What’s On Your Nails? is a series focusing on my fellow beauty bloggers and industry insiders, their favorite nail polish and other hot nail topics.

Celebrity Makeup Artist, Beauty Blogger, Entrepreneur, Mentor. Elke Von Freudenberg is all these things but above all, she’s a friend. As the founder of The Beauty Blog Network, Elke is one of the reasons beauty bloggers are such a strong force in the industry. She also introduced me to an amazing, supportive group of women that helped turn me from a clueless newbie into an experienced blogger.

And now she’s the creator of her very own signature line of eyebrow products, The Model Brow. When I had dinner with Elke in L.A. last May, she was still working on the final packaging and now it’s all a reality. So exciting!

Read more about Elke, her thoughts on chipped polish and see her fave polish that just happens to be on my must have list after the jump!

Introduce yourself to the ALU readers. Tell us a little about yourself.
I’m a celebrity makeup artist as well as a blogger. I get to try out makeup products on shoots, celebrities, models as well as myself, and blog about it! I’m also an eyebrow expert in NY and LA as well as the Founder of The Beauty Blog Network.

What is your favorite nail polish?
Parlez Vous-OPI, because it’s just about the most trendiest color right now. lov!

What is on your tips and toes right now?
MAC’s Naturally Rich on toes, and MAC Demi-Blanc on fingers.

Do you consider nail polish a beauty necessity or accessory? Why?
An accessory. It’s like another piece of jewelry. It highlights a certain color in your wardrobe, or makeup. It just gives a little something extra.

How many bottles of nail polish do you own?
Oh lord… about 80-100?

How often do you change your nail polish?
Usually every 2/3 weeks. Polish lasts really long on me, but if I have a certain event or something, I’ll definitely change it to reflect my look for that day or night.

Do you have a favorite nail treatment you think my readers should know about? Why is it so fab?
Any cuticle remover product I can get my hands on. I also love sugar scrubs for hands as well. Just makes the whole end result cleaner. And cuticles look better too.

What do you think will be the big nail trend for spring?
I think it’ll still be pastels for spring, like last, just a grayer version of it.. more dusty.

What nail trend do you wish would go away?
I’m not a fan of the super bright, neon shades. Just doesn’t do a thing for me and screams teeny bopper to me. Just can’t do it. Even on my toes.. just can’t.

What is the biggest nail faux pas that women make?
Chipped nails…. chip chip chip. Makes me wonder what those nails were doing to get that way without a fix. If you can’t take the polish off when it’s looking bad, don’t put it on in the first place. Because yes, everyone is looking at it.

(as I stare at my chipped nails looking guilty) I wonder what she does that makes her manis last for 2 to 3 weeks…

  2. Elke says:

I have silk wrap on my nails to keep them looking good (I’m a notorious picker without) and it keeps polish on forever. A nice bonus!

  3. Lucy says:

I think we should wear any color polish that makes us smile and happy. I don’t worry about “age appropriate” colors. I understand having to wear a certain color for work. I now feel that I should make myself happy and not worry about others. After all if you don’t contribute to my life in any way, why do I care what you think. That’s my rant for the day.
