China Glaze Spring 2008 – OMG! 2BKEWL

It’s rare that a nail polish collection comes out with so much pre-sale buzz as this OMG! Collection from China Glaze. Now I don’t know if it was part of their marketing scheme but a few lucky MUA members were able to find these beauties prior to release and it certainly drummed up a lot of excitement.

Just as I’m not a sheer girl, I know not everyone is a holo lover. It’s a lot of sparkle and shimmer to pull off and not necessarily appropriate for all occasions. Not that it stops me from wearing them. I can’t help but be mesmerized by my rainbow nails when ever the light hits them. So when I laid my eyes on these colors, I swooned a bit.

The OMG! collection lacquers are all very pigmented and opaque with two coats. They dry to a smooth matte finish so you really need a top coat to make them glossy. Though considering how many people are looking for a matte top coat, you might like these on their own. The images below are without a top coat and to be honest, they are a good but not great color representation. The shades are a bit bolder in person but I think the finish prevented me from capturing that.

Normally I would do individual reviews but I feel the pics speak for themselves. The formula and application is consistent through all the colors; a bit on the thick side but still even. I did end up with a bit of cuticle dragging from OMG but that issue could have been due to rushing between coats.

Tracy Reese for Sally Hansen Salon Spring 2008 Preview

Acclaimed fashion designer Tracy Reese has teamed up with Sally Hansen for the fourth season to create a fashion foward collection of lacquers for the Spring 2008 Salon line.

The shades in this season’s collection mirror the designs seen on the runway at Tracy’s Spring 2008 7th on 6th Fashion Show, pieces that represent mystery, romanticism and ease. Tracy took much of her inspiration from North African prints, colors, and textiles and used these cues to create beautifully structured dresses, coats, and separates. This same palette was then re-interpreted in polish form.

Top Row (l-r): Feverish Rose, Sultry Fuchsia, Sumptuous Petal, Arabian Night
Bottom Row (l-r): Cherry Glaze, Spicy Scarlet, Searing Orange, Tunisian Sand (the shade worn by all the models at the Spring 2008 show)

Full swatches and reviews are in the works but I couldn’t resist sharing a sneek peak at Arabian Nights. It’s a gold flecked grape that immediately caught my attention.

Sally Hansen Salon Nail Lacquer is available at most drug stores and retails for $6 US.

Sally Hansen Color Quick

Glamour’s February issue hit my mailbox today and as I did a quick skim before work I had to pause on the latest Sally Hansen ad. It features a new product due to hit shelves in February, the Color Quick.

Packaged in a pen style applicator, the Color Quick formula contains Panthenol and Vitamins A, C and E to condition nails and a UV protector to keep color fresh and true. Just click it, slick it and go!

Color Quick is available in the following shades: Clear Opal, Sheer Beige, Sheer Pink, Hot Pink, Orange, Red, Blue, and Black ($7.95).

I can’t wait to test these little beauties out. I played with the Yves Saint Laurent nail pen last summer and while the idea is fun, their colors weren’t. All sheers that applied streaky. Let’s hope these are much better. Has anyone tried a pen style polish? How did it apply?

OPI Presents a Paradise of Color: The India Collection for Spring/Summer 2008

Color has the energy to excite, to charm, and to soothe – and the shades of the new India Collection by OPI for Spring/Summer 2008 offer a sunny, high-energy palette for nails and lips.

“There has never been a better, brighter moment for color than now,” explains Suzi Weiss-Fischmann, OPI Executive VP & Artistic Director. “Spring’s fashion palette is filled with rosy pink, magenta, turquoise, yellow (the new ‘it’ shade), tangerine, and geranium red, used as splashes against natural tones and in bold graphic prints. Shades of hot pink, orange, vivid red, and coral on nails are the perfect complement.”

According to Weiss-Fischmann, lighter shades for nails are so right with the season’s alluring, feminine fabrics. She suggests pale opal nails with delicate dresses of flowing chiffon, organza, tulle, and liquid jersey (very romantic on toes during a midnight walk on the beach); and dove grey nails to accessorize spring’s must-have dress, the body-skimming sheath, shown in soft, watercolor tones. Carnation-pink nails enhance fashion details like sheer overlays, tiered skirts, ruffles, and pleats.

“Neutrals, darks, and metallics add sophisticated color to nails and lips,” says Weiss-Fischmann. “Try these shades with fashion’s long, fluid tunics and loosely cut trousers in mineral tones, as well with high-waisted pants and slouchy jackets – including an updated spin on the safari jacket.”

Wide-brimmed hats, brightly colored bangles and clutches, open-toed wedge heels, and India-inspired beading and metallic embroidery are important touches.

The 12 shades for nails from the India Collection by OPI allow you to immerse yourself in the season’s color nirvana:

Get Me to the Taj on Time – I don’t want to miss this pale opal shade!

ElePhantastic Pink – This carnation pink may start a stampede!

I’m Indi-a Mood for Love – And this hot pink is what I lust for!

Lunch at the Delhi – Now serving a luscious shade of coral.

MonSooner or Later – Drench your nails in this deluge of orange-red.

Keys to My Karma – Start your good fortune with this rich red.

Moon Over Mumbai – A romantic shade of soft, moonlit grey.

Yoga-ta Get this Blue! – Make this deep, dark blue your fashion mantra.

Royal Rajah Ruby – Jeweled burgundy befitting a prince’s princess.

Curry Up Don’t Be Late! – This spicy golden metallic simmers with style!

Black Cherry Chutney – Deliciously dark black-red.

Charmed by a Snake – A charming, disarming shade of bronze.

The India Collection Nail Lacquers contain no DBP, Toluene, or Formaldehyde, and each features the exclusive OPI ProWideâ„¢ Brush for the ultimate in application.

Three of the India Collection shades – Lunch at the Delhi, Royal Rajah Ruby, and Charmed by a Snake – are designated as Suzi’s Picks and are also available in coordinating Lip Colour and Lip Liner. OPI Lip Colour has a richer, silkier new formula, developed to wear and last beautifully.

The India Collection by OPI will be available beginning February 6, 2008, at Professional Salons, including Beauty Brands, Beauty First, Dillard’s, JCPenney, Pure Beauty, Regis, Trade Secret, and Ulta, for $8.50 ($9.95 CAN) suggested retail for each Nail Lacquer and $10.00 ($12.50 CAN) suggested retail for each Lip Colour and Lip Liner.
