glamour, september 2008, penelope cruz, glamour magazine, andrea pomerantz lustig Someone pinch me! No wait that’s not enough, slap me in the face. I must be dreaming because I’m in GLAMOUR magazine. Can I say that again please? I’M IN GLAMOUR MAGAZINE!!!

A reader emailed me this morning to tell me about the mention (thanks Steph!) and I had to run right out and grab a copy (I’m not waiting for mine to come in the mail). On page 126 of the September 2008 issue, with Penelope Cruz on the cover, I’m part of Andrea Pomerantz Lustig’s Beauty Q&A column. Can you believe it? I’m still in shock.

A few months back when Andrea asked my advice on applying metallic polishes (who doesn’t have problems with them), I wasn’t sure exactly how she’d use it. Well color me happy to see my tip show up in print.

I’ve been a subscriber to Glamour for as long as I can remember and I’m not even kissing ass by saying that Andrea’s column has always been a fav of mine. Even back when it was just a sidebar of beauty Dos and Don’ts. I’ve picked up so many great beauty tips from her over the years so to see my name and All Lacquered Up on that page is a huge honor and thrill.

  6. Anonymous says:

Can you explain this tip? You apply a quick-dry top coat as a base coat? I thought that they don’t adhere to bare nails.

    Congrats!

It seems that lately your entries were just centered around yourself and your presence at various sites, magazines, events or mentions of your blog at said sites, magazines, events…where are the actual polished nails? I am not going to read this self-aggrandizing blog anymore. There are nail polish blogs out there where girls still do the hard work of actually painting and posting.

  19. CincyFan says:

Thanks everyone! I appreciate the support.

Anon #1 & Lydia – I apply the glossy top coat between the base coat and lacquer. The slick surface helps eliminate brush strokes.

Rose Growing Gal – Thanks for raining on my parade. Not that you deserve an explanation but I don't typically share my personal issues on this blog. However, I have been dealing with a life & death crisis for the past few weeks that has left my family emotionally crippled. So I'm sorry I didn't take time away from that situation to swatch polish for you but I had other things to take care of that were more important.

    That’s better than cool! Congrats!

You were much more fun when you were swatching, really. Do you know that in the last month you swatched exactly 4 nail polishes. 4, wow. Everything now is “I’m here, I’m there, look at me”, and “look at the nail polish brands that sponsor me”. It’s nice, and I’m happy for you, but I have no reason to watch your blog anymore…
And you used to be my number 1.I’m sad, actually…

  22. CincyFan says:

Anon #4 – I’m sorry you’re unhappy but I can only do so much. I wish I didn’t have to work and could sit home all day and swatch polish for everyone but that’s just not the case. I have a family, a job and a life and while I love this blog and everyone that reads it, I don’t have unlimited amounts of time.

I could rush and do crappy swatches but then people would complain that they bought a polish that looks nothing like what I posted. I post when I can and try to deliver good content. Now, like I said, I’ve had personal issues that have kept me from posting much lately so instead of posting nothing, I shared some of my good fortune with my readers.

Don’t listen those people complaining about your blog. I still love it, and I agree that you shouldn’t do a poor job swatching just to get something out there.

  24. Anonymous says:

I agree your blog is a little too self promo lately.

  25. Anonymous says:

congratulations on the glamour nod! I love your blog. it is truly the little things that we do for ourselves that enhance our feminity. thank you

Thanks :) It was the combination of words “quick-dry top coat as a base” that threw me off entirely because I know how finicky those quick-drys can be if used not as intended. Your explanation makes a lot more sense.

  29. Duffi McDermott says:

Michelle, don’t listen to the anonymae. I am so thrilled for you! This is so terrific!!

And whatever the family issue is, I’m so sorry. PM me if you like.

    love,
    Duffi

Michelle, look after youself and your loved ones, and then just fit “us” in when you can. Great blog, lots of love from the U.K.
    Ali.

  31. Melli says:

Michelle, congrats on making it into Glamour! You deserve it, and as a regular reader of your blog, I think it is one of the best out there. I always love your swatches, but it is also great to read that you are getting accolades for your blog! Hang in there with the family situation, and we understand that family should come before all else at these times.

To those readers who are taking this opportunity to slag on Michelle, you really need to rethink your priorities. Blogs are not posted for your personal gratification, but because someone wants to share something they enjoy. They post when they can, and it is hard to share this enjoyment when life throws you something tough to deal with. Shame on you and get over yourselves!!

Don’t listen to the haters. You are wonderful and I bought Glamour this month just because of this. :)

    How exciting. Congratulations.

I saw that in the Glamour I read on my beach weekend. Congrats, that’s fab!

I echo all of those who say don’t sweat the haters. You don’t “owe” us any explanations. It’s not like we’re paying subscribers! I hope your real life issues are okay.
