Lancôme Pop Petrol Swatches, Review & GIVEAWAY
Fanatics, take a second and glare at the bottle of green Lancôme gorgeousness on the left. That’s right, I said glare! Why? Because for some inexplicable reason Lancôme has decided to NOT release Pop Petrol from the Spring Ô My Rose collection in the US.
You see, I got all sorts of giddy when I saw promo pics of this collection popping up on beauty blogs left and right. I raced to get more details from the reps at Lancôme only to find out that Pop Petrol would not grace us with its presence. Oh the humanity! So, you lucky, lucky European Fanatics, this time you win! However, thanks to my friends at Lancôme I not only have the chance to tease share this baby’s beauty with you, I am able to send a bottle of Pop Petrol to live with one lucky Fanatic. Find out more after the jump! |
Pop Petrol (aka Deep Water Green) is a mysterious lass. A murky, shimmery shade of blue-green, this deep, luscious lacquer has a chameleon-like appearance. When I first pulled it from the box I was a tad disappointed. Where was the vivid green from the teaser pics? It looked like a steely teal blue. It’s not until applied that you really appreciate the color. In warmer indirect lighting (a sunny day) you really see the forest green come alive. Like a greener Lippmann Don’t Tell Mama.

But in cool (shade) lighting the teal takes the stage with a bit of charcoal undertones. In this light I actually thought it might be a dupe for the discontinued CoverGirl NailSlicks Mystic Peacock but no dice. btw, CoverGirl BRING THAT BACK!

Under artificial light, you see that deep jewel-toned emerald the promo pics promised.

The application of Pop Petrol is perfection. The wide flat brush is a little too rigid for my taste but the formula glides on with ease, covering the nail in two thin coats.
Like I said above, Pop Petrol is only available overseas. So swappers, it’s time to start working your European connections.
Or just enter my giveaway. One lucky winner will receive a bottle of Pop Petrol to call your own. You have from now until Sunday January 17th at 11:55pm EST to enter. One entry per person.

oh that is a gorgeous color!
Wow – what an amazing color – I can’t believe they’re NOT releasing it here!!! Why would they do that to us???? But thanks for offering the giveaway – I entered!
Just gorgeous. The undertones are amazing! Yet another green I MUST have.
This is seriously gorgeous! God, I love green polishes.
I wish Lancôme wouldn’t test on animals
I’m in Europe, it would’ve been easy for me to get it, but I just won’t buy anything from them.
I am not sure where you get your info, but none of the L’Oreal companies test on animals any longer. They haven’t since 1989. Just go to their website, click on contact us, product support, and enter the question “Do you test on animals”. My Mimaw has been using Lancome for years and she doesn’t seem to be like the kind to use animal tested products, so it worried me when I read your post. Rest assured, you can indulge in this little bit of Lancome heaven.
The L’Oreal page you quote goes on to say that they use ingredients tested on animals. The reason is because “new chemical ingredients must be tested on animals.” What a cop-out. Instead of flooding our bodies and environment with harmful new ingredients that “must” be tested on animals, why not do the right thing and just freaking stop it? Use companies like this and sell your souls.
Janie says it all. They do believe some ingredients must be tested on animals, so no, I won’t buy from them until that stops.
There are plenty of other companies that do not test on animals and are cruelty free, so I’ll stick to them. I just can’t support a company that thinks that animal testing is okay… I just can’t feel pretty, confident or happy by using products that have made suffered innocent creatures!
So many beautiful colors in one bottle! As for the contest, you’re a varnish saint! Oh, and don’t let it influence you or anything but today *is* my birthday.
Ohhh I love this type of color! Deep, blue-green & absolutely gorgeous!
Really, Lancome? Really?!?!
Ugh… I want.
What do I think? WHAT DO I THINK!? We Americans lost out on this one.
I love dark polish!
I’m all about jeweled tones and the color green. I’m wearing and loving midnight glam. Need a green stay!
Awww I live in Europe. I might have to buy it!
US residents only? *CRY* Us poor Canadian fanatics… ah well, pretty color
Oh my gosh! Is this bad news that it won’t be coming to the US or good news that this color exists??? I guess it’s time to give one to our overseas buddies. They seem to have a hard time finding a lot of the lovelies I covet.
When I saw Pop Petrol months ago, I immediately penciled the release date in my planner (to be fair, that’s really why I bought the planner in the first place). Then came the news that it wouldn’t be released in the US. (Why, oh, why!) So sad. But your swatches make me happy
Wow, that is very pretty. The first picture reminded me of Sephora’s Absinthe Makes the Heart, but I don’t think that was very blue at all!
Awesome looking color but how sad that it won’t be available here
ditto sideral
It’s beautiful!
It’s a beautiful color and I love that it can vary so widely by lighting.
Unfortunately, it’s a bit too dark (too charcoal), and I think the subtle differences would be lost on my skintone (kinda like how MACs Beyond Jealous went black on me).
I’m not the biggest green person around but this colour has me speechless! It’s just *perfect*…dark and moody but still extremely elegant….ooooo….
Oooh, so pretty! Too bad it isn’t available here- I love green!! thanks for the giveaway though. I am keeping my fingers crossed!
As someone who is still in love with darks and “just shy of black” shades ranging from light my sapphire to essie’s Wicked, I would LOVE to add this to my arsenal!!!
Stunning. What a shame it won’t be released here. Can you even imagine what it will go for on Evil Bay?
Oh, this color is perfect! I love it!
‘scuse me while I swoon. How I long to see tiny, deep dream pools of it on my tips…oh, yeah, we don’t win it by writing, do we? Anyway, I have to figure out how to get some.
And, Michelle, how does anyone in North America have nice cuticles after the weather this past week? This is the first day of 2010 that Louisville has seen temps above freezing. No way I would send a picture of mannequin hands right now. Your fingers are a miracle.
Such a lovely color. I’m starting my nail polish collect and the more shades of green I see, the more I love.
OH it’s this gorgeous blackened green jewel LOVE love love. i’ve been looking for this kind of green for a WHILE. thanks for the giveaway! i’m hoping xD
Very Pretty color!
Not offering in the US? That’s just wrong! Or just not smart. UGH!
Thanks so much for sharing with us!!
Gorgeous! Liquified child of an Onyx and Emerald
It is absolutely gorgeous!
Love it! Can’t get enough of deep greens. I was expecting a brighter green but it’s pretty cool that it has that charcoal grey tone to it.

