Favorite Best Black Eyeliner or Eye Liner

For the longest time, I avoided black eyeliner. I was convinced it was too harsh for me and I lived for my long discontinued MAC Graphic Brown Fluidline. But when my Graphic Brown supply finally ran out I forced myself to go out of my comfort zone and experiment with new products and colors.

I now embrace black liner and when I wear another color, it seems too subtle. Go figure, right? So, as part of the latest Makeup Wars, I’m sharing the best black eyeliners in my stash with you.

My Favorite Black Eyeliners

Best Black Eye Liners or Eyeliners
1. MAC Fluidline in Blacktrack ($16, Nordstrom.com) – Fluidline gel liner intimidated me at first but now it’s my go-to, preferred formulation. Using an angled brush, I get precise application that can be as thin or thick as I like it. It glides on like butter and wears so well.

2. Milani Eye Tech Liquid Eye Liner in Black ($6.99, Drugstore.com) – When I want drama, this is what I reach for. This felt tip liquid liner applies pretty thick so, for me, it’s best reserved for evening or special occasion makeup. For the price, it delivers tons of pigment.

3. COVERGIRL Ink It! in Charcoal Ink ($5.99, Target.com) – When I’m in a rush and don’t feel like bothering with a brush, Ink It! comes to my rescue. This twist-up liner pencil is super smooth, no dragging here, and rich with color. I like the charcoal shade as it adds a little smoky drama for days that I don’t want a jet black look.

4. Urban Decay Ink For Eyes in Peversion ($20, Sephora.com) – UD recently released a new lineup of Peversion (aka black) liners in a range of formulas and applicators. This felt tip pen applicator is much thinner than the Milani so I can use it to create a really crisp but thin line along my lash line. It’s perfect for a baby cat eye or wing.

5. Urban Decay All Nighter Eyeliner ($20, Sephora.com) – Also part of the new Peversion liner release, this twist-up pencil delivers intense inky color that is waterproof and budge-proof. I’ve been using it a lot on my lower waterline.

  4. Bex says:

I’m obsessed with the Kat Von D Tattoo Liner. It’s a pen but also brush and so pigmented. I have heard that it dries out really fast for some people but I’ve been using mine for over a month and it’s exactly the same as when I bought it.

  5. Phyrra says:

I love all the UDs :)

  6. Brittany says:

Yeeeep! That Blacktrack is queen! I have so many black liners that I love but MAC has certainly made one of the best.

  7. Gouldylox says:

I need to grab that new UD liner…I haven’t tried that one!!

  8. jbrobeck says:

I used to use gel liners exclusively, but got sick of cleaning off the brush! How lazy is that? I haven’t tried any of your picks yet, so I am adding them to my list!

  9. Eugenia says:

MAC Fluidtrack was my first love! I totally forgot about it until this post!

  10. I need to try the Milani if it makes a thick line maybe it can help me with a cat eye!

  11. I think I’m out of the loop with all the UD love in this series. I have a CoverGirl Ink It in black sitting on my desk right now. It’s on my list for photos and then I get to use it.

  12. I will always love Blacktrack!

  13. Retrodiva says:

Fluidline is still one of my favorites, too.

  14. Faith says:

Jesse’s Girl makes an amazing waterproof black liquid eyeliner for $7 — I found them through Ipsy, and just placed an order for more. https://www.jessesgirlcosmetics.com/product/liquid-eyeliner/liquid-eyeliner-black-454

  15. Rebecca says:

That all nighter by UD is on my wishlist. I need the most budgeproof eyeliners as I always seem to smudge my liner if I forget my glasses and get tired eyes.

  16. janna says:

Lorac Front of the Line Pro is by far my favorite eyeliner. I try others and just keep going back to the Lorac. I’m disappointed that Sephora no longer carries Lorac, but it’s available at Ulta and Kohl’s.
