Mannequin Hands with China Glaze Seashell

By on January 21, 2010
in China Glaze, Mannequin Hands, Nude with 9 Comments

Mannequin Hands is a new series featuring ALU Fanatics showing off their “mannequin hands” shade. The one polish that best gives that elongated, flesh-toned look to their hands.

Gina from Prim and Polished is the subject of today’s mannequin hands.  Gina is a MAC NW30 and she chose China Glaze Seashell. This is what she has to say about it:

“I think it’s a great Mannequin-esque color. Perfect for work. A touch more peachy than nude but flattering I think.”

Are any of you Gina’s hand twin? Have you tried China Glaze Seashell before? If you have Gina’s coloring, what polishes have you discovered for that perfect “mannequin hands” look?

OPI Mad As A Hatter Wear Test

I’ve been reading your comments about the glitters from the OPI Alice In Wonderland collection and see that quite a few of you have been experiencing major chipping issues. I thought I would share the results of my unintentional wear test with Mad As A Hatter.

You see I wore MAAH for NYE and because I can be extremely lazy AND I hate removing glitters (the soak off process is arduous) I ended up leaving the polish on my right (non-photographed) hand for NINE DAYS. Yes, I walked around for almost a week with a blinged out right hand and random skittles on the left. No, I really don’t care about the stares I undoubtedly received.  Don’t judge!

Anywhoodle, when I finally went to remove MAAH, I thought I should document how well it lasted on me. Which is why your comments about chipping are so surprising. I used one coat of Nubar Foundation Base Coat, 3 layers of MAAH and 2 coats of Olan Labs Quick & Slick Top Coat.  Now I did get a chip on my left thumb on NYE but that was a Wii related accident.  You have to admit, for nine days, the polish looks pretty good.

That makes me curious… those of you that have experienced chipping and poor wear from your Alice in Wonderland glitters, what products are you using and how many layers of each? Remember, the thicker the coats and the more coats you use, the more prone you are to chipping. So my first suggestion, not knowing your technique, is to apply thin coats of everything and see if that helps.

Golden Globes Nail Watch – Ginnifer Goodwin & Jeanne Tripplehorn

jeanne-tripplehorn-ginnifer-goodwin-67th-golden-globes-nails Big Love “sister wives” Ginnifer Goodwin and Jeanne Tripplehorn braved the rain-soaked Golden Globes carpet together looking, quite frankly, like a mother-daughter duo.  Jeanne’s matronly dress does no justice to her beauty though she does score points in the nail department for donning a chic, browned-grey nail.As mentioned on E!’s Live From The Red Carpet, the co-stars spent their pre-show time together as well, with pampering manis & pedis at Recess Organic Nail Spa in LA accompanied by Ginnifer’s mom.  Get the full scoop on their nail polish choices and see my color swatches after the jump!

Golden Globes Nail Watch – Vera Farmiga

vera-farmiga-67th-golden-globes-jenna-hipp If you haven’t seen Up in the Air yet add it to your to-do list ASAP. Not to take anything away from George Clooney but Golden Globe nominees Anna Kendrick and Vera Farmiga are so brilliant in it.  Total scene stealers.  Kind of like how Anna Kendrick stole the show when she sang “The Ladies Who Lunch” in Camp.

So when I saw on Twitter that Celebrity Manicurist Jenna Hipp worked with Vera on her nail look, I had to get the scoop.

According to Jenna, “Working with Vera is always a pleasure…it reminds me of when I was a little girl watching my big sister get ready for a big date. Though she’s naturally glamorous and sophisticated, her demeanor is also very soothing.”

“For shape, I narrowed the sides a bit to elongate her fingers and rounded the corners ever so slightly with a glass file to avoid snagging her dress.”

“For color, I used Orly’s Angel Face topped with Deja-Vu. Orly’s Bonder Basecoat and Sec n Dry Topcoat.”

vera-farmiga-golden-globes-tina-turnbow-tarte Regarding Vera’s choice of a neutral nail, “I’m so glad Vera decided on this very clean, neutral nail because it doesn’t compete with her incredible dress and makeup.”

Jenna also spilled some amazing makeup news.  Tina Turnbow created Vera’s look using “the richest mix of brown eyeshadows I’ve ever seen.” Those shadows will be part of the palette Tina helped create for eco-friendly brand Tarte Cosmetics.

How do you feel about Vera’s look?  Do you agree with her natural nail look or would you spice it up with color?
