Orly Plastix Satin Finish Nail Polish Swatches & Review

orly plastix collection fall 2010 Orly Plastix Satin Finish Nail Polish Swatches & Review“Gretchen, stop trying to make FETCH happen! It’s not going to happen!” – Regina George leader of “The Plastics” in Mean Girls.

For the past year now nail polish brands have been trying to “make fetch happen” with a seemingly never ending barrage of matte nail polishes.  My lazy, always-running-late self loves mattes for their quick dry time and I know I’m not alone but the detractors seem to be in the majority.  I get it.  The wear issues and flat wall paint finish aren’t exactly selling points and most certainly deal breakers for a lot of you.

Enter Orly’s twist on the game, the Plastix Collection, a set of four satin lacquers.  Like their Nails For Males and now discontinued Matte Top Coat these polishes dry with a semi-gloss “plastic” finish.  This isn’t the first time we’ve seen this type of finish but it hasn’t come in fun colors until now.  The Fall runways featured lots of satin nails as well which is why I’m declaring Satin is the new Matte.

OPI Summer Flutter Collection Swatches & Review

opi summer flutter collection 2010 bottles OPI Summer Flutter Collection Swatches & ReviewOPI’s butterfly themed Summer Flutter collection is their second summer release.  For some reason thinking about flutterbys, as I like to call them, causes that ridiculous Butterfly song from Crazy Town to pop into my head.  Shoot me now, ha!

I actually started looking at pics of butterflies online to get something sweeter in mind as I played with the polishes.  That was especially necessary as I only have seen Monarchs in my neck of the woods. Nothing nearly as colorful as this collection.  With two foil sparklers, a shimmer flecked pink and a creamy orange, the Summer Flutter collection is perfect for those of you on creme overload.

Zoya Flash Collection Swatches & Review

zoya flash collection swatches summer 2010 bottles 1 Zoya Flash Collection Swatches & ReviewWho can take a rainbow, wrap it in a sigh
Soak it in the sun and make a groovy lemon pie
The Candy Man, the Candy Man can
The Candy Man can ’cause he mixes it with love and makes the world taste good

~Candy Man by Sammy Davis Jr.

Flash, the second summer collection from Zoya is a set of six glossy cremes that feel very candy-ish.  Like a companion set to one of my fave Zoya collections, Candy, from a few summers ago.  Couldn’t you just see all those shades as big glossy jawbreakers in a candy machine?  Friendly jawbreakers though, not the kind Rose McGowan shoves down your throat as a deadly joke.  Or how about giant lollipops along the wall of Dylan’s Candy Bar?

Come check out the sugar coated goodness of Dana, Jancyn, Jolene, Maura, Perrie and Robyn after the jump!

China Glaze Poolside Collection Swatches & Review

china glaze poolside swatches summer 2010 China Glaze Poolside Collection Swatches & ReviewI have a love/hate relationship with brights and neons. I LOVE wearing them in the summer but I HATE photographing them. They are just so hard to capture. Neons just never translate on screen so it’s really hard for me to show you what you’re getting.

Regardless, I took the new China Glaze Poolside collection for a spin. Poolside consists of six bold, in-your-face neons that are bound to attract attention.  From the shimmery blue Towel Boy Toy to the hi-lighter yellow of Yellow Polka Dot Bikini, if you want to make a bold color nail statement, this collection has it.  Check out my swatches after the jump!

OPI Holiday Wishes Collection Swatches & Review

opi holiday wishes 2009 winter nail polish collection OPI Holiday Wishes Collection Swatches & ReviewIs it just me or does OPI reserve their most interesting nail polish shades for the holiday season? 2003′s Holiday On Broadway brought us the beloved La Boheme. 2006′s Kick Up Your Heels collection included a slew of home run hitters. I Get A Kick Out of Gold and Opening Night Champagne are still faves of both my mom and I and we RARELY agree. Not to mention the range of winners from Holiday In Toyland and Holiday in Hollywood. On that note, this year’s Holiday Wishes collection is doing its predecessors proud.

I was happy to see a nod to the “flakies” trend in this collection. Flakies, a nickname for irregularly shaped glitter particles, have been popular in the nail fanatic community for some time now. It’s nice to see mainstream brands, like OPI, acknowledging that. Check out Holiday Wishes after the jump!
