October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and as important as it is to raise awareness by promoting monthly self exams it’s also essential to support breast cancer research. That’s why I will be showing my support by raising funds for the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. To assist me in my cause, I am asking for your help in two ways.

1. I will be participating in the the Beauty Blog Network’s Comments4ACure campaign for the 3rd straight year. Beginning October 21st through October 23rd every comment made on ALU will raise $1 for the Breast Cancer Research Foundation up to a maximum of $150. It’s that simple. You comment, I donate.

2. Following up the success of last year’s Think Pink – Donate & Win Giveaway I’ve decided to do it again. Last year we raised $625 for a combined contribution of $775 for the BCRF. That’s amazing! This year I’d like to surpass that amount with a goal of $1000. Here’s how it works:

For every $5 you donate to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation using the secure ChipIn widget (below), you receive an entry in the Think Pink – Donate & Win Giveaway. You have from now until October 31st to enter. From the pool of donations I will choose, at random, ONE Grand Prize Winner and TWO Runner Up Winners.

Grand Prize with pink ribbon products sponsored by Estee Lauder, Altru, Aveda, Clinique, China Glaze, DuWop, ELF, Essie, OPI, Prescriptives, Purple Lab, Seche and Twist & Pout and a selection of products from the ALU closet.

Package includes: Aveda Hand Relief, Clinique Lipgloss Key Chain, Estee Lauder Jeweled Pink Ribbon Pin, Prescriptives Pink Ribbon Palette for Cheeks and Eyes, China Glaze One in Three set, DuWop Pink Shimmer Lip Venom, ELF Bubble Gum Pink, Essie Yes We Can, Pink, OPI Pink of Hearts 3, Purple Lab SWAC “Sealed With A Cure” lip gloss, Seche Vite Pink Ribbon Top Coat, Altru Appreciation Incense, Twist & Pout Pink Ribbon Lip Balm, Barielle All Lacquered Up collection, Rescue Beauty Lounge Mismas, Nubar Modern Matte collection, China Glaze Loves You Snow Much collection, China Glaze Summer Days collection, MAC Baby Goth Girl and Seriously Hip, Hard Candy Mr. Wrong and Fishnet, It Cosmetics Nail Love cuticle pen and Ms. Manicure Call Your Buff.

The Think Pink – Donate & Win Winner Is…

DEANNA FROM CALIFORNIA!!!

Congratulations Deanna! You will be receiving a nail polish goodie bag filled with over $300 worth of products.

Thanks to readers like Deanna, I had the honor of donating $625 to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation on behalf of the All Lacquered Up Fanatics. I had high hopes of raising $500 and thanks to all of you, we way outreached that goal. A big hug and kiss to all of you for your generosity.

And because of all your kind and supportive comments during my Comments For A Cure Campaign, All Lacquered Up donated $150 to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.
What a wonderfully successful Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Even during these tough economic times, you came out and showed your support and I can’t thank you enough. I just hope that with all this awareness and fundraising we will have a cure sometime in the near future.

So far, 34 of you have chipped in to raise $460 for the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, which is beyond amazing. Thank you all! I know in this time of economic difficulty, every extra penny means a lot so I appreciate you opening your wallets for this amazing cause. Following up on the success of last year’s Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign, OPI has released Pink Of Hearts 2. They will be making a donation of $25,000 to support Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

“The fight against breast cancer goes on, and so does the commitment of Susan G. Komen for the Cure to help find the cures,” says Suzi Weiss-Fischmann, OPI Executive VP & Artistic Director. “OPI is proud to join with Komen for a second year, with a second shade of Pink of Hearts. It’s our way of opening our hearts to those who are dealing with breast cancer and celebrating those who have survived it.”

The shade, a creamy warm pink, is semi-sheer but buildable to become opaque. What you see below is two coats but with three the whites disappear.

OPI Pink of Hearts 2 retails for $8.50 and is available at professional salons including ULTA, Trade Secret, JC Penney, Beauty Brands and Regis. I found my bottle at the Great Northern Mall Trade Secret if you’re a local Clevelander looking to score one.

Think Pink for BCA – Aveda Hand Relief

Established in 1992, the Estee Lauder Companies’ Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign has distributed nearly 80 million pink ribbons and raised over $30 million for the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.

The Breast Cancer Research Foundation was founded in 1993 by Evelyn H. Lauder as an independent, not-for-profit organization dedicated to funding innovative clinical and translation research. It supports scientists conducting the most advanced and promising breast cancer research with a minimum of 85 cents of each dollar donated going directly to breast cancer research and awareness programs.

As an Estee Lauder Company brand partner, Aveda is selling a limited-edition Breast Cancer Awareness Hand Relief. It comes in a specially packaged 5oz pink ribbon tube for $21 with $4 from each sale going to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.

Aveda Hand Relief is a thick, creamy, lightly scented hand lotion that is ideal for protecting hands from the cold winter chill. It has a slight botanical smell mixed with just a bit of licorice due to the Licorice Root Extract. Packed with soothing, moisturizing ingredients like Aloe Leaf Juice, Glycerin and Meadowfoam Seed Oil, exfoliating fruit acids and anti-oxidants, this lotion really does a number on my beat up hands.

Let’s face it, I’m rough on my hands and nails. With all the polish changing and product testing, they go through a lot. So slathering on a little Hand Relief before slipping on a pair of moisturizing gloves before bed leaves my skin supple and hydrated by morning. This is not a quick absorbing lotion so it’s not exactly something I’d recommend putting on before grabbing the wheel of a car or typing away on your keyboard but after a good 20 minutes you don’t have to worry about leaving lotion filled fingerprints around the home or office.

Aveda’s Breast Cancer Awareness Hand Relief is available now through the end of October in Aveda salons, freestanding stores and online at Aveda.com. BBNBCA
