<p>As I reported, there was a recall due to a bottle issue but to AA&#8217;s credit they rectified the situation in a timely manner.  Prior to that I was sent a few polishes by the brand for review but I was only into one of the colors.</p>
<p>I&#8217;ve been meaning to hop over to my local American Apparel store to pick up the more &#8220;me&#8221; shades but I really hate the parking sitch in that area so I couldn&#8217;t drag myself over there just for polish until recently.  I know that makes me a bad polish fanatic and believe me, I&#8217;m totally kicking myself for waiting so long.  See why after the jump!</td>

<p><strong><span id="more-2647"></span></strong><br />
I picked up all the colors in this review except Dynasty at my local American Apparel store and when the sales clerk saw my choices she said, &#8220;You picked all the best ones.&#8221; Obviously she has great taste!</p>
<p><strong>Dynasty</strong> is a mid-tone mauve creme. I know a lot of people think of mauve as an old lady color, I used to be one of them but, for some odd reason they&#8217;ve grown on me.  While I don&#8217;t like how red based purples look on me, I love how mauves compliment my skin tone.  Riddle me that!  This was a <strong>three coater</strong> for me.  It went on a bit watery leaving a few patches which is why the third coat was necessary.</p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-2648" title="american apparel dynasty swatch nail polish" src="http://www.alllacqueredup.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/04/american-apparel-dynasty.jpg" alt="american apparel dynasty American Apparel Nail Lacquer Swatches & Review" width="327" height="450" /></p>
<p><strong>Hunter</strong> is the perfect name for this deep green dream that applies flawlessly in <strong>two coats</strong>.  It totally captures that aristocrats hunting in the woods vibe.  I love that it&#8217;s dark without reaching &#8220;almost black&#8221; territory.  It&#8217;s actually a very close dupe for <strong><a href="http://www.alllacqueredup.com/gallery-2/green/show/786">Orly Enchanted Forest</a></strong>.  It would take a very savvy Fanatic to tell them apart.</p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-2657" title="american apparel hunter swatch nail lacquer" src="http://www.alllacqueredup.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/04/american-apparel-hunter-swatch-nail-lacquer.jpg" alt="american apparel hunter swatch nail lacquer American Apparel Nail Lacquer Swatches & Review" width="372" height="450" /></p>
<p><strong>Mount Royal</strong> is not at all what I think of when I hear the word royal.  This blue is darker, slightly grayed with a hint of purple undertone.  As excited as I was about Hunter, I ended up falling harder for Mount Royal.  It dries much darker than the bottle color suggests and I totally dig that. Plus while I have some lighter grayed blues, I don&#8217;t have any quite like this.  Mount Royal is another <strong>two coat</strong> wonder.</p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-2650" title="american apparel mount royal swatch nail polish" src="http://www.alllacqueredup.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/04/american-apparel-mount-royal-swatch-nail-polish.jpg" alt="american apparel mount royal swatch nail polish American Apparel Nail Lacquer Swatches & Review" width="384" height="450" /></p>
<p><strong>Mouse</strong> is a pretty blah taupe-ish neutral.  It seems to be toeing the line between a true taupe and beige.  It&#8217;s not warm enough to be a cafe au lait and on me it just falls flat.  There&#8217;s a reason &#8220;mousy&#8221; is associated with lackluster brown hair and blasé blah people so AA was really setting itself up for a fail in naming this color.  The fact that I needed <strong>three coats</strong> doesn&#8217;t support its case.</p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-2649" title="american-apparel-mouse-swatch-nail-polish" src="http://www.alllacqueredup.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/04/american-apparel-mouse-swatch-nail-polish.jpg" alt="american apparel mouse swatch nail polish American Apparel Nail Lacquer Swatches & Review" width="335" height="450" /></p>
