“Michelle Mismas in the Imelda Marcos of nail polish.”
I’ve honestly never thought of myself that way but it’s the funny and flattering description Susan Campos of Beauty Undercover chose for her article… The Varnished Truth. It’s a quick and entertaining read and I hope you’ll check it out.
Thanks Susan for wanting to feature me!
In spite of all the vicious downtime ALU has been experiencing as of late (it will be over soon, I promise!) today is truly fantabulous. Why? Because as of today, I am a published writer. My first article for UK nail magazine Scratch hit stands and I’m beyond thrilled.
I’m sure you remember the lace nail trend I spoke about a while back. The concept created by my friend Celebrity Manicurist Elle. Well Scratch chose Elle’s work for their December cover and asked me to write the accompanying cover story. So cool, right?
You see, the lace nails were partially inspired by the Barielle All Lacquered Up collection. During a shoot to promote the collection, Elle created some amazing fashion-forward looks that were an offshoot of concepts from the collection. Read more about it and see my first print article, after the jump! |

That’s right, it’s me. Sorry for the shameless self-promotion Fanatics. I can’t help but giddy over seeing my name in print and sharing it with you. November’s Glamour is already on stands, even though it’s barely October, and yours truly is quoted on Page 72.
My girl Andrea Lustig, Glamour’s Q&A Queen, asked me about my fave alternatives to the traditional, dark fall polish shades. Not to brag but I’m naturally in love with Barielle Slate of Affairs from the All Lacquered Up collection I created with Elle. Andrea also mentions her current love for the ombre/gradation look I showed you. Great minds, ha!
Check out the article below! |
So Fanatics, what are your favorite alternatives to dark polish for fall? Have any of you tried the ombre manicure yet? I saw a gorgeous version by Nihrida on MUA using China Glaze Bermuda Breakaway and Agent Lavender.
Fanatics, how excited am I to see the color I created with RBL’s Ji Baek in the pages of Allure? As if having my own signature color wasn’t enough, the editors at Allure chose it as one of their favorites for the season. Color me on cloud nine!
Of course it took me forever and a day to get my hands on the issue. I just happened to change my delivery address this month and all my local drugstores and grocery stores were late in putting it up. Doesn’t that just figure? So a huge thanks goes out to Diane from The Beauty Alchemist for alerting me to the feature and all the other bloggers and readers for their emails and tweets of congratulations. Love you all! |
Allure’s Polish Picks (click links to see my swatches) CND Desert Suede, OPI Barefoot in Barcelona, MAC For Fun, RBL Mismas, RGB Steel, YSL Stormy Grey.
The funny thing is, I own all these polishes so I guess I’m all set for Fall. How many do you have?
Talk about ending the week on a high note. After a week of major back pain I wake this morning to find that I’m in this month’s WWD Beauty Biz!!!
WWD is the leading trade publication for the Fashion and Beauty Retail industry. Once a month they publish an issue dedicated to what’s happening in the beauty world. A couple months ago one of their writers, Rachel Brown, interviewed me about my collaboration with Barielle and my Rescue Beauty Lounge shade and here’s the final result. Can you even?? I’m over the moon! |

The relationship between beauty brands and bloggers is getting even cozier. Barielle has collaborated with Michelle Mismas, an accountant from Cleveland, on a fall nail polish collection named for her blog, All Lacquered Up. Working with Barielle creative director Elle Gerstein, Mismas helped translate colors from the runway into lacquers that would resonate with her polish enthusiast fan base—a slate blue Reem Acra dress was the inspiration for the grayish blue Slate of Affairs, for example.
For Ji Baek’s fall collection, the Rescue Beauty Lounge founder teamed up with the bloggers behind Scrangie on a purple with green shimmer, Polish Addict on a grayish dark green and All Lacquered Up on a deep purple. “They really wanted something they can’t have,†says Baek. “It shows you what is missing in the market.†Lest the bloggers get carried away, Gerstein cautions that their power only goes so far. “The celebrity thing is much bigger,†she stresses. —RACHEL BROWN
