It’s not secret that when it comes to eye makeup, I LIVE for a palette. And a peek inside my in-need-of-a-good-purge makeup collection will reveal that MAC palettes make up the majority of my stash. Especially the holiday ones. I probably have eight or more of them.
So when the Makeup Wars gang decided to create a holiday makeup look, I knew exactly what to reach for. The MAC Keepsakes Plum Eyes palette is so my style, with the majority of the colors leaning towards cool. It created a smoky eye that is perfect for holiday parties and I couldn’t resist coming up with a nail look to go with it. Check it!
The Makeup Wars gang is tackling another palette, featuring a diverse range of looks and tutorials using the same product. This time, it’s the Anastasia Beverly Hills Maya Mia Palette. The warm-toned palette is not a color range I would normally gravitate towards so I was excited to take on the challenge of stepping outside my eye shadow comfort zone.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, I love, love, love palettes. They’re probably my favorite makeup item to buy as I appreciate when brands take the guesswork out of creating a great eye look. The new Too Faced Cat Eyes Palette is an excellent example. Bringing together six silky shadows and three wet/dry shadows that can be used as liners, Too Faced combined three of my fave eye shades, purple, brown and navy, with mint and jet black to create one extremely versatile palette. For the longest time, I avoided black eyeliner. I was convinced it was too harsh for me and I lived for my long discontinued MAC Graphic Brown Fluidline. But when my Graphic Brown supply finally ran out I forced myself to go out of my comfort zone and experiment with new products and colors.
I now embrace black liner and when I wear another color, it seems too subtle. Go figure, right? So, as part of the latest Makeup Wars, I’m sharing the best black eyeliners in my stash with you.