<p>I really wanted <strong>Office </strong>to be a winner.  With the popularity of mint green and so many of them being LE, I was excited to see this as a perm shade in the AA line.  The problem&#8230; application.  It&#8217;s a total <strong>streak-fest</strong>.  What you see below is <strong>three coats</strong> and even though it doesn&#8217;t show, there is major cuticle pull and patchiness.  I would have needed a fourth coat to make this one look perfect and I wasn&#8217;t giving in.</p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-2651" title="american apparel office swatch nail polish" src="http://www.alllacqueredup.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/04/american-apparel-office-swatch-nail-polish.jpg" alt="american apparel office swatch nail polish American Apparel Nail Lacquer Swatches & Review" width="367" height="450" /></p>
<p><strong>Peacock</strong> is gorgeous teal cream that applies like a dream in two medium thick coats.  The hue falls somewhere between two of my fave teals, <a href="http://www.alllacqueredup.com/gallery-2/teal-turquoise-blue-green/show/562"><strong>Illamasqua Muse</strong></a> and <strong><a href="http://www.alllacqueredup.com/gallery-2/teal-turquoise-blue-green/show/843">Rescue Beauty Lounge Teal</a></strong>.  Muse looks muted and slightly grayed next to Peacock.  I really hoped they were dupes as so many people love the look of Muse but hate its price tag.  Though I think that Peacock will satiate your craving for half the price.  I know turquoise is the hot color of the season but I&#8217;m rocking Peacock this weekend when our friends come to town.  It&#8217;s the hotness!</p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-2652" title="american apparel peacock swatch nail polish" src="http://www.alllacqueredup.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/04/american-apparel-peacock-swatch-nail-polish.jpg" alt="american apparel peacock swatch nail polish American Apparel Nail Lacquer Swatches & Review" width="350" height="450" /></p>
<p>Way back when I initially received Dynasty I did a <strong>wear test</strong> that ended up lasting <strong>six days</strong> instead of my regular five because I really like the color.  I wore Dynasty with <strong>Nubar Foundation Base Coat</strong> and <strong>Olan Labs Quick &amp; Slick</strong> and I ended up with quite a bit of tip wear and one noticeable chip on my index finger.  The picture below was taken under artificial light so the color is not accurate.</p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-2653" title="american apparel nail polish wear test" src="http://www.alllacqueredup.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/04/american-apparel-wear-test.jpg" alt="american apparel wear test American Apparel Nail Lacquer Swatches & Review" width="475" height="359" /></p>
<p><strong>Application and Formula:</strong> For the majority of the colors in this line, the magic number is three. Three coats that is. The formula itself is a joy to work with, thin and smooth, though a bit on the sheer side until you get into the darker shades which are perfectly pigmented. The polishes are <strong>3-Free</strong> and do not include Formaldehyde Resin.</p>
<p>Due to the tall bottles the brush handles are pretty long so you have make sure you wipe them well as you pull out the brush or else you&#8217;ll end up with globs of polish falling on your nails. The brush itself is long, thin and very pliable. At first I was put off by the lack of resistance from the bristles but then I realized that it made it easy to create a smooth, sweeping line along my cuticles. The downside is that it doesn&#8217;t spread out well so a three stroke application is out of the question for me.</p>
<p><strong>Bottom Line:</strong> If you know what&#8217;s good for you, you&#8217;ll snag bottles of Peacock and Mount Royal.  If you never got Orly Enchanted Forest, add Hunter to your shopping list.  Office is a total pigmentation fail and gets a &#8220;pass&#8221; from me.  If you&#8217;re into &#8220;old lady mauves&#8221; like me, you&#8217;ll dig Dynasty and unless you get a case of the blahs, leave Mouse on the display.</p>
<p><strong>American Apparel Nail Lacquer</strong> is available at American Apparel stores nationwide and online at <strong><a href="http://redirectingat.com?id=3232X603698&xs=1&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.americanapparel.com%2Faccessories-beauty.html&sref=rss" target="_blank">AmericanApparel.com</a></strong>.  Polishes retail for <strong>$6/ea</strong> or you can purchase 3-packs for <strong>$15</strong>.</p>
<p><strong><em>Have you tried AA polish yet? What are your favorite colors? Are you happy with the formula and brush?</em></strong></p>
