ALU’s 365 of Untrieds – Essie Smooth Sailing from the Braziliant Summer 2011 Collection
365 of Untrieds is my personal challenge to weed through the polishes in the ALU stash that I’ve been wanting to try but just haven’t gotten around to.
This past weekend I have been at my favorite Ohio destination, Put-In-Bay on South Bass Island in Lake Erie. Every year my friends from my Cedar Point days rent a house for a long weekend to reminisce about the good old days (wow do I sound old) and create new memories. This is our tenth year taking this trip and it just keeps getting better. Choosing a nail polish to wear for a whole weekend is a challenge as I’m not used to committing to a color for an extended period of time. However, I’ve been tempted by Essie Smooth Sailing from the summer Braziliant collection ever since it arrived. After fawning over Coat Azure, I was curious to see if this new blue hue could live up to the same standard. |

365 of Untrieds is my personal challenge to weed through the polishes in the ALU stash that I’ve been wanting to try but just haven’t gotten around to.
I’ve briefly mentioned in past blog posts that I was in a sorority in college, Alpha Delta Pi. If you aren’t familiar with the sorority system, like a US state, there are a lot of official symbols for sororities. Official flower (woodland violet), mascot (lion), symbol (diamond), open motto (We live for each other), philanthropy (Ronald McDonald House) and colors (azure blue and white). Now for the past couple years I have found myself yawning over the spring collections from Essie. Soft shades just aren’t my bag and sheers make my nails look terrible. So when I stumbled across Essie Coat Azure from the French Affair collection, I was pleasantly surprised. While I haven’t been actively seeking out a nail polish version of my sorority’s color, finding one has always been on my wish list. |

I hope all my US readers are enjoying their Memorial Day weekend. I just want to give a quick shout-out to all the troops who serve every day to protect us. It is an amazing selfless act to serve your country and I thank you for that. ALU’s 365 of Untrieds – OPI Cool in the Pool
365 of Untrieds is my personal challenge to weed through the polishes in the ALU stash that I’ve been wanting to try but just haven’t gotten around to.
There used to be a time, before nail polish blogs and before the vultures on eBay realized they could stalk message boards to learn which polishes are hard-to-find, when you could score some really great treasures online for a decent price. One of those scores was when I bid on the entire OPI Summer Splash collection from Summer 2004 and got it for a song. I was only after Pooltime Lime but if I could get the whole set for next to nothing, why not? OPI Cool in the Pool is one of the polishes from that collection and I feel like I’ve been hanging on to it because it is rare, not because I love it, which just sounds greedy. I haven’t cracked open the bottle until now because deep down inside I know it’s probably not for me. Let’s see if I was right. |
Current Obsession – Zoya Crystal Nail Polish
I’ve been experiencing a major nail polish depression of late. I’m having issues finding polishes that truly thrill me to my core. It’s not that I’m not enjoying polish or anything but I haven’t had too many OH.MY.GOD. moments this fall.
I don’t know what it is but I feel like everything “new” that comes out is something I’ve seen before. That is until I put Zoya Crystal on my nails. I didn’t just have an OMG moment. More like an OMFG IT’S BEAUTIFUL moment. I’m so smitten with the color I’ve worn it three, THREE, times. Once for eight days and it still looked fab! And if that’s not telling of my adoration, I don’t know what is. Crystal is the star of the Zoya Flame collection for Winter 2010 and if you keep reading, you’ll see why. |
