I really have to applaud Urban Decay’s current approach to nail polish. When they relaunched the nail line, they decided on a less is more concept. Instead of overwhelming us with color, they are only releasing two shades per season and it’s really working well. I would much rather have two knockout, well-made polishes than a large collection that includes a few unique shades and a lot of dupes or recycled colors.

Just as I was head over heels for the Urban Decay Fall 2013 nail polish shades, the Urban Decay Holiday 2013 nail polishes have captured my heart as well. Like I seriously never want to take off Zodiac. Which is saying a lot!

Due to her hit song, “All I Want For Christmas Is You”, Mariah Carey is as much a staple of the Holiday Season as Bing Crosby. And thanks to my mom’s office, where holiday music plays non-stop from Thanksgiving until the new year, it is ingrained in my brain.

For that reason, it makes perfect sense that OPI would continue its collaboration with Mariah in their holiday collection, OPI Mariah Carey Holiday 2013. Only this year, not only do we get the usual twelve shades, six being red, we get six new Liquid Sand shades as well. Today, I’m focusing on the non-red portion of the twelve.

If there’s one thing I’ve come to expect from Essie’s Winter collections, it’s warm, cozy shades. Founder Essie Weingarten has a relationship with fabric that really comes through in her collections and at a time when all I want to do is bury under a blanket next to a roaring fire, she delivers that feeling in nail color.

For her Winter 2013 nail polish collection she is pitting rich, dark tones against power pastels, bringing a lightness to what could have been a really heavy palette.

OPI San Francisco for Fall 2013 Blues & Browns Nail Polish Swatches & Review

I’ve never been to San Francisco but I’ve eaten my fair share of Rice-A-Roni over the years. Does that count? San Francisco is one of those cities I almost don’t want to visit because I fear I may love it so much, I’ll never want to leave. Do you know what I mean?

Clearly, OPI shares my long distance love affair with the city as its the subject of their Fall 2013 collection. Though, this year they have expanded their usual twelve color offering to introduce three new Liquid Sand shades. Today I’m showing you the first half of the collection which consists of blue and brown hues, including the three textured nail polishes. One of which I’m simply swooning over.

Estée Lauder “The Metallics” Fall 2013 Nail Polish Swatches and Review

If any brand has earned a “Best Formulation” award for Fall 2013, it’s Estée Lauder for their “The Metallics” nail polishes. Not that their Pure Color Nail Lacquers weren’t great before but, they have single-handedly redeemed metallic nail polish’s not-so-stellar reputation.

In general, true metallic nail polish gets a bad rap. Deservedly so, for the most part. It can be streaky, lumpy and tend to dry with major brush stroke-itis. It’s one reason why foil metallics have gained such popularity over chrome metallics. But, Estée Lauder truly hit it out of the park with this stunning limited edition collection of eight brushed metal shades.