<p><strong>Disclosure:</strong> Dynasty was furnished to me by American Apparel for editorial consideration. The rest were purchased by me. For more info view my <strong><a href="http://www.alllacqueredup.com/disclosure-policy" target="_self">Disclosure Policy</a></strong>.</p>

<p>I&#8217;m always a sucker for a great teal creme but add in a charitable cause and I&#8217;m hooked.  I spoke with the founder of Priti, <strong>Kim D&#8217;Amato</strong>, backstage during Fashion Week and I love that she&#8217;s as committed to creating a toxic-free, organic line as she is to including fashion forward colors.  She custom blended an amazing green for eco-friendly fashion line <strong>Bodkin</strong> which you can catch glimpses of in <a href="http://redirectingat.com?id=3232X603698&xs=1&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ecouterre.com%2F843%2Fbodkin-conjures-springsummer-2010-collection-from-air-and-water%2F&sref=rss" target="_blank">Ecouterre&#8217;s</a> photo recap of the show.</p>
<p>Check out <strong>Tulip Tree Teal</strong> and see how it stood up to my <strong>5 Day Wear Test</strong> after the jump!</td>

<p><strong><span id="more-1462"></span></strong><br />
Priti provides a<a href="http://redirectingat.com?id=3232X603698&xs=1&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.pritinyc.com%2F646--Tulip-Tree_p_173.html&sref=rss" target="_blank"> <strong>full ingredient list</strong></a> including ingredient descriptions on their site so I won&#8217;t bother listing it all here but their nail polishes are <a title="Read more about 3 Free" href="http://www.alllacqueredup.com/2007/05/big-3-chemicals-that-is.html" target="_self"><strong>3 Free including Formaldehyde Resin</strong></a>. At .43 fl oz, the bottles a bit smaller than the standard .5 fl oz.  The brush is flat but not wide.  Its width and length are comparable to the new CND brush.  The bristles are dense but soft making application easily controlled.  The formula is slightly thick and well pigmented but doesn&#8217;t completely level itself so careful brush strokes are key.</p>
<p><strong>Tulip Tree Teal</strong> is a mid-tone teal creme.  When I first saw it, I thought here&#8217;s a great <strong><a href="http://www.alllacqueredup.com/2009/05/illamasqua-sirens-collection-muse-nail.html" target="_self">Illamasqua Muse</a></strong> dupe but TTT has more green in its base.  I think, if anything, it&#8217;s the slightly lighter, brighter sister of the teal in <strong><a href="http://www.alllacqueredup.com/2009/09/strangebeautiful-color-volume-3-review.html" target="_self">StrangeBeautiful Vol. 3</a></strong>.  It definitely looks teal in all lighting but isn&#8217;t so bright that you look like you&#8217;re stuck in Summer.</p>
<div id="attachment_1464" class="wp-caption aligncenter" style="width: 360px"><br />
<a href="http://www.alllacqueredup.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/12/priti-tulip-tree-teal-1.jpg"><img class="size-full wp-image-1464 " title="priti-tulip-tree-teal" src="http://www.alllacqueredup.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/12/priti-tulip-tree-teal-1.jpg" alt="priti tulip tree teal 1 Priti Tulip Tree Teal for Ovarian Cancer Awareness" width="350" height="405" /></a><p class="wp-caption-text">Priti Tulip Tree Teal</p></div>
<p>Of course I had to put the formula to my <strong>5 Day Wear Test</strong> and decided to switch up my methodology.  I used combos of a ridge filling base (<strong>butter London Nail Foundation</strong>), a tacky drying base (old formula <strong>CND Stickey</strong>), a thicker quick dry (<strong>Seche Vite</strong>) and a thinner quick dry (<strong>Olan Quick &amp; Slick</strong>) to see whether using a 3-free base/top made a difference.  Apparently it does because the nails with the old CND Stickey formula (middle &amp; pinkie) chipped and showed more wear than the other two.  So I would highly recommend using a 3-Free base coat with Priti.</p>
<div id="attachment_1467" class="wp-caption aligncenter" style="width: 270px"><a href="http://www.alllacqueredup.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/12/priti-5-day-wear-test.jpg"><img class="size-full wp-image-1467 " title="priti-5-day-wear-test" src="http://www.alllacqueredup.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/12/priti-5-day-wear-test.jpg" alt="priti 5 day wear test Priti Tulip Tree Teal for Ovarian Cancer Awareness" width="260" height="400" /></a><p class="wp-caption-text">Priti Five Day Wear Test Results</p></div>
