Nailbox Trendbox Pre-Fall 2014

The next edition of the Nailbox Trendbox is out and, for Pre-Fall 2014, my friend Sarah from Chalkboard Nails is the curator. You may remember that I curated the first Nailbox TrendBox, a quarterly nail polish subscription service that delivers $65 worth of product for only $35.

Sarah has a keen eye for color and her choices are so dead on for this time of year where one day calls for a sundress and flip flops and the next you’re pulling out chunky knits and boots.

With four nail polish shades to transition you from summer to fall, the Pre-Fall 2014 Trendbox also includes a matte top coat, making the collection even more versatile.

Sarah’s four, transitional color choices include punchy summer brights, a chic neutral, a fall-ready metallic and a matte top coat, something Sarah uses a lot in her nail art designs.

Each box includes: NCLA Santa Monica Shore Thing, Priti NYC Chrysanthos, Orly Hot Tropics, LVX Cashmere and Essie Matte About You. As an added bonus, Nailbox has included a set of NCLA Aly En Vogue Nail Wraps.

Nailbox TrendBox Nail Polishes

LVX Cashmere is a beige-y creme. It’s got a pink/nude/grey vibe that isn’t something I would normally wear but I know how much Sarah loves this type of shade so it’s a perfect choice. It’s packed with pigment and feels a bit thick when you apply it but it levels out so nicely and only requires two coats.

NCLA Santa Monica Shore Thing is an aqua creme with a hint of mint. It’s vibrant and beach with an excellent formula that gives full coverage in two coats.

Orly Hot Tropics is a hot, bright fuchsia packed with golden flecks. It has a jelly-ish feel which makes application a breeze. Now because I used very thin coats, I needed three layers but if you’re more heavy handed, you can get away with two.

Because of the high sparkle factor, I knew it would look fab matte. Like the glitter is trapped behind frosted glass.

Priti NYC Chrysanthos is a champagne gold foil that has a heavy amount of silver intermixed to keep it from being too warm. Because it’s a foil, you won’t have brush stroke issues and thanks to the high pigmentation, you only need two coats.

Fun fact: When Sarah told me she was including this shade, I dogged it based on the one swatch I could find online. However, Sarah was right on, it is a gorgeous gold. Much better in person.

And with Essie Matte About You, it takes on a brushed appearance.

Pre-Fall 2014 TrendBox Nail Art

It’s been a while since I’ve worn Saran Wrap Nail Art and when I saw Santa Monica Shore Thing and Chrysanthos, I knew they would work well for that technique. Mattified, its reminiscent of 60s patterned wallpaper.

You can see it without the matte top coat on the Nailbox Instagram account.

The Nailbox Pre-Fall 2014 TrendBox is available now for $35 at Nailbox.co. You can also purchase a year subscription for $126. Boxes are curated by nail bloggers and trendsetters.

What do you think of Sarah’s selections? Will you pick up a TrendBox? Are you a fan of subscription boxes? Which ones do you love/hate?

  1. Thanks for the great review, Michelle! Love your nail art and glad you ended up liking the gold. :)

  2. Phyrra says:

I LOVE that Orly (and own it)! I also adore that NCLA and need it.

  3. Katy says:

Are these full size bottles of polish?

  4. Lisa N. says:

Some really nice colors in this box.

  5. Abbi says:

Nail boxes are such a fun concept; it’s like having a stylist for your hands. But I typically like most–not all–of the product so I would be missing out on the value. People who ate every section of their Lunchables would love these.

  6. I just bought a subscription yesterday! I’ve never subscribed to ANY beauty box before. It’s always seemed like too much of a gamble to me. But after your selections last time, and Sarah’s with this box, I knew it would be worth my money.

  7. lara says:

Love it! I wasn’t sold until I saw the nail art but it reminds me of old oxidized copper vases…so cool!

  8. deerstop says:

    Cashmere! <3 <3 <3

  9. marianne stehman says:

love all nail polish have a big collection of everything

  10. Monica says:

Well….there goes some more money out the door, LOL!! I like the trendbox idea. After seeing what was in yours and now this one I”m SOLD!!! Will have to subscribe. I don’t usually venture out of my comfort zone (mainly own Butter London, some OPI and a couple of Jin Soon) but not really anything outside the same colors so this would be a great way to try new colors, textures and just be adventurous! Its a great deal for full size products too!
    Love your blog!

  11. Allie says:

Do you know what happened to this business? I paid for a yearly subscription and only got 2 boxes, the last of which was in August. Their site hasn’t been updated with a new box, and their FB hasn’t been updated in months. They won’t respond to my contact messages either…

    • Hi Allie! I sent you an email message as well but in case it goes to spam or someone else comes here looking for info…

I honestly don’t know what happened with Nailbox. I was in contact with owner at the end of last year and was told a holiday box was coming but that time has obviously passed. It’s unfortunate that they have not responded to your messages. It is my recommendation that you, and anyone else who purchased an annual subscription, dispute the charge with your credit card company. Hopefully you all can get your money back. The situation is so disappointing.

  12. Jennifer O says:

I’m having the same problem Allie. I feel ripped off. Well, I was ripped off! They should have refunded the unused half of the subscriptions. They ignore my messages too. Because the charge was made over a year ago, its doubtful I can dispute it. Criminals.