It’s beautiful!
It’s available in Canada too!
Looks lovely! Any polishes that have multiple appearances fascinate me. Love the giveaway idea too, how nice of you!
arg i want.
My inner lemming has awoken. I wonder if this is a dupe to the infamous OPI’s Jasper Jade?
i totally put in the wrong email address by accident. I have like 20 of them.
Maggie, email me with the email address you entered and what the correct one should be and I’ll fix your entry.
Wowww that is a beautiful color. I’m not a big green person, but I love it.
Lancome! Whaadaya thinkin’? Release this here! Geeze!
It is sooooo cool that you have these kinds of connections. I am so envious! I would love to win this color
It’s beautiful!!!
Oh, my word. This color is absolute perfection.
I absolutely love that color!
Wow. A beautiful color. Good thing I’m headed to Europe soon! Adding this to my shopping list right now.
I’ve been stalking this color for months since seeing it in a magazine I was studying for a shoot.
I’ll admit, I am GREEN with envy!
I must have this color, I simply must…..
I really love the colour
My first thought was wow thats just like L’oreal’s resist and shine titanium No 736 from the “blacks” collection – then I read the comment about Lancome being a L’oreal company and I wondered just how different these two were, will be doing some investigative work this weekend if the Lancome polish is out in the UK already. But if you cant get the Lancome in the States the L’oreal 736 would be well worth a look.
Update. Just spotted this on the Lancome counter in Huddersfield and luckily was wearing the L’oreal 736, so peeled off a nail – in the interest of research you understand! – and had a swipe of the Lancome. Literally nothing in it shade wise, exact dupe, guessing brush and application of the Lancome are much better though. Hope this helps!
Very pretty. Europe got quite a bit more in that collection that didn’t make it over here…sigh. Oh well.
I don’t really understand why you complain about Lancôme’s decision not to sell this polish in US: you own already it as they sent it to you. And you own it before it is launched…
Because Valerie, I would like it to be available to everyone. I’m fortunate that Lancome was able to send me a bottle and one to give away but I’d LOVE for everyone who wants a bottle to be able to buy one.