<p><strong>Priti Tulip Tree Teal</strong> retails for <strong>$12.50/ea</strong> on <strong><a href="http://redirectingat.com?id=3232X603698&xs=1&url=http%3A%2F%2Fpritinyc.com&sref=rss" target="_blank">PritiNYC.com</a></strong> with <strong>10%</strong> of the proceeds going to <strong><a href="http://redirectingat.com?id=3232X603698&xs=1&url=http%3A%2F%2Fnancyslist.org%2Fweb%2Findex.php&sref=rss" target="_blank">Nancy&#8217;s List</a></strong>.  Priti sells their own base &amp; top coat as well which I&#8217;m currently testing.</p>

Since my routine changes as I test new products, I&#8217;ve launched, </span><a style="font-style: italic;" href="http://www.alllacqueredup.com/search/label/The%20Arsenal"><span style="font-weight: bold;">The Arsenal</span></a><span style="font-style: italic;">, to share with you the items that are &#8220;must haves&#8221; in my nail kit.</p>
<p></span>For as long as I can remember, <span style="font-weight: bold;">Seche Vite</span> and <span style="font-weight: bold;">Poshe</span> have been staples in my top coat collection. When it comes to quick dry, they are the gold standard BUT (and that&#8217;s a very big &#8220;but&#8221;) the major complaint has always been the thick, tricky-to-apply consistency that only gets thicker as you work your way down the bottle. Sure that&#8217;s what Seche Restore is for but what if there was a product that worked just as well without that issue? Fanatics, I&#8217;ve found it! <span style="font-weight: bold;">Olan Labs Quick &amp; Slick</span>.</p>
<p>My uber-fab eyebrow waxer recommended this top coat to me a while back and I bought a bottle on the spot but let it sit in my to-be-tried box for way too long. I finally cracked it open a couple months ago when I was short on time, low on Seche Vite and not in the mood to add Seche Restore. Well color me impressed!</p>
<p>Quick &amp; Slick is <span style="font-weight: bold;">3-Free</span>, non-yellowing and quick drying. It leaves a high gloss shine and the thin, self-leveling formula applies like a dream I&#8217;m about halfway through my bottle and there&#8217;s not a sign of those telltale strings from thickening when I pull out the brush. In my opinion it&#8217;s pretty comparable to <span style="font-weight: bold;">Lippmann Addicted to Speed</span> except it&#8217;s less than <span style="font-weight: bold;">HALF</span> the price!</p>
<p>You can purchase<span style="font-weight: bold;"> Quick &amp; Slick</span> directly from the <a style="font-weight: bold;" href="http://redirectingat.com?id=3232X603698&xs=1&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.olanlabs.com%2F_e%2Fdept%2F03%2FQuick_Slick.htm&sref=rss">OlanLabs.com</a> website for <span style="font-weight: bold;">$7.95</span>. There&#8217;s even a trial size for $2.95. I&#8217;m sure if you search online you&#8217;ll find other e-tailers but I purchased mine at <a style="font-weight: bold;" href="http://redirectingat.com?id=3232X603698&xs=1&url=http%3A%2F%2Fjohnrobertsspa.com%2F&sref=rss">John Robert&#8217;s Spa</a> in Mayfield Heights. p.s. if you&#8217;re in Cleveland and looking for a waxer/esthetician see my girl Abby. She&#8217;s phenom!</p>
<p><span style="font-style: italic; font-weight: bold;">Have any of you tried Quick &amp; Slick before? What do you think of it? </span></p>

<p></span>I can&#8217;t believe that in the two and a half years I&#8217;ve been writing ALU that I&#8217;ve NEVER mentioned <span style="font-weight: bold;">Icing</span> polishes! If you&#8217;re unfamiliar, Icing is a chain of accessory stores owned by <span style="font-weight: bold;">Claire&#8217;s</span>. I honestly never shopped there until some MUA nail board girls discovered their line of nail polish. They have a wide range of colors and come out with limited edition seasonal collections quite often. AND they&#8217;re pretty cheap. You can usually find them on some kind of sale.</p>
<p>Unfortunately, since we moved a couple years ago I haven&#8217;t had immediate access to an Icing so it&#8217;s been a while since I added to my stash. Obviously I&#8217;m not up on the latest colors but I have a couple of my faves to show you. Check them out!<br /><span id="fullpost"><br />According to my bottles Icing polishes are <span style="font-weight: bold;">3-Free</span> (including Formaldehyde Resin) but I would check the labels before buying, just to be sure. The formula is on the thinner side so even dark colors usually take three coats for even coverage but it flows smoothly on the nail and dries glossy.</p>
