The first nail-focused beauty blog

I’ve Been Tagged

This past weekend, I had the pleasure of meeting Henna from Canadian Beauty. She’s charming, witty and beautiful. Her skin is so gorgeous, it glows. I can’t even begin to tell you how jealous I am of her complexion. I could only be so lucky. Anywho, she tagged me for a meme and normally I’m not a fan but this one is a bit different so I felt compelled to give in and post.

1.What is the story behind the name of your blog?
Yes, there is an OPI polish with the same name as my blog but that really isn’t where All Lacquered Up came from. Back in the day, I had this crazy fun co-worker that used to corrupt me after work. She’d keep me out way too late at night and cause me to hate the mornings. Well one of her favorite phrases for getting drunk was, “Getting all lacquered up.” I thought it was cute and like so many catch phrases, it stuck with me, even after I left my partying days behind. So when it came time to name this site, I didn’t even have to think about it.

2. Why did I start blogging?
I was and still am a Makeup Alley Nail Boarder (nail board represent!). I was there the day the board started and thanks to some great discount sites and a lot of enabling by the board members, my polish collection grew exponentially. As much as I love Makeup Alley, their message board format sucks. It’s too hard to search for old posts to find product information and images. I started All Lacquered Up as a way to log the nail news I would find and to share my passion for all things polish with the world.

3. What is your best and worst blogging experience?
I’m knocking on wood as I type this but, I haven’t had a truly bad blogging experience and I’m grateful for that.

To even try and name one best would be too hard. This year has been amazingly unbelievable. I got to tour the Zoya factory. I went to Fashion Week. I went on an insiders’ beauty tour of New York City. I’ve formed incredible friendships with people that share my fanaticism. I’ve been featured in publications. I’ve been a part of the beauty blogging evolution that has allowed this new medium to have real credibility in the beauty industry. To quote my pal Geri, “I’m a lucky, lucky girl.”

4. What do I think will happen to the blog in 2008?
My superstitious nature keeps me from trying to make predictions. I mean, if you would have asked me last winter if I thought there was ever a chance I’d be at Fashion Week to report on nail trends, I’d tell you to have another drink. So I really just want to blog one day at a time, hope fortune will find me and be thankful for what All Lacquered Up has already accomplished.

I totally agree with you on the Makeup Alley format – it DOES suck! For a site that has such a HUGE membership, one would think think the mods would modernize the format (like the other online forums I participate in). Perhaps they’re reading this? I can only hope. Thanks for all the good work you do enabling my obsession!

Michelle – thanks for answering my meme! I’ve always loved the name of your blog and I didn’t realize that it had a story behind it completely unrelated to nail polish!

Oh, and congrats on having that nail polish named after you – that is awesome! It’s like going down in the history books of beauty!

That’s weird, in Australia at least we would say “all liquored up”
