Nail Tips from an ELLE Beauty Genius

The April Issue of ELLE magazine celebrates beauty with the gorgeous Rachel McAdams gracing their cover, funky pink highlights and all. As part of the ELLE Beauty Genius Awards they interviewed twenty-four of the nation’s best hair, skin and makeup specialists to reveal their best advice and product recommendations. Of course there is a nail expert – Marian Newman.

In the article she reveals her secret weapon, Dr. Hauschka Neem Nail Oil Pen. I’m sure it’s a fine product but for $17.95 I can get a LOT of Creative Solar Oil.

Ms. Newman also discusses the importance of buffing but stresses not to over buff your nails. While buffing gives nails a wonderfully polished look and helps polish adhere better, doing it too often can weaken nails and cause dents. To quote the expert, “You don’t want to create dust, not should you feel heat – both are signs that you’re pressing too hard.” Excellent advice!

Creative Negligee’ is the color featured and it is a great neutral but if you’re looking for something to slap on in a hurry, pass on this one. I love Creative polishes but they take forever to dry and need help from a drying accelerator to avoid dents.

I’m Back and I’m Blue

First, thank you everyone for your support and for continuing to check out my blog. It means so much to me.

Ok, now back to polish. I’m not depressed, just on a blue kick. What a coincidence that I find this article from Life & Style Magazine in my email inbox right after I remove China Glaze Up All Night from my tips. I’ve been really drawn to blues lately and apparently I’m right on trend.
The captions are wrong but the colors are beautiful. I have the Revlon polish as well and it’s much more navy in person. Definitely worth checking out if you can find them. I know the Dark Pleasures colors continue to sell out but they’re worth the hunt. Revlon’s formula has always been superior amongst the drugstore lines and Dark Pleasures does not disappoint.