<p><span style="font-size:130%;"><span style="font-weight: bold;">Money Talks</span></span> is a blackened forest green shimmer with silver micro-glitter floating throughout. It was packaged in a set a couple holidays back so I&#8217;m not sure if it&#8217;s still able to be found.<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://redirectingat.com?id=3232X603698&xs=1&url=http%3A%2F%2F2.bp.blogspot.com%2F_8D5qVf5VMxs%2FSnHyX5TDDFI%2FAAAAAAAAHlg%2FqeYjWXmfIZQ%2Fs1600-h%2Ficing-claires-money-talks.jpg&sref=rss"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 363px; height: 400px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_8D5qVf5VMxs/SnHyX5TDDFI/AAAAAAAAHlg/qeYjWXmfIZQ/s400/icing-claires-money-talks.jpg" alt="icing claires money talks The ALU Archives Icing by Claires Money Talks & I Married Blue" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5364335123506596946" border="0" title="The ALU Archives Icing by Claires Money Talks & I Married Blue" /></a><span style="font-size:130%;"><span style="font-weight: bold;">I Married Blue</span></span> was an open stock color I picked up during one of their sales. It&#8217;s definitely in the burple family more than navy. It has a pearl/shimmer that looks a bit magenta in the bottle that I attribute to its slight purple leaning.<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://redirectingat.com?id=3232X603698&xs=1&url=http%3A%2F%2F1.bp.blogspot.com%2F_8D5qVf5VMxs%2FSnHyXqvDpoI%2FAAAAAAAAHlY%2FWkH3J2E0i-g%2Fs1600-h%2Ficing-claires-i-married-blue-nail-polish.jpg&sref=rss"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 367px; height: 400px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_8D5qVf5VMxs/SnHyXqvDpoI/AAAAAAAAHlY/WkH3J2E0i-g/s400/icing-claires-i-married-blue-nail-polish.jpg" alt="icing claires i married blue nail polish The ALU Archives Icing by Claires Money Talks & I Married Blue" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5364335119597545090" border="0" title="The ALU Archives Icing by Claires Money Talks & I Married Blue" /></a>I realize the bottles look VERY similar to <span style="font-weight: bold;">China Glaze</span> and I know people have wondered if they&#8217;re by the same company but I think the similarities stop at the bottle shape. Icing polishes are produced in Illinois while China Glaze is based in California.</p>
<p>You can only find <span style="font-weight: bold;">Icing</span> polishes at their stores and this bottle size retails for <span style="font-weight: bold;">$3.50</span> but there&#8217;s usually some kind of deal going on. You find an Icing near you using their <a style="font-weight: bold;" href="http://redirectingat.com?id=3232X603698&xs=1&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.icingbyclaires.com%2Flocator%2Ficing_storelocator.asp&sref=rss">store locator</a>.</p>
<p>Where are my Icing lovers? What are your favorite shades? Seen anything new and fun that I should make the trip out east for?<br /></span></p>

<p><span id="fullpost"><br />I commented briefly on the formula in the shade descriptions yesterday as each polish applies a bit differently. I can finally show you the <span style="font-weight: bold;">All Lacquered Up</span> collection from <span style="font-weight: bold;">Barielle</span>. In case you missed the <a style="font-weight: bold;" href="http://www.alllacqueredup.com/2009/06/coming-soon-all-lacquered-up-collection.html">original announcement</a>, this collection is a collaboration between myself and <span style="font-weight: bold;">Celebrity Manicurist Elle</span>, Creative Director for the <span style="font-weight: bold;">Shades by Barielle</span> line.</p>
<p>We pooled our color inspirations straight from the runway and came up with a palette of shades that are fashion forward yet accessible. They are all very chic and wearable. Check out the first half of the collection after the jump!</td>

<p><span id="fullpost"><br />Collaborating with a nail trendsetter like Elle was such a thrill. With her years of experience working in editorial and alongside more celebrities than you can count, she really has her finger on the pulse of the beauty and fashion world. One trend we noticed was lot of muted, neutral tones with random pops of color, like <span style="font-weight: bold;">Falling Star</span> (below). Based on many phone convos about shades and perusing runway images, Elle custom mixed samples of our collection for the chemists to reproduce.</p>
