Deborah Lippmann Fall 2013 “Jewel Heist” – Swatches & Review

Diamonds may be some girl’s best friend but I’ll take emeralds and sapphires any day of the week and clearly Deborah Lippmann is on the same page this fall. Lippmann’s Jewel Heist collection takes a trio of rich, jewel tones and elevates them to a whole new blingtastic level with a set of holographic glitter top coats to match.

You know the old pickup line, “Your daddy must have been a thief  because he stole the stars from the sky and put them in your eyes.” Well, Deborah Lippmann must have been a thief because she robbed a jewelry store and put the gems in her polish. Watch the shimmering emerald, vampy sapphire blue and a multi-dimensional gold pop off the page with the addition of the complex, rainbow-reflecting glitters. Like a magpie, you’ll have a hard time focusing on anything else.

Nail Tip – The Glitter Polish “Dab, Dip & Glide” Tutorial

Chunky glitter nail polish is both a pleasure and a pain. What looks like a party in a bottle can be a total bummer to work with if you approach it like a traditional lacquer. Recently, I’ve had a few friends and readers ask me about the best way to apply glitters, complaining of lumpy, bumpy results.

What better way to explain my “dab, dip & glide” technique than to show you. Check out my quick & dirty nail tutorial with the new Maybelline Color Show Polka Dots color, Blue Marks The Spot.

The Maybelline Color Show Polka Dots limited edition colors officially launch in July 2013 but are already popping up on store shelves. Maybelline nail polish retails for $3.99/ea and a full review is in the works.

Celebrate Valentine’s Day with a Red Hot Milani Manicure

One of the first things I told the boyfriend about being with me is to keep the flower buying to a minimum (seems like a waste) and to NEVER EVER get me a Valentine’s Day gift. Not to be all Debbie Downer about VDay but it’s just not my thing. People put so much pressure on one day and I’d much rather get a surprise from my man because he wants to, not because Hallmark told him to.

Even though we don’t celebrate the holiday, like most men, the BF really loves the color red, especially on nails. As you know, the official colors for today, red and pink, aren’t exactly faves of mine but I may as well indulge him, right? And Milani just happens to have perfect budget-friendly reds to get the job done.

New shades from the Milani High Speed Fast Dry and Jewel FX lines paired with a One Coat Glitter will send Cupid’s arrow straight to your lover’s heart. Or make you the envy of your BFFs when you go out to celebrate the joy of being single.

Side note: There is one thing I look forward to every VDay. My friend HisA sends out an annual email to her girlfriends on this day to share what the past year has taught her about life and love and loving herself as a woman, relationship or not. It’s an amazing gift and something I encourage all of you to do.

China Glaze Let It Snow Holiday 2011 – Greens & Golds Swatches & Review

Oh the weather outside is frightful, But the fire is so delightful,
And since we’ve no place to go, Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!

We’ve already had our first snowfall of the season here in the CLE and the last thing I want to do is encourage it to come trickling down. However, that didn’t stop China Glaze, who is based in sunny California, from putting that earworm in my head.

For Holiday 2011, China Glaze introduces Let It Snow, a collection of twelve festive shades based on the season of giving.

When I previewed Let It Snow during my trip to Cosmoprof, I noticed that the collection’s display broke down the colors into three harmonious groups of four; Greens & Golds, Blue & Silvers and Reds. I decided to follow their lead and am starting with the Greens and Golds; Holly-Day, Glittering Garland, Twinkle Lights and Champagne Bubbles.
