ALU’s 365 of Untrieds – RGB Cosmetics Dove

rgb dove nail polish bottle 365 untried rgb cosmetics Welcome to the launch of 365 of Untrieds my year long nail polish challenge. I’ve been inspired by one of my favorite bloggers, Melissa from The Daily Nail to take on the task of a daily blog project.  365 of Untrieds is just as the name implies, a series about all the polishes in the ALU stash that I’ve been wanting to try but just haven’t gotten around to.

Whether it’s something I’ve been meaning to wear but haven’t made time for, a polish I bought on a whim and forgot about or a color from a collection that I didn’t have the time to review, this will be my way of getting through my overwhelming stack of untested polishes to help me find new loves and weed out unnecessary bulk.

I’m kicking off the challenge with a nail polish from RGB Cosmetics that has been sitting on my desk for way too long.  It’s a shade I was so excited to try when it arrived in the mail but I kept pushing off in favor of other colors.  So to stop it from mocking me on a daily basis, I give you RGB Dove.

Getting Minx’d by Celebrity Manicurist Lisa Logan at America’s Beauty Show 2011

One of the best parts of attending a trade show like America’s Beauty Show is all the great people you meet. Like at the Minx booth, I had the pleasure of meeting Minx Master’s Naja Green and Lisa Logan. Naja is a LA-based Celebrity Manicurist and co-host of Nail Talk Radio whose clients include Lady Gaga and Lisa is a NYC-based Celebrity Manicurist who has an amazing roster of clients and editorial work including tending to the digits of Ms. Beyonce Knowles.

Lisa recently launched her own line of uniques designs for Minx including a pattern called Daybreak that is intended to be worn with the UV gel polishes that are so hot right now.  When I initially stopped by the booth I was disappointed that I wouldn’t be able to try any of the patterns without covering up my Shellac so I was thrilled to learn that Lisa created Daybreak for that very reason.  The Minx appliqué starts off clear at the base with holographic dots that get closer together near the free edge of the nail.

See Lisa apply Daybreak to my nails and check out the final look in the short video below.

Minx are a professional product. To locate a salon near you offering Minx, visit MinxNails.com. Prices vary by location and pattern so call first to verify the cost and design availability.

Thoughts on my Daybreak Minx nails? How many of you have tried Minx? Which type of nail appliqués do you prefer? Minx or drugstore versions (Sally Hansen, Incoco, Nail Fraud, etc)?

Disclosure: Minx nail appliqués were applied gratis by Lisa Logan for Minx. For more info view my Disclosure Policy.

My St. Paddy’s Day Emerald Green Shellac Attack

This past weekend I visited Chicago to check out America’s Beauty Show, one of the largest professional beauty trade shows in the US. The show just happened to coincide with Chicago’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade and the Chicago River being dyed green.  Talk about perfect timing for a green polish fanatic, no?

I arrived in Chicago on Saturday wearing China Glaze Starboard, a pretty rad St. Paddy’s Day color, but the following day I had an appointment to get Shellac’d at the CND Suite at the ABS show.  While I was happy to give Shellac another run, I was sad that I wouldn’t be rocking a fabulous green come today.

Thankfully CND Education Ambassador Kris Kiss came to my nail rescue applying a layering combination of Shellac colors that fulfilled all my green dreams.  Using Shellac Black Pool and Shellac Iced Coral she created an eye-popping green that does this most festive holiday justice.

OPI Texas Collection for Spring/Summer 2011 – Creme & Shimmer Swatches, Review & Comparisons

opi texas collection for spring 2011 The stars at night are big and bright
Deep in the heart of Texas

~Deep in the Heart of Texas lyrics by June Hershey

Tell me you can hear those lyrics and NOT clap your hands. Go ahead, tell me! This Spring, OPI is venturing down south to the Lone Star state of Texas. In the past OPI has focused on areas within the US (Painted Desert, New England) or specific cities (New York City, Chicago) but this is the first time I can remember where and entire state has been the inspiration for a collection.

The OPI Texas Collection for Spring/Summer 2011 is standard in that it consists of twelve polishes but for the first time there is a definitive dividing line between each set of six shades.  OPI is introducing their take on the beloved jelly texture with six “sorbet” style polishes; semi-sheer colors with a lucite look.  Before we tackle the sorbet lacquers let’s examine the creme & shimmer polishes.

MAC Wonder Woman Obey Me & Spirit of Truth Swatches, Review & Nail Art?

The recently launched MAC Wonder Woman collection brought out the little girl and “nail artist” in me.  That’s right Fanatics, you didn’t misread the title, I said “nail artist.”  You can check my forehead for a fever all you like but I’m perfectly healthy AND loving my Wonder Woman themed foray into the nail art.I’m sure my fellow Gen-Xers will happily stroll down memory lane with me to the days of Wonder Woman Underoos and raven haired beauty, Lynda Carter, flying into living rooms nationwide in her invisible airplane.  At just four years old my Wonder Woman doll was my most prized possession next to my Donny Osmond doll, purple socks and all, of course.  Way before my Barbie obsession took hold, I was imagining myself lassoing evildoers to confess their crimes.

The MAC Wonder Woman collection includes two new Nail Lacquers in WW’s signature colors; red (Obey Me) and blue (Spirit of Truth).  As easy as it would be for me to just wear the colors as a mani/pedi combo or a multi-colored manicure I decided to take it one step further, inspired by one of my fave nail art lovers, Nail Art Junkie’s Keri B.