<p>Now I know some of you commented that you were expecting all kinds of craziness from me and though this is the <span style="font-weight: bold;">All Lacquered Up</span> collection </span><span id="fullpost">it&#8217;s not like I had license to do whatever I wanted. </span><span id="fullpost"><span style="font-weight: bold;">Shades by Barielle</span> is about bringing fashionable shades to the masses so while there is a lot of me in this collection, it&#8217;s as much about being on trend and incorporating Elle&#8217;s color concepts. It&#8217;s a collection I am proud to attach the ALU name to and I hope you&#8217;ll love it as much as I do.</p>
<p><span style="font-size:130%;"><span style="font-weight: bold;">Slate of Affairs</span></span> &#8211; when I was backstage at <span style="font-weight: bold;">Reem Acra</span> with<span style="font-weight: bold;"> Jamie</span> from <a style="font-weight: bold;" href="http://redirectingat.com?id=3232X603698&xs=1&url=http%3A%2F%2Fthebeautyoflifeblog.com%2F&sref=rss">The Beauty of Life</a>, I just about drooled at the site of her luxe designs. I wanted to dive in to the rack of dresses head first. It was her <a style="font-weight: bold;" href="http://redirectingat.com?id=3232X603698&xs=1&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.style.com%2Ffashionshows%2Fcomplete%2Fslideshow%2FF2009RTW-RACRA%3Fevent%3Dshow1922%26amp%3Bdesigner%3Ddesign_house1222%26amp%3Btrend%3D%26amp%3Biphoto%3D13&sref=rss">sandwashed steel blue gown</a> that inspired this shade. A stunning slate blue grey, the polish has a subtle hint of pearl that adds a bit of light blue flash depending on the light. The formula on this one is somewhat jellyish and thick so I used three coats to get it perfect.<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://redirectingat.com?id=3232X603698&xs=1&url=http%3A%2F%2F4.bp.blogspot.com%2F_8D5qVf5VMxs%2FSluJcVi5EaI%2FAAAAAAAAHak%2FuH-hMp_O5zM%2Fs1600-h%2Fbarielle-slate-of-affairs-nail-polish-all-lacquered-up-collection.jpg&sref=rss"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 346px; height: 400px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_8D5qVf5VMxs/SluJcVi5EaI/AAAAAAAAHak/uH-hMp_O5zM/s400/barielle-slate-of-affairs-nail-polish-all-lacquered-up-collection.jpg" alt="barielle slate of affairs nail polish all lacquered up collection The All Lacquered Up Collection from Barielle Part 1" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5358027301600170402" border="0" title="The All Lacquered Up Collection from Barielle Part 1" /></a><br /><span style="font-size:130%;"><span style="font-weight: bold;">Get Mauve-ing</span></span> is based on another <a style="font-weight: bold;" href="http://redirectingat.com?id=3232X603698&xs=1&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.style.com%2Ffashionshows%2Fcomplete%2Fslideshow%2FF2009RTW-RACRA%3Fevent%3Dshow1922%26amp%3Bdesigner%3Ddesign_house1222%26amp%3Btrend%3D%26amp%3Biphoto%3D10&sref=rss">Reem Acra dress</a>. While I&#8217;m not typically one for mauve hues, I was so drawn to the gown&#8217;s shade that I felt it just needed to be in this collection. I had thought of adding gold micro-glitter but it was Elle who felt copper particles would make it truly unique and she was dead on. They look like fiery stars falling from the sky. Application with this one is a bit tricky. The thick jelly like consistency makes this one a three coater for me.<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://redirectingat.com?id=3232X603698&xs=1&url=http%3A%2F%2F2.bp.blogspot.com%2F_8D5qVf5VMxs%2FSluJbtzuqEI%2FAAAAAAAAHaE%2Fheku_43M3QM%2Fs1600-h%2Fbarielle-falling-star-all-lacquered-up-collection-nail-polish.jpg&sref=rss"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 357px; height: 400px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_8D5qVf5VMxs/SluJbtzuqEI/AAAAAAAAHaE/heku_43M3QM/s400/barielle-falling-star-all-lacquered-up-collection-nail-polish.jpg" alt="barielle falling star all lacquered up collection nail polish The All Lacquered Up Collection from Barielle Part 1" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5358027290933372994" border="0" title="The All Lacquered Up Collection from Barielle Part 1" /></a>The <span style="font-weight: bold;">All Lacquered Up</span> collection from <span style="font-weight: bold;">Shades by Barielle</span> will launch in <span style="font-size:130%;"><span style="font-weight: bold;">August</span></span> on <span style="font-size:130%;"><a style="font-weight: bold;" href="http://redirectingat.com?id=3232X603698&xs=1&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.shareasale.com%2Fr.cfm%3Fb%3D151066%26amp%3Bu%3D369041%26amp%3Bm%3D19933%26amp%3Burllink%3D%26amp%3Bafftrack%3D&sref=rss">Barielle.com</a></span>. I must admit I was hesitant because the idea of peeling anything off my nail beds seemed unhealthy but in the name of research I was willing to give it a go.</p>
