L’Oréal Paris Colour Riche Gold Dust Textured Nail Polish Swatches & Review

L’Oreal Paris Gold Dust

I Bought This

L’Oréal Paris has jumped on the texture bandwagon with their recent release, L’Oréal Colour Riche Gold Dust, a collection of nine sparkly, sandy shades. I spotted these beauties during my recent Bed, Bath & Beyond HBC visit and had to bring four of them home with me. In fact, I dig these so much, I’m going back for more.

Formula & Application: L’Oréal Paris Colour Riche Nail is 5-Free. The rectangular glass bottles are topped with a smooth, round cap that is the perfect length to hold comfortably between fingers without becoming cumbersome. The brush is flat, thin and long. Normally, I’m a fan of the brush but, for some reason, in this formula it has a thicker, wider feel. It was a challenge to apply the polish without hitting skin so peeps with narrow fingers, beware.

As with all textured nail polishes, these are meant to be worn without top coat to get the full effect. Because there is so much glitter and particle packed into the base, it’s better to apply three thin coats than two thick ones. In this instance, I only needed two coats though I’m showing Too Dimensional? with both two and three coats to demonstrate how the color can deepen.

L’Oréal Colour Riche Too Dimensional? has this overpowering fine gold shimmer in the bottle yet it gets a bit lost in the nail until. It becomes a background player to this violet-based glitter confection littered with tiny hexagonal sequins. However, adding a third coat to my ring finger deepens the color and brings out the gold. I’ve heard someone compare this to OPI Alcatraz Rocks and while I see the similarity, they are not twins. In fact, Alcatraz is darker and more grape than violet.

L’Oréal Color Riche Sexy In Sequins has a blackened plum base filled with red, purple, gold and blue glitter, texture and sequins. It looks much more red in the bottle than it is on the nail and that’s from the high levels of fine red shimmer in the base. It pops out more in incandescent light than daylight.

L’Oréal Color Riche Pop The Bubbles is a minty, pale teal filled with silvery glitter and tonal sequins. This is the only shade of the four that has a doppelganger. Julie G Frosted Gumdrops Rock Candy is a near identical dupe.

L’Oréal Color Riche Hidden Gems has a very apt name in that there is a hidden shade shift in this blackened teal texture with silver sequins. The duo-chrome is pretty strong in the bottle but on the nail, you have to hit the light just right to see the intense purple shimmer. I attempted to capture it below but it’s a rascally one to pin down.

Bottom Line: Texture CAN’T, it WON’T and it DON’T stop and I’m not complaining one bit. Outside of any application issues due to the brush, these sparkling textures from L’Oréal Paris are gorgeous and worth checking out. Hidden Gems is definitely a favorite as I haven’t seen anything like it from other brands and Too Dimensional?, as a lightened up version of Alcatraz Rocks, is a winner in my book. The only shade I don’t consider a necessity is Pop The Bubbles as I already own the Julie G version but if you missed out on that LE shade, here’s your chance.

The L’Oreal Colour Riche Gold Dust collection is limited edition and available now at drugstores and mass retailers nationwide. They sell for $5.49/ea for a .39oz bottle at Bed, Bath & Beyond but price will vary by retailer.

Have you spotted the Gold Dust collection in your area? Which shades do you plan to pick up? Are you still into texture or so over it?

I have been eyeing these up lately. The Hidden Gems color is gorgeous. I have never had luck with textured polishes though because they have to be worn without a top coat.

    • Michelle Mismas says:

Really? What happens when you wear them? Is it chipping? I apply them over a base coat and get excellent wear.

    • Kellie says:

Who says you have to wear texture polish without topcoat?? I have worn it and I have seen tons of bloggers who wear it and it looks pretty either with or without. I think it is just a personal preference. Try it out…maybe it will change your view on texture. =)

  2. Vicki @ WITC says:

How funny that the only color you don’t consider a necessity is the one I love the most! :)

  3. Debra Q says:

I’ve owned them all for a week or so and I’m so in love with them. I think they have the nicest texture. I have also stamped over them, worked beautifully. Now I used them last night to foil over. That came out perfectly.

  4. Jade says:

I’m really developing an all-encompassing, almost obsessive love for textured nail polishes. They seem to last a bit longer than other polishes in general. Only downside is that I can’t quit touching my nails when I wear them. Makes things awkward at work when people see me doing it. So yeah, another set of nail polishes to add to my shopping list; wonderful post!

    • Michelle Mismas says:

I think what I love the most about them is that you don’t have to worry about wrecking the finish. You can jet not long after polishing and they look perfect. No denting or smudging a glossy finish.

