For spring, NARS is going on an aquatic adventure filled with gold, turquoise and aquamarine shades. I love anything related to water so I’ve got my eye on the China Seas Duo of golden turquoise and iridescent plum shadows. When it comes to nails, the NARS High Seize collection includes a ripe cantaloup- inspired shade, Wind Dancer.

Formula & Application

NARS nail polishes are 4-Free (Formaldehyde, DBP, Toluene and Formaldehyde Resin). The squat square bottles are topped with a somewhat rubberized cap that houses a short, round brush. Unlike a lot of prestige brands that have a removable outer cap, the NARS cap is one solid piece. The bristles are pretty flexible, though they are kind of sparse and don’t fan out easily.

Wind Dancer is a semi-sheer jelly based polish. It flows freely on the nail with no streaking and it self levels so you don’t need to worry about an uneven finish. As with all jelly polishes, it has a lucite or Jello-esque appearance so after three coats you can still see the nail through it.

NARS Wind Dancer is a cantaloupe orange as I mentioned above. It has that squishy look that we love about jelly polishes and while it’s not pigmented in terms of opacity, the coloring is rich.

Given that I hate, HATE, how my detached nails look wearing sheers, I decided to create a jelly sandwich using Sally Hansen CSM Twinkle Toes-ty. The hex sequins in TT are usually holographic but with Wind Dancer layered over top, it’s more mellow. If this doesn’t scream sunny summer day, I don’t know what does.

Get The Look: Begin with two coats of Wind Dancer. Add a layer of Twinkle Toes-ty, another coat of Wind Dancer and repeat.

Bottom Line: Wind Dancer will appeal to the jelly polish lovers out there. The formula applies extremely well and it dries super glossy. Since I only like to wear jellies when they are layered, at this price point, Wind Dancer wouldn’t be worth picking up for me.

NARS Wind Dancer and the rest of the Spring 2014 High Seize collection is available now at NARSCosmetics.com and NARS counters nationwide including Nordstrom.com. NARS nail polish retails for $19/ea for a .5oz bottle.

Are you a fan of jelly nail polish? What do you think of Wind Dancer? Do you plan to pick this one up?

  1. I love your jelly sammich look! I wasn’t sure I wanted this polish until I saw your layering.

  2. Jenni says:

Jeepers. That’s gross. The sandwich saves it and looks great but on it’s own? No chance. What were they thinking? It’s a bit like those polishes that make you look like you have a REALLY bad nicotine-habit.

  3. Lisa N. says:

Pretty jelly shade! I love it with that glitter on top :)

  4. Anna says:

Hi ALU! Great post! I love this color, but $19 is definitely out of my league. Do you know of a polish similar to this at a lower price point? Thanks for your efforts — love your work :-D

Hi Anna! Offhand, I can’t think of any sheers that are quite that shade. The new Essie Resort 2014 shade, Resort Fling is similar in that it has a jelly base though it’s more coral and more opaque. Are you looking for something as sheer as the NARS color?

      • Anna says:

Hello! Searching for the same shade as “Wind Dancer”, the sheerness is a non-factor. The swatches for both are so lovely, I’m going to have to purchase both regardless of cost. Thanks for your work, love it. :-D

I can’t seem to find anything in my collection that matches and is still available. Orly Festival Lights is a close, opaque, dupe but it’s from ’09 and not available. If I comes across something, I’ll let you know.

i like a more opaque polish. this isn’t for me. i might need that sally hanson twinkle toes-ty though!

Love this jelly sandwich. Very cute and squishy! I think I’m addicted to making jelly sandwiches with OPI Pirouette My Whistle. LOL!
