Teen Choice Awards host Katy Perry is anything but shy when it comes to adorning her nails. So when I read that BellaSugar thought she was wearing a holographic nail polish I just had to find out more. After all, she wore a holographic Milani to an awards show last year and who could forget those blinding, blinged out nails she wore to the MTV VMAs.
Turns out Celebrity Manicurist Kimmie Kyees worked with Katy and she wasn’t wearing a holo or even a polish. Kimmie used new gel polish product, Gelish by Nail Harmony. The color, June Bride, is a glittery pale pink and according to Kimmie, “she [Katy] loved it!”
Gelish is a salon-only service, similar to Shellac, only it seems to have a lot more colors in the “me” range. They have a link for a Salon Locator on the brand website but it is under construction. I spotted their booth at Cosmoprof but I didn’t have a chance to stop and check it out. Hopefully I’ll be able to find a salon in Cleveland to try it out for myself.
Have any of you seen Gelish in your area? Who’s tried it? What do you think of Katy’s nails from last night’s show?

Just when you thought gray nail polish was over, Lady Gaga makes it hot again on the cover of September’s Vanity Fair. For the past few days I’ve been getting emails and tweets from readers and fellow bloggers all wondering what that mystery gray polish is on Gaga’s nails.
Never fear, your trusty nail sleuth is here. I love a challenge and I’m such a pop culture fiend that researching this sort of thing is fun for me. Though what’s funny is I actually had a gut reaction when I saw this cover and, as it turns out, the first email I sent turned out to be the right one.
So what famous manicurist to the stars polished Lady Gaga’s nails to perfection? And what color did she use? Make a guess before you click to find out. |

Rather than give any more attention to that other redhead whose nails have been making headlines I’d rather talk about the stunning Christina Hendricks who is gracing the cover of this month’s LA Times Magazine. Is anyone else counting down the days until the return of Mrs. Harris née Holloway and the rest of the Mad Men crew? Only a a few more weeks!
I just love Christina Hendricks and how comfortable she is with her gorgeous, real shape. To match pair with her retro look Green Celebrity Nail Stylist Jenna Hipp chose a polish from the China Glaze Retro Diva collection, Stella. Very apropos, no? The rich burgundy shimmer looks a lot more scarlet on camera but it’s the perfect accent to her auburn locks and moss colored chapeau. Who says redheads can’t wear red?
To ensure a flawless look, Jenna used Kiss Press-On Nails with Nail Esque Press-on Adhesive Tabs that use 3M technology to keep your tips in place. I must admit that after my Dashing Diva press-on experience I’m curious about whether the tabs will help them stay on longer.
Anyone tried the Nail Esque tabs or something similar? What was your experience in terms of wear time?

When Katy Perry TwitPic’d her nails late night on Saturday, I knew Celebrity Manicurist Kimmie Kyees had to be the brains behind this look. Sure enough, I check my inbox to find that Kimmie had done Katy’s nails for the Nickelodeon Kid’s Choice Awards.
For Katy’s nails, Kimmie created custom tips using Milani Hi-Res from the 3D Holographic collection. She randomly placed square, round and heart shaped nail gems in a rainbow of colors for a fun and funky look. One look at Katy’s dress and you can see how the stones played into the overall look. You can never accuse Katy of being afraid to “go there” with her look. |

What do you think of Katy’s nails? Would you ever wear this in real life? Where?
A few days ago Fanatic Ally contacted me asking about Nina Dobrev’s nails in the April edition of Seventeen Magazine. Since I’m not a subscriber (I’m a little beyond Seventeen’s demo) I haven’t seen the issue but I was able to find some pics online. Needless to say, I pleasantly surprised to see a cover girl sporting GREEN nails!
The reason for Ally’s email is that in the magazine, you can clearly see that Nina’s nails were covered with chunky, random glitter yet the magazine recommended OPI Bling Dynasty to get the look. Any of you who own Bling Dynasty know that it’s a shimmering, opaque micro-glitter. So how was Nina’s look achieved?
Fortunately my pal Celebrity Manicurist Elle was the woman responsible for Nina’s nail look so I gave her a ring to get the scoop. Find out what she used after the jump! |
