Celebrity Nail Watch – Big Brother 8

Ok so they’re not exactly celebrities, more like “celebrities” but CBS’s Big Brother and it’s cast is one of my guiltiest pleasures. My summer addiction. I subscribe to the live feeds, watch the online talk show and vote in all their silly polls. My secret is out, I’m a reality TV addict.

Not only do I love to catch all the drama, showmances and random acts of silliness on the live feeds but I also love getting to see the beauty regimes of the contestants. I know it sounds odd but being a product junkie, I like to see what products other people use and how they use them. This season, one ritual has stood out. Not so surprisingly, it’s the hamsters’ (as the online communities call them) focus on nails.

Now I’ve always caught contestants giving themselves pedis over the years but never before has polish been as noticeable as it is this season. And the girls aren’t the only ones getting in on the act.

Nick, the hunky All-American stud from Minnesota, who’s super comfortable in his sexuality and crushing hardcore on Daniele has been letting her play manicurist on his hands. I’m not a fan of the hot pink but I give him credit for sporting such a bold shade in front of millions of people with pride.

Then there’s the tattooed, rocker wanna be, Evil Dick (a self appointed moniker), who in the tradition of many a rock star (e.g. Dave Navarro) is “rockin” black nails. It works for him and after watching so many hours of him on my laptop, it would be odd to see him with bare nails.

What do you think about guys wearing polish? Is it sexy or weird? Does it only work on certain types of guys?

i wouldn’t say man-polish is “sexy” but it’s not a turn off if it’s the right shade! lol. more power to the man who will wear it and not care what people think.

On all americans it looks weird but on Evil Dick the nail color seems like it was on him since he was born….why am I so attracted to that guy???? I’d take him over any of the others in the house – even with his toot-toot-toot last night.

    Fellow reality TV junkie

I agree with Denier. It’s not abouot the polish as much as the man doing it right! They have to adhere to the same fashion tastes as we do.
About clothing, I know a couple guys who wear skirts, and the only turn off is when they think they can pull off an unflattering piece just because they are guys making a statement. At least do it right, you know?

OT – I love the hoodie in the third pic.

Any guesses on the “reddish” polish on Danielle’s tips?

I think it looks hot if it’s the right shade (I’m partial to silvers and greys on guys) and if the guy has the attitude to pull it off. I had a crush on a guy in college who looked like Kiefer Sutherland, played drums in a band, and wore navy eyeliner. He would be the type that could definitely rock the man-polish.

I think it is all about the person wearing it & how comfortable they are wearing it..
I think it can be ‘hot’ :)
not sure about skirts have yet to see a set of attractive male

I can’t get a good close up of the polish…my opera browser has a good zoom feature, I will check it out on there…

I really don’t mind the dark vampies on guys. The red/pinks… yeah that I don’t find sexy. But for me this is part of the larger “Guys-in-makeup” = “sexy” question in that I’ve known plenty who can and do pull it off. But butt it on my husband, and you’ve just show how stupid the whole practice is for everyobody.

That being said, i would LOVE to go nail polish shopping with a guy or get manis and pedis done together. I love having that difference of perspective.

Love it on Evil & Dave…I think it works on the right guy.

I think it is just like black eyeliner on guys. Some guys can rock it and some cant…I just dont know if I would want to take the ones who can home for Christmas. Doesn’t mean I cant swoon over them though ;0)

OMG–I am totally obsessed with Big Brother. I am also obsessed with Big Brother After Dark that comes on Shotime 2 in the middle of the night. I am so lame! HA

I cannot stand Evil Dick or his nails,(or his gas) but the other nails look good.

    Have a great day!

One of my guilty pleasures too. Hate Dick and his polish, but he needs to stick around for entertainment value. :)

I tend to love dark polish on guys, if it fits their overall look and personality. If it’s out of place on a person, it’ll look odd no matter what colour it is.