<p>If you haven&#8217;t seen this brand at your local ULTA yet, Sula is a water-based nail polish that you can remove by peeling. Being water based, it is safe for pregnant women and ideal for those fanatics who are looking for non-toxic nail color. Check out my swatches and full review after the jump!</td>

Both are water based and non-toxic so it is recommended that if you do not use Sula&#8217;s base/top coat, you wear the polish on naked nails.</p>
<p>I wore Modern Mauve for a week to give it a thorough trial run and when my friend Jewels spotted it on me, she of course asked about the brand. I told her it was a peel off polish and her response was, &#8220;like that old school <span style="font-weight: bold;">Bonne Bell</span> peel off polish?&#8221; Let&#8217;s just call this is the grown up version of that.</td>

</table>
<p><span style="font-weight: bold;">Application:</span> To say the polish applies streaky is an understatement. Without the chemicals that make traditional polish flow, you have to be very careful to keep the finish from being lumpy. Even after three coats, Modern Mauve was a bit uneven regardless of using their base coat. The bottle instructs you to <span style="font-weight: bold;">avoid hot water for 3 hours</span> after applying.</p>
<p><span style="font-weight: bold;">Tip:</span> Wait time between coats is essential to avoid severe streaking. The polish dries with a rubberized finish and is completely dry and touchable in minutes.</p>
<p><span style="font-size:130%;"><span style="font-weight: bold;">Modern Mauve</span></span> looks like a pale lilac in the bottle but on the nail it dries darker and more vivid. It&#8217;s very eye catching. For me, it&#8217;s dark enough to avoid my light purple &#8220;alien hand&#8221; syndrome.<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://redirectingat.com?id=3232X603698&xs=1&url=http%3A%2F%2F4.bp.blogspot.com%2F_8D5qVf5VMxs%2FSld3WH5293I%2FAAAAAAAAHYM%2FRCmu5hb0JL8%2Fs1600-h%2Fsula-modern-mauve-paint-peel-polish.jpg&sref=rss"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 310px; height: 400px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_8D5qVf5VMxs/Sld3WH5293I/AAAAAAAAHYM/RCmu5hb0JL8/s400/sula-modern-mauve-paint-peel-polish.jpg" alt="sula modern mauve paint peel polish Sula Paint and Peel Polish Swatches and Review" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5356881503743047538" border="0" title="Sula Paint and Peel Polish Swatches and Review" /></a>The <span style="font-size:130%;"><span style="font-weight: bold;">Metallic Base/Top Coat </span></span>applies milky but dries perfectly clear and doesn&#8217;t alter the polish hue in the slightest. It&#8217;s not so much a metallic as a micro-glitter top coat. The particles are very small pieces of silver glitter that dry smooth. There&#8217;s no gritty texture here.<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://redirectingat.com?id=3232X603698&xs=1&url=http%3A%2F%2F1.bp.blogspot.com%2F_8D5qVf5VMxs%2FSld3WVge_8I%2FAAAAAAAAHYU%2FSFjaLDO3FI0%2Fs1600-h%2Fsula-modern-mauve-paint-peel-polish-metallic-top.jpg&sref=rss"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 296px; height: 400px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_8D5qVf5VMxs/Sld3WVge_8I/AAAAAAAAHYU/SFjaLDO3FI0/s400/sula-modern-mauve-paint-peel-polish-metallic-top.jpg" alt="sula modern mauve paint peel polish metallic top Sula Paint and Peel Polish Swatches and Review" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5356881507394715586" border="0" title="Sula Paint and Peel Polish Swatches and Review" /></a><br />I did a <span style="font-weight: bold;">5 day wear test</span> with Metallic Base/Top on my index and ring fingers and just the polish on the middle and pinkie fingers. As you can see, my middle finger suffered the worst wear. The rubberized finish is mostly to blame. Similar to how <a href="http://www.alllacqueredup.com/2008/12/bling-your-nails-like-beyonce-with-minx.html"><span style="font-weight: bold;">Minx</span></a> start to lift after a couple days, this polish&#8217;s slightly tacky surface snags on things and will start lifting. Otherwise the wear was impressive. I expected it to look much worse after five days.