#Nailgating at Opening Day with a Cleveland Browns Nail Art “Fanicure”

As a lifelong Cleveland Browns fan, my favorite part of the football season is the opening day tailgate. Up until kickoff, our eternal optimism says, “This is our year!” The hope is still alive and we celebrate like no other. The past few years, I’ve missed opening day covering New York Fashion Week. This year, I was NOT skipping out.

And thanks to COVERGIRL’s partnership with the NFL, the last thing I needed to worry about was what to do with my nails. Donning the Cleveland Browns “Fanicure” allowed me to focus on the important things; making pudding shots, prepping monkey bread and packing my Bloody Mary essentials for tailgating. Keep reading to see how it all turned out!

Formula & Application:  COVERGIRL Outlast Nail Gloss is 5-Free (Formaldehyde, DBP, Toluene, Formaldehyde Resin & Camphor) and comes in a square bottle, similar in shape to the Chanel bottles. Like Chanel bottles, the outer black plastic cap is removable, revealing a ribbed, round cap. The brush is round, short and medium in width with flexible bristles that easily fan out.

I raved before about how the wizards in the P&G labs clearly took their time with this formula because it’s outstanding. The consistency of the lacquer is smooth and easy to manipulate. Thanks to the flexible brush, you can get the polish right up to the cuticle with no pooling. It has a bit of squishy-ness in the texture yet it’s SO pigmented. I only needed two coats of all the colors for full coverage, including when I applied Snow Storm over Go-Go Mango.

My only gripe is that it doesn’t easily self-level so you need to apply thin, precise coats. It’s nothing a little top coat won’t cure but this polish was created to be worn sans top coat. And I can attest that it dries nice and glossy on its own but I needed top coat for a perfectly smooth finish.

Using the COVERGIRL designed Cleveland Browns Fanicure as my guide, I started with two coats of COVERGIRL Go-Go Mango, a bright nectarine creme. It’s not a true orange, it has a bit of red to it.

Application Tip: Apply the base color with a bit of space between the cuticle so the orange won’t peek out behind the colors layered on top.

Next, I added a wide stripe of COVERGIRL Snow Storm, a pure white creme, down the middle. You could use tape to make the lines more precise but I opted to free-hand.

Application tip: Wipe your brush well and make your first stroke directly down the middle, working your way to the sides. Drag the brush parallel to the nail in one smooth stroke to create a straight line.

Finally, add a stripe of COVERGIRL Toasted Almond, a cool taupe-y brown, down the middle, leaving just strip of Snow Storm separating it from Go-Go Mango. Let dry for a few minutes before adding top coat to avoid color bleeding.

With my Browns “fanicure” finished I went to work Saturday night, making Cookies n Cream and Banana Fudge pudding shots, prepping monkey bread for breakfast and deciding on what beer and Bloody Mary ingredients to bring for our early morning tailgate.

Our friends, Katrina and “R” know how to throw one hell of a tailgate. Fifteen of us gathered along the lake to mow on Philly cheese steaks, with a bevy of toppings, play giant Jenga, sip Bloody Mary’s and jam out to some classic hip-hop hits. That’s what I call a #SundayFunday. I even wore my Frosty Bar t-shirt under my jersey for the occasion.

Unfortunately, the Browns couldn’t pull out a win against the Dolphins but there’s always next year. That brings our home opener record to 1-14 but I’ll keep on cheering for my Brownies. Cleveland is a football town and I’m a football girl (Indians who?) and even though I have the same thoughts as Cleveland Comedian Mike Polk Jr. when it comes time to renew my season tickets, I do it anyway.

As usual the nails are awesome. I’m not so much of a football fan as I am the snacks and fellowship and I have sported a Miami Dolphins mani myself, but good Lord, please tell me what banana fudge pudding shots are!

    • Michelle Mismas says:

Haha! Pudding shots are all the rage and they’re so easy. You mix 1 package of pudding mix with 1c milk & 3/4c alcohol and fold in an 8oz tub of Cool Whip. For the Banana Fudge I used chocolate fudge pudding and 99 Bananas liquor. The Cookies N Cream use the CnC pudding mix and Pinnacle Whipped vodka.

Try this apple monkey bread alternative – they’re completely delicious! Let them cool in the muffin tins a bit longer than specified to let them glue together a bit better, or they’ll completely fall to pieces, but they’re still SO good.

Great fanicure! I didn’t care for their suggestion for my eagles fanicure, so I will have to come up with something else. I’m pretty sure I’ll never paint anything looking like wings on my nails.

    • Michelle Mismas says:

Yeah, I definitely lucked out with such a simple design. Hand painting anything isn’t going to happen for me.

  4. #steelernation Though I do like your mani ;)
