OPI Designer Series *New Colors*

I have to leave for Columbus but I wanted to leave you all with some new pretties to stare at. There are the new Designer Series polishes from OPI and they’re HOLOGRAPHIC!! Just like the original 12. Love them! Glamour will definitely be the first one I use.

Colors (l-r): Amethyst, Passion, Desire, Glamour

Orly Color I.D. 2

Orly has introduced another Color I.D. collection; colors that are supposed to “beautify and enhance natural skin tones.”

The colors are (l-r): Truly Tangerine, Fabulous Flamingo, Lovely Lilac, Precisely Poppy, Beautiful Blush and Wonderful Wisteria

I’ve always considered myself light medium/medium but that lilac color does not appeal to me at all. I’ve tried lilacs before and they make me look deathly. Maybe they should have split the collection into two parts, one for warm skin tones and one for cool skin tones. I love to wear corals like Precisely Poppy but, that’s because I’m warm. I don’t know that the same color would work on a cool skin tone.

What do you think of the shade meant for your skin tone?

NOTD – China Glaze Eyes Like Sapphires

In honor of the Columbus Blue Jackets hockey team, I decided to go BLUE! I’m going to see them play the Detroit Red Wings tonight at Nationwide Arena and wanted to show my team support. Don’t tell the Blue Jackets but I’m really a Red Wings fan at heart.

So, I love the color and the silver micro-glitter but there’s something about the formula used in the We Adorn You collection that’s not working for me. I had this same problem with Soft Sienna Silks from this collection. It doesn’t apply as evenly as my other China Glaze polishes. And application, in addition to color range, is one of the things I love most about China Glaze.

Drinkin’ My Blues Away from the Spring ’06 Tequila Toes collection is very similar to this color. But, unlike Eyes Like Sapphires, it has that jelly, glaze-like consistency that I’ve come to know and love about China Glaze polishes. I also got some bubbling from this color and I don’t know if it’s my technique or the polish that caused it.

On a side note, it is freezing here in Ohio. The snow is coming down and I’m not looking forward to driving to Columbus this afternoon. In the middle of all this weather there’s me, outside with my camera taking pictures of my hands, trying to avoid getting snow on the lens. The lengths I go to for a good pic. I can only imagine what my neighbors think. I wonder if I’m the crazy neighbor lady that everyone talks about. Oh my, I hope that’s not me.

So, what’s on your nails today? Is it a keeper?

Natural Solutions to Toenail Problems

I found this article on the CareFair website and thought it was useful.

Try a Comfrey Foot Bath for an Ingrown Toenail

Toenails that have grown into the flesh of the foot can be painful and long-lasting. Ingrown toenails can be caused by ill fitting shoes, improper trimming, a toe injury, an infection or they can be genetic. The next time you have an ingrown toenail try treating your toes with a comfrey root foot bath.

Fill a plastic shoebox or other small container with ½ gallon of warm water, and ½ ounce of comfrey root. Soak the affected foot for 20 minutes, and then use a tissue or piece of cotton under the nail to keep it from curling into the skin. Comfrey root can be purchase online and at health stores. Seek medical attention if your ingrown toenail has not improved in a few days, or has become infected.

Soak Brittle Toenails in Sesame Oil

You can soak broken, brittle toenails in sesame oil to strengthen and protect them. Warm some of the oil by itself or with some olive oil and soak your toes for 10 minutes at a time. Sesame oil is an Ayurvedic remedy for brittle nails.

Remove Polish Stains with Denture Cleaner

If nail polish stains plague your precious toes, pop a denture tablet
into a container with warm water and soak your toenails. The cleaner should help remove stains, and if it needs some extra help use a toothbrush to scrub toenails.

Cut Toenails Straight Across

One way to avoid ingrown toenails, nail infections and nails growing in
crooked and painfully is to make sure to cut toenails straight across when manicuring. When the nails are cut straight the side of the toenail has no chance to dig into your skin.

Clean and Disinfect Cuts Promptly

When you stub your toe or cut a toenail down too far and cause it to bleed, clean and disinfect the cut as soon as it occurs to avoid germ contamination and infection. Pour a capful of full-strength hydrogen
peroxide on the sore and let it breathe to allow the cut to heal.

Eat Lots of Omega-6 Fatty Acids and Biotin for Healthy Toenails

A diet rich in foods with omega-6 fatty acids is beneficial for toenail strength. Eat cold-water fish to get more in your diet, like salmon. Biotin is also known as vitamin B7 and is important in breaking down fatty acids and aiding cell growth. You can get more biotin in your diet by eating lentils, peanuts and soybeans.

There are a couple of interesting remedies in this article that I’ve never heard of before. I didn’t know the power of sesame oil or comfrey root.

Another solution for removing stains is Bubble White, you can find it or something similar at most beauty supply stores. Also, I highly recommend taking Biotin supplements or eating biotin rich foods if you want your nails to grow faster. I take 2000 mcg of Biotin daily. Of course, I’m not a doctor so you should always check with one before starting any supplement. And a word of warning. Biotin will not only make your nails grow faster but your hair too, ALL your hair. My razor hates me.

The Worst Nails of the Golden Globes

I can’t just kiss celeb butt, I need to address what I thought were polish mistakes as well. This is the stuff you’ll never hear Joan Rivers talk about. She can hardly remember the star’s names, let alone what’s on their nails.

Access Hollywood’s Maria Menounos. I don’t know what she was thinking when she agreed to wear this hideous white polish. I know that white and pale colors are “in” for spring but it’s just not working for me.

Ellen Pompeo of Grey’s Anatomy. I thought she looked stunning. Her dress was unique and it kept her from looking like a bean pole but the nail color choice was completely wrong. That dirty nude shade made her hands look like they belonged on a corpse. Naked tips would have been better than that monstrosity.

The ladies of Grey’s Anatomy need some serious polish intervention. I think Katherine Heigel is one of the most beautiful women on television and at the 2006 Emmy’s she was a goddess on the red carpet. But, the combo of dark eyes, dark dress and dark nails was just too much for me.

She should have been the fashion forward gal sporting white polish.

As much of a fashion plate as Chloe Sevigny of Big Love is, I expected more from her than naked toes in clodhoppers.

Chloe find Reese and become friends. Share pedi secrets and report back with some color on your toes.
