We all have that one physical feature that we love more than the rest and totally play up. For me, it’s my hair. I may fight with unruly waves and frizz but I am lucky to have a thick head of hair that, when tamed, I just adore.
However, nothing can ruin a dark mane like embarrassing dandruff flakes. It happens to most of us and it’s something I began battling last winter. Though thanks to regular Head & Shoulders Smooth & Silky use, I can finally declare that I am FLAKE-FREE.
Head & Shoulders Smooth & Silky
When I was in high school, dandruff would randomly rear its ugly head and I always turned to Head & Shoulders to get my scalp back to normal. Thankfully, I spent the majority of my adulthood without issue. And, when the boyfriend had dry scalp issues, I got him on the H&S train. 10+ years later, he’s still a faithful user.
Though when my dandruff problem arose earlier this year, I was oddly resistant to return to old faithful. You see, thanks to some persistent hairline grays, I regularly color my hair and that left me with color fading concerns. However, I finally gave in and am happy to report that, the Smooth & Silky ph balanced formula has not only made me flake-free, my color has never been affected.
In fact, my hair feels just as soft and frizz-free as when I was a super, sulfate-free girl. To boot, I no longer have build-up issues from silicone-heavy styling products. And now that Head & Shoulders includes Fresh Scent Technology, I get the bonus of a water-activated sensory experience. The scent is so good, you guys!

Now that my hair is flake-free, I can go back to experimenting with different hair styling techniques, like braids. Before, I would perish the thought of kicking up flakes as I used my nail to separate pieces for a braid. I’ve even found myself attempting more complicated techniques, like a waterfall braid with confidence.
I even feel better about my everyday flippy blowout, knowing I don’t have to be on patrol, looking for pesky flakes at my crown.
This past weekend, I packed my Head & Shoulders as I sailed away with the boyfriend and family to my fave summer locale, Put-In-Bay. It was a hot, windy weekend so a simple waterfall braid kept my shorter layers from blowing in my face.
ps I learned how to do a waterfall braid from Meghan Rienks. Her curls give me major hair envy.
Wanting to try something more fun, and knowing I could wear a deeper part with no flaking, I gave this faux, side-shave braid a go. Again, something I saw from my little sister in my head, Meghan Rienks. After curling my hair with a clipless wand, I created a deeper-than-usual part and did a tight french braid down the side, pinning the tail underneath.
