The ALU Archives – Lippmann Nefertiti

The ALU Archives is a new series focusing on older, beloved shades from the All Lacquered Up stash.

After my experiment with Minx during the holidays, I’ve been really feeling the whole gold nails thing. Of course, the shiny chrome look of Minx is a bit much for everyday so I pulled out my fave from the stash, Lippmann Nefertiti.

It’s funny, I was talking with a couple of my fellow beauty bloggers about the emerging gold trend for Spring and both times I had to recommend Nefertiti as my go-to gold. Why, you ask? Because it’s one of the few metallics I’ve found that doesn’t show brush strokes. There’s something about its frosty shimmer that creates this matte, gold-leafing effect on the nail, instead of streaky stroke marks. And because the shimmer is gold and silver, the hue isn’t too warm or too yellow. It’s pretty perfect if you ask me.

What you see here is two layers with no top coat. Actually Nefertiti is so densely pigmented that you barely need the second coat but it’s just habit that I apply two.

Nefertiti retails for $15 and can be purchased online at LippmannCollection.com or on counters at Nordstrom.

Just got Zoya Richelle, which is obviously a very different gold, but does it have a similar finish? Also sort of curious how they compare (even though I know they are far from dupy).

    What’s your favorite gold?

Well, now it’s THAT one. WANT WANT WANT.

I’ve always wanted this one. I remember it was featured in a Sephora ad a few years ago and I fell in love. My favorite gold has always been my L’Oreal Jet Set in Las Vegas. My bottle has to be close to 10 yrs old!

Zoya Richelle is by far my favorite gols polish…and those who know me in the neck of the NB woods ‘know’ that I’m a gold polish freak-lover :) I
I first saw Nefertiti on the nails of another fellow blogger, and I remember thinking “maybe I should work an extra little shift so I can go after this baby…”
Well, maybe I will someday :)Hopefully it will still be available when my pocket is ready!

I really like Butter London’s The Full Monty, which I thought would be really garish on my nails, but it applied really well. Makes me feel very “Bond Girl” when I wear it!

Great colour!!! How does this compare to Chanel’s Kaleidoscope? Any chance of a colour comparison?

Nice shade :) I’ve been tempted to try gold, but shied away, afraid it would look gaudy. I really like it, though. I’ll probably start out with a cheaper brand, since I’m experimenting.

    Oh, WANT.

I actually got the Chanel Gold Fiction for Christmas, and it’s nice and all, but kind of underwhelming – especially at the price point! So glad it was a gift! I’ll be trying the Lippman as soon as my discretionary income sez ok.

By the way, I’m new here, but thanks to a few weeks of lurking, I’ve started a collection and seem to have a new obsession. I’d like to thank you for all the recommendation! (My wallet would like to ask you to stop, but la la la I don’t hear it.)

I do like Nefertiti! But I’m still partial to Lippmann Collection Believe. It’s a bit sheerer, but still blingy enough for me. And I get compliments every time I wear it!

Favourite gold definitely goes to OPI’s I get a kick out of gold.

It’s the one shade of gold that doesn’t clash with my yellow skin tone, and the finish is sooo pretty.

  11. adrian says:

I picked this up last month in Bath & Body Works–I haven't tried it yet—but now I will. It is gorgeous!

  12. MissG says:

OPI I Get a Kick Out of Gold because it isnt too over the top and doesnt scream “hey look at me”. And like arkanefyre said above, it doesnt clash with yellowish skin tones..
