Oscar Nail Watch 2010 – Sandy Powell

Even though she came off a bit smug when she accepted her award, Costume Designer Sandy Powell caught my attention with those teal green talons.  They totally threw me for a loop when she appeared on screen.  Yay for green polish at the Oscars.  Maybe she’ll help influence some celebs to take that risk.  Hey, I can hope right?

I thought the color paired really well with her outfit even though I don’t love the dress.  And her nail length is too long for my taste but I can’t hate on a girl that loves green polish.

What color would you use to recreate Sandy’s look? I’m thinking either Nubar Earth or Conserve from the Going Green collection might work. What say you?

Playing With The Queen of Hearts

queen-of-hearts-alice-wonderland-franken-opi It’s time for another frankenpolish inspired by the OPI Alice In Wonderland collection.  I was so happy with how my Cheshire Cat franken turned out that I just had to try to make my idea of a white polish with red glitter come to life.

With the Queen of Hearts as my muse, I mixed up what I’m calling “Playing With The Queen of Hearts”.  The song was running through my head while I was mixing/applying it so it seemed a perfect fit.  Though I’m not sure I’m entirely in love with the color so I’d love your thoughts.  Check it out after the jump!

Attention NYC Fanatics, It’s Nails Night Out

By on October 6, 2009

The makeup girls have The Makeup Show. The fragrance girls have Sniffapalooza. So where does that leave us nail girls? Until now, out in the cold. But thanks to the efforts of MUA Nail Board member Tamara Odom (Speakeasy1908 on MUA) we now have Nails Night Out NYC!

I know a lot of us don’t live in NYC but those of you who do should NOT miss this event. On October 24 nail fanatics from the NYC area will meet up for dinner, drinks, a polish swap and goodie bags that will make the $30 ticket more than worth the cost of admission.

Nails Night Out NYC! has been made possible thanks to brands like…
Barielle, Nailtini, Rescue Beauty Lounge, Priti NYC, Color Club Nail Polish/Forsythe Cosmetic Group, 8ty8beauty.com, Jesse’s Girl Cosmetics, Nailtini, OC Nail Art and PeaceKeeper Cause-Metics.

AND

As if that isn’t enough, you may also get the chance to meet Ji Baek (Founder, Rescue Beauty Lounge), Michelle Olson (Founder, Nailtini), and Kathleen Highland (Owner, OC Nail Art) who are all expected to attend.

For more information and to get on the event mailing list, email Nails Night Out NYC! organizer Tamara at muaspeakeasy@gmail.com.

RBL Mismas Red Carpet Sighting

Here’s a fun story to share. My signature shade, Rescue Beauty Lounge Mismas, has hit the red carpet. It appeared on the tips of one of US Weekly’s 25 Most Stylish New Yorkers, Lancome VP of Public Relations Kerry Diamond. I was thrilled to see her wearing my color at such a cool event.

You see, Kerry visited Rescue for a pre-NYFW mani/pedi and even though she chose a nude polish, a bottle of Mismas went home with her. So you can imagine my surprise when I showed up backstage at the Chris Benz show to find her wearing my shade.

Though I was so brain-fried by Day 5 of Fashion Week that I didn’t even recognize my own polish. Check out my brilliant observational skills.

Kerry holds up her hand to show off her manicure
Me: Oh is that the show color?
Kerry: No, it’s you!
This is the moment where a forehead slap seems apropos.

The saddest part, it’s not the first time this scenario played out that week. My friend Marina from Makeup Loves Me was wearing Barielle Falling Star and I grabbed her hand to ask what she was on her nails. In my defense she told me earlier in the week that she ordered the wrong color from Barielle so I didn’t know she owned it yet. Then again maybe I need new contacts!
