Morgan Taylor Cinderella Swatches & Review

Morgan Taylor Cinderella

Of all the fairy tale princesses, Cinderella was my favorite as a child. I mean, what little girl wouldn’t love to have a fairy godmother to whip up a ball gown out of scraps with a simple, “Bibbidi bobbidi boo!”  I remember teetering around in a pair of embellished lucite mules I found in my mom’s closet, pretending they were glass slippers. And I still have my Cinderella VHS and Madame Alexander Cinderella dolls, both the ball gown and “poor” versions.

Now Disney is releasing a live action version of Cinderella with Cate Blanchett as the as the evil stepmother and Helena Bonham Carter as the Fairy Godmother and Morgan Taylor has partnered with film on a nail polish collection. Morgan Taylor Cinderella is their Spring 2015 collection and it’s filled with sweet shades, worthy of a princess.

Formula & Application

Morgan Taylor nail polish is 5-Free (Formaldehyde, Toluene, DBP, Formaldehyde Resin, Camphor). The tapered glass bottles have a weighty, substantial feel and the smooth plastic cap has a bit of a curve at the base which rests comfortably between fingers. The brush is long, flat, dense and medium in width. The bristles are firm but can fan out to give good coverage.

Considering the range of finishes in this collection, they all apply a bit differently. I will address that individually below.

Morgan Taylor Best Ball Gown Ever is a periwinkle blue frost with golden shimmer. It has a smooth consistency and needs three coats to become opaque. And because of the metallic pearl in the base, you have to be careful to avoid brush marks.

Morgan Taylor Ella of a Girl is a baby girl pink creme. It has a slightly thick feel when applying and the first two coats had some streaks but with a third, it is perfect.

Morgan Taylor If the Slipper Fits has a sky blue chrome base that is filled with holographic hexagonal glitter. It applies like a frost, with brush marks, but the glitter masks that. I used three coats to get it opaque and, due to the glitter, it does dry bumpy. I was able to make it smooth with a spackle coat of Gelous and a layer of HK Girl Top Coat but that doesn’t create a wet, glossy appearance.

Morgan Taylor My Carriage Awaits is a poppy peach creme. It’s vivid but not in-your-face bright. There is a hint of shimmer in the bottle but it’s not really visible on the nail. Like Ella of a Girl, it has a thicker consistency and applies a bit streaky at first but evens out with three coats.

Morgan Taylor Party at the Palace it a turquoise with golden flecks that add depth and interest. The polish feels creamy but it’s a bit sheer. It needed three coats to become opaque and build up the color but it’s totally worth it.

Morgan Taylor Watch Your Step, Sister! is a hot pink creme. It’s very Barbie Corvette. The consistency and feel is similar to the other cremes in this collection, also requiring three coats.

Bottom Line: You guys know that pink isn’t my jam but I’m all about blues so Party at the Palace and Best Ball Gown Ever are all me, all. day. long. However, even though I’ve become a major Morgan Taylor fangirl, I don’t know that the formula lived up to the high bar the past collections have set. That being said, these colors definitely have a Cinderella feel. You expect her to be surrounded by girly pinks and sweet blues and Morgan Taylor certainly delivered on that.

Whoaaaaaaaaaa @ Best Ball Gown Ever and Party at the Palace, those might be my first Morgan Taylor polishes!

My mom says that when I was little, I would say “bibbidi bobbidi boo” was the magic word, not “please.” /csb

  8. I can’t imagine a turquoise with golden flecks in person, but it sounds dreamy! I am missing a wicked stepmother purple and a cooler-toned pink, but all in all this collection is lovely! I have never worn MT but it looks fantastic, and you gotta love a 5-Free brand.

  9. Lisa Marino says:

The first one is my favorite. I love it!

  10. Pam U says:

While none of these polishes seem to be groundbreaking, I think they represent the movie very well and the collection as a whole is very cohesive. Sorry to hear that they don’t all have that wonderful Morgan Taylor formula we fans have loved thus far – perhaps they will heed your review and make some adjustments prior to release. Thanks, Michelle, for giving us polish-obsessed girl a peek at a line may people don’t even know about yet!

  11. Jessica says:

Party at the Palace and My Carriage Awaits are my favorites. Speaking of childhood memories, I remember being in a little Cinderella “play” in second grade, it was a lot of fun “acting”.

  12. Tanyatopia says:

I have yet to see a metallic, chrome or frost polish with glitter work, but they keep trying! I had such hopes for If The Slipper Fits.

  13. Anna says:

I couldn’t agree more with your favourites. Both those blues are stunning

  14. Brittany says:

I really love these colors and I have spent like the last year pinning over this new Cinderella movie. I just wish these big name companies would partner with more cost affordable brands like Sally Hansen, Sinful Colors, or Wet N Wild. Although, Party at the Palace seriously reminded me of Sinful Colors Cinderella.

I picked 3 up today – Party at the Palace, Best Ball Gown ever, and If The Slipper Fits. Party At The Palace completely won me over! It’s absolutely gorgeous! Best Ball Gown ever is my next fave. It’s not crazy unique or anything, but nonetheless it’s pretty. I’m pretty strictly Indies, but I saw these at Cosmoprof today and had to have them! They really have me debating on get back into some mainstream. God have mercy on my wallet! lol!

    • See, you’re the opposite of me. I’m strictly commercial brands, though there are a few indies that intrigue me. I’m really impressed with Morgan Taylor and you picked some fab colors. Enjoy!
