Hey kids! In case you didn’t know, MAC‘s newest collection Fafi hits shelves today. A collaboration with French graffiti artist Fafi, this collection is a girly girl’s dream come true. And the packaging is to die for.

I’m heading down to my freestanding MAC today to check out the collection and play with the new nail lacquers.

Boom – Rich eggplant with purple pearl

Anyone else planning to check out Fafi? Who’s already ordered from the MAC website?

NY Fashion Week Nail Watch – Venexiana

Kiss Nails invited me to go backstage at the Venexiana show to see the customized tips they created specifically for the designer. And even though I was supposed to be concentrating on the tips, I couldn’t help but find the models’ cupie doll hairstyles simply adorable. I would love to have a doll that resembles either of these beauties. On to the nails… Kiss custom designed a french manicure nail with a crystal accent at the tip. The nails came pre-glued for easy application. A quick soak in acetone helps them peel right off. No damage, no mess.I then snuck into the standing area to take in the show and see the nails hit the runway accenting a luxe collection of fux, satin, lame and metallic fabrics. I was sent home with a set of the tips to try for myself. They were easy to press on and the size range was varied enough that I could find a good fit. My main issue is with the length and brightness of the white tip. You girls know how I feel about bright white french manis (not a fan!). Also, since I keep my nails pretty short I felt somewhat paralyzed from functioning properly. However, they were easy to remove and I like that the design included the lunula to make the nail look more natural. And I’ve been told that the regular Kiss nail tips can be filed down to a more comfortable length.
What do you all think? Anyone a fan of DIY nail kits?

NY Fashion Week Nail Watch – Tracy Reese

For Fall 2008, designer Tracy Reese was inspired by nature and weather. To bring that power, the forces of nature, to her models she pulled together an expert beauty team including the team at Sally Hansen, makeup artist Mally Roncal and hair stylist Edris Nicholls.

In her fifth collaboration with the Sally Hansen Salon Line, Reese created a collection of ten lacquers to be released next fall. The hot pink shimmer, Torrid Bloom, was used to create the “Veiled Nail” effect on the models’ nails. The Veiled Nail is a technique designed by Tracy where the lacquer is stretched from the base of the nail to the tip going from opaque to sheer. Think of it as watercolor for nails.

The look is achieved by applying a base of Age Correct Growth Treatment, a milky pink, then painting half the nail with Torrid Bloom and using Age Correct to stretch it out to the tip.
Bill Boraczek, Senior Vice President of Marketing for Sally Hansen, explains the Veiled Nail. Included are clips of the nail artists executing the technique.

When Tracy described her weather concept to Mally Roncal, she imagined a “stormy” eye, not smokey. The difference being many different layers for a multi-dimensional look. Just as weather has many layers (wind, rain, thunder) she wanted to reflect that in the makeup. Mally achieved the look with layers of plum and black shimmers on the eye. She created a windburn effect with berry stain along cheekbone and above the brow and hot pink shimmer on the apples. She used the same berry stain on lip so it wasn’t a nude lip but also not all about the lips. The overall effect being strong, powerful and not for the makeup shy.I attempted my own version of the Veiled Nail using Zoya Sari, a sheer pink, and Zoya Trinity as the hot pink wash of color. What do you think of the look? Is this something you’d try at home?images: All Lacquered Up and Elle.com

Girlies, you don’t know how badly I’ve been wanting to tell you all about this. It’s the biggest challenge to my self-control yet. Are you ready for this?

I’M GOING TO BE A NAIL POLISH!

Can you believe it? The amazing people at Zoya are coming out with two new collections for summer and one, called Chit Chat, will include shades named after me and five of my fellow beauty bloggers.

When Erin from Zoya asked me a while back what shade I would call “Mismas”, I didn’t quite know what she was up to. You all know me so of course I said GREEN. So, coming to your local Zoya seller this summer will be Mismas, a vibrant lime green with gold shimmer base.