  5. asina camille annang says:

    Where can i buy those?

    • Michelle Mismas says:

Hi Asina! I post purchase information at the bottom of all my posts. These are available at drugstores and mass retailers like ULTA, Target, Walmart, etc but it will vary by location as not all stores carry the same inventory.

  6. Josephine says:

I’m really excited about these, I hope I’ll find them in stores soon! Gorgeous swatches!

  7. Karo says:

wow! they are so wonderful <3

  8. Julie says:

These colors are gorgeous! I’m not a huge fan of the textured fad but I’ve found textured polishes with a few hefty coats of top coat tend to look amazing! Have you tried any of these with a top coat by chance?

    • Michelle Mismas says:

I tried Hidden Gems with top coat but only one layer. It made it shiny but not smooth. I prefer them without

  9. Nedian says:

It’s so funny that the three I got the other week are the three top ones you have here. I guess they are the ones that stand out when you’re in front of the complete display.

Have you managed to find the newest Julie G collection at Rite Aid? The purple and the green (which aren’t dupes for any of the Zoya Pixie Dusts) are gorgeous.

    • Michelle Mismas says:

I JUST went to Rite Aid and got those. I picked up the blue, green and purple. I haven’t worn them yet but the emerald looks gorgeous in the bottle.

  10. Danii says:

I don’t know how I feel about textures (only have a Sally Hansen Sugar Coat/Sugar Shimmer) but Hidden Gems? WANT! It’s gorgeous! Your swatches just convince me I need Hidden Gems.XP

    • Michelle Mismas says:

Glad I could turn you around on the idea of texture. They’re not all built the same so you have to find the one that speaks to you.

  11. Lelia Pierce says:

These look amazing! Definitely need to find me some! Thanks for the post!

  12. awesome review! tempted to buy this!!

  13. kel says:

i was worried with the title that these would all have gold in them. happy to hear that pop the bubbles and hidden gems are silvery. def getting both! thanks for the awesome swatches and info!

    • Michelle Mismas says:

Yes, the Gold Dust moniker doesn’t make much sense to me and could put people off who don’t like to wear gold. Glad you gave them a glance.

  14. Squeaky Q says:

Two of these really remind me of the new Space Dust polishes by Rimmel, but I’m not complaining since these are gorgeous!

  15. Zucker says:

oh dudette the 3 last shades just look so amazing, i am not a L’oreal friendly though, first time i used a color-riche polish it never dried and stayed …. smooth and melty on the surface i hated it, do these correctly dry?

    • Michelle Mismas says:

Boo, sorry they didn’t work for you. I’ve had good luck with all the Colour Riche polishes I’ve used. That being said, these dry pretty fast and stay put. I’ve had other textures take longer to fully dry but these are similar to Zoya PixieDust.

  16. Carrie says:

Great post and lovely pictures, as always! How is removal with these?

    • Michelle Mismas says:

Thank you so much Carrie! They’re pretty similar to the other textures. They’re not as easy as regular polish but not as bad as a chunky glitter. The only thing I noticed, is the sequins tend to end up on my skin if I’m not careful.

  17. Jill says:

I saw these but didn’t want to get more glitter/texture. But after seeing these pics imma gonna have to change my mind! These are beautiful.

  18. Cr says:

Those polishes are wonderful!!! The 3rd is my favorite, so beautiful !

  19. Shraddha says:

really wish this collection was also released India, unfortunately its not going to happen :(. Loved the Hidden gems..can’t resist to own it.

  20. Just picked up two of these from Krogers. I got Diamond in the Rough and The Reign of Studs. Diamond is more of a rosy color while Studs is a true purple. I’m thinking of doing a gradient with them. Of course, after seeing this, I now have to go back after the rest. ;o)

    • Michelle Mismas says:

I just bought Diamond in the Rough as well. I saw that L’Oreal Manicurist Tom Bachik used it on Jennifer Lopez at the AMA’s and had to check it out. It’s gorgeous.

  21. Jenny says:

These are gorgeous! Thanks for the review. Can’t wait to get these. Your descriptions and photos are great, LOVE your blog!!

  22. Brandi says:

I love love love all these textured polishes! They are my go-to polish as of late because they dry so fast and last quite a while. The more the merrier I say :)

  23. Andi says:

I love love love this whole line. I have Sexy in Sequins on my nails right now! I bite my nails almost all of the time unless I have polish on them. With the textured finish of this product it feels weird to bite but I cannot stop feeling them!! Helps so much

  24. I adore these! I just picked up 4 in Wal-Mart today but I think I’ll be going back to pick up the rest, I can’t find Zoya PixieDust around where I live, & these are awfully close! Love them!
