Emerald Madness Nail Polish Bracket

It’s no secret that I’m a longtime lover of green nail polish so when Pantone bestowed their coveted “Color of the Year” title on Emerald, no one was happier than me. Combine that with the fact that I’m a May baby (May 31st) with an emerald birthstone and the concept for Emerald Madness was born.

Keep reading to view the contenders and cast your vote in the first round of playoffs.

I sorted through every green nail polish I own, both current and discontinued colors. I broke the competition down into four major categories (Creme, Glitter, Shimmer and Specialty), selecting the top eight contenders in each field. Serving as your Associated Press, I seeded the colors for each bracket and now it’s all up to you.

You have from now until Saturday May 11th to vote for your first round favorites with the winners and next round of voting revealed on Monday, May 13th. We will continue voting throughout the month of May with the overall winner revealed on my birthday, May 31st.

The survey is now closed. Thank you for voting! Here are the Round 1 contenders, for your viewing pleasure.

  1. Essie Rae says:

I’m right there with you – I LOVE green nail polish and have been on a buying spree lately…

    • Steffy says:

me too re liking and shopping lately. so many greens, so little time (and only 20 digits available unless I start polishing my husband too) my green kick is so strong I’m even de-lurking just to mention it, heh :)

  2. Can’t wait to see which one wins. I love Emeralds.

  3. Melinda says:

    Awesome. Love green polish too.

  4. Lisa says:

    YAY!!! GO GREEN!!!!

  5. Blue says:

    Hope OPI wins!!!

  6. susan schneider says:

Sad not to see Zoya Logan in the mix. My favorite deep green right now.

  7. songbird says:

My fave, Zoya Logan, was not on the list.

    • Michelle says:

Logan has a lot of gold in it so it doesn’t really qualify for the best emerald. There are a lot of greens out there. I had to narrow it down so they couldn’t all make it.

    • susan schneider says:

      great minds!

  8. Kara says:

    I LOVE GREEN!

  9. Kara says:

CG Gaga for Green is my personal favorite currently!

    • Michelle says:

That’s a great shade but not emerald. That’s the whole point of this vote. To select the best emerald, not just the best green.

  10. collar wilson says:

I wish Nars Zulu was in the selections so I could vote for it. Zulu is available again on the Nars website under their vintage polishes.

  11. SuzyS says:

There must be a lot of green out there, because I own 14 and none were even on this list! Wow! Kinda surprised to see Jade is the New Black (OPI), Ancient Jade (Orly) and Fresh Frog of Bel Aire (OPI glitter) missing from the list.

My fave greens are Green-wich Village (OPI), Mermaid to Order (shimmer, Sephora) and Wandering Vine (Orly).

    • Michelle says:

Unfortunately, not every green can make the list and I chose the best emerald shades, not just green.

  12. collar wilson says:

From the Temptalia website: Free shipping on $50+ orders. Complimentary mini Laguna Bronzer with Any Order*! Use promo code LBMAY13 at checkout, expires 5/31.

  13. Laurel says:

The one issue I see is that it’s rather unlikely that anyone owns all of these polishes, so it’ll probably wind down to brand loyalty. I wouldn’t be surprised if OPI’s sole contender won a round or two. I mean, admittedly I looked more at the names than the colors themselves when voting.
I still think this is a very good idea though, and I’d enjoy seeing another bracket if this is a success!

    • Michelle says:

At the end of the day, it’s just for fun. People vote how they vote. There’s no right or wrong way to do it.

      • Laurel says:

It also makes me feel a touch self conscious about how few greens I have! I only have 9! I’ve been on a real brown kick lately. I’ve worn my beloved ChG Unplugged three times over the last two months while Running in Circles and Revlon Posh (the only two in this bracket I have) sit unloved! I actually feel really bad about that!

        • Florasol says:

funny, it makes ME feel self conscious about how many greens I have! (blush blush shame shame)
          :D

  14. Kimberly says:

I love this. I’m a May baby also!

  15. Tori says:

    Genius idea!! :)

  16. Icequeen81 says:

It was difficult to choose some times

  17. kelliegonzo says:

como what? how fun! i do however miss my beloved RBL recycle though…

    xx

  18. Lesley says:

I’ve been looking everywhere for a good compilation of greens like this! I was pretty excited to find this post. Since I own no greens at all, and it is the Pantone color of the year, I’m trying to find a good green nail polish. I need to break myself out of my pink and coral rut.
Now I just have to sort through all the lovely greens to try to determine which of the ones still available would be best for my very pale, warm toned skin so I don’t end up looking sickly or something. :)

  19. TikiBwana says:

My faves are Running in Circles, Emerald Sparkle, Ivanka, and ones I didn’t see here… Spa Ritual’s Earth Matters, Savina Electric Green, and Nicole by Opi Fell From the Tree… a really gorgeous emerald green.

I like St. George but think it is too blue to be emerald.

  20. Maria says:

Shame that Ninja Polish Shillelagh wasn’t on the list. It is my absolute favourite green!
Love your Emerald competition idea though – great one!

  21. Fellow Emerald lover and May (25th) baby here! This is fun! :)

  22. Sharon says:

Whew, that was fun! I love greens but I don’t ever wear them – I just don’t like them on me.

It must have been a lot of work to put this all together!!

  23. *Ky* says:

This was a brilliant idea, I loved the survey!

  24. Steffy says:

fun! I’m just happy I actually own a few of these so I can vote on more than just how they look here –not that there’s a thing wrong with that! plus more to add to my shopping list too :p

  25. Enjoli says:

This was fun! Can’t wait to see the results come Monday. My favorite color is green as well!

  26. Margje says:

This was a lot of fun to do! I wasn’t familiar with all of the polishes, so I kept myself busy with searching for swatches (:

  27. NailPolishFan says:

So many greens. I love the fact that each one was unique in their own special way.

  28. Stephanie Smith says:

Why don’t you forget the voting and just crown China Glaze’s Emerald Sparkle the winner? The. Perfect. Emerald!!!

  29. Carolina says:

May baby right here! AND a fellow lover of all things emerald! I love this Emerald Madness! Great selections too.

  30. Lexi says:

This survey is awesome! My favorite nail polish is green too so I am so excited! Great idea. It must’ve taken a long time to sort through ALL of your greens so thank you for all the effort you put into this ALU ^.^ they are all winners!

  31. Laura Iriarte says:

Such a fun idea Michelle! I loved voting! Though I am so competitive I was stressing if I was picking the right ones because I couldn’t see them swatched or the bottles weren’t showing the color well! I know- silly me! :)

  32. Great idea. Reminds one of how many green nail polish there are out there.