<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://redirectingat.com?id=3232X603698&xs=1&url=http%3A%2F%2F3.bp.blogspot.com%2F_8D5qVf5VMxs%2FSld3Wrf__SI%2FAAAAAAAAHYc%2FSK_UmxMJ_fM%2Fs1600-h%2Fsula-modern-mauve-paint-peel-polish-wear.jpg&sref=rss"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 278px; height: 400px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_8D5qVf5VMxs/Sld3Wrf__SI/AAAAAAAAHYc/SK_UmxMJ_fM/s400/sula-modern-mauve-paint-peel-polish-wear.jpg" alt="sula modern mauve paint peel polish wear Sula Paint and Peel Polish Swatches and Review" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5356881513298263330" border="0" title="Sula Paint and Peel Polish Swatches and Review" /></a><span style="font-weight: bold;">Removal:</span> According to Sula, you can safely peel the polish off your nails. It takes a bit of picking to get the polish started but tears off in decent sized chunks. I&#8217;m sure my fidgety fanatics out there will revel in the removal process.</p>
<p><span style="font-weight: bold;">My experience</span>: I had WAY too many people tell me how easy it was to remove Sula and how it wasn&#8217;t AT ALL damaging to their nails. Though after testing Sula myself I wonder if those people wore the polish for any length of time or were just swatching it for fun. Because when I went to remove the polish after 5 days, I saw <span style="font-weight: bold;">actual pieces of my nail bed rip off</span> and I was left with severely dehydrated tissue. Halfway through removal I used acetone remover and saw no damage to my remaining nails.<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://redirectingat.com?id=3232X603698&xs=1&url=http%3A%2F%2F3.bp.blogspot.com%2F_8D5qVf5VMxs%2FSld3W3QSUvI%2FAAAAAAAAHYk%2FjRk2urvx0ig%2Fs1600-h%2Fsula-paint-peel-polish-wm.jpg&sref=rss"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 278px; height: 350px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_8D5qVf5VMxs/Sld3W3QSUvI/AAAAAAAAHYk/jRk2urvx0ig/s400/sula-paint-peel-polish-wm.jpg" alt="sula paint peel polish wm Sula Paint and Peel Polish Swatches and Review" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5356881516453581554" border="0" title="Sula Paint and Peel Polish Swatches and Review" /></a>Modern Mauve was one of Sula&#8217;s original Paint &amp; Peel shades but now they have 13 additional <a href="http://redirectingat.com?id=3232X603698&xs=1&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.sulabeauty.com%2Fcatalog%2F12%2Fpaint_peel_trend_collection&sref=rss"><span style="font-weight: bold;">Trend Collection</span></a> polishes to choose from.</p>
<p><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://redirectingat.com?id=3232X603698&xs=1&url=http%3A%2F%2F1.bp.blogspot.com%2F_8D5qVf5VMxs%2FSld3XPAXguI%2FAAAAAAAAHYs%2FFWn4hdcW0AA%2Fs1600-h%2Fsula-paint-peel-trend-collection.jpg&sref=rss"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 391px; height: 400px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_8D5qVf5VMxs/Sld3XPAXguI/AAAAAAAAHYs/FWn4hdcW0AA/s400/sula-paint-peel-trend-collection.jpg" alt="sula paint peel trend collection Sula Paint and Peel Polish Swatches and Review" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5356881522829263586" border="0" title="Sula Paint and Peel Polish Swatches and Review" /></a><span style="font-weight: bold;">Final Verdict:</span> Sula is a unique product. It&#8217;s not the first paint &amp; peel polish on the market but it&#8217;s more accessible than other brands I&#8217;ve heard of. It&#8217;s great for fanatics who want fun nails but need a non-toxic polish. It&#8217;s an ideal diversion for people that tend to pick at their cuticles as long as they don&#8217;t leave it on too long. In terms of extended wear, I just HIGHLY recommend removing with a polish remover. I don&#8217;t want to see any of you taking off layers of your nail.</p>
<p><span style="font-weight: bold;">Sula Paint and Peel Nail Polish</span> retails for <span style="font-weight: bold;">$9/ea</span> and is available online at<a style="font-weight: bold;" href="http://redirectingat.com?id=3232X603698&xs=1&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.sulabeauty.com%2F&sref=rss"> SulaBeauty.com</a> and <a style="font-weight: bold;" href="http://redirectingat.com?id=3232X603698&xs=1&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.anthropologie.com%2Fanthro%2Fcatalog%2Fproductdetail.jsp%3F_dyncharset%3DISO-8859-1%26amp%3B_dynSessConf%3D-3964951631225572626%26amp%3Bid%3D993115%26amp%3Bparentid%3DBATH_BODY_MAKEUP%26amp%3BpushId%3DBATH_BODY_MAKEUP%26amp%3BpopId%3DACC_BEAUTY%26amp%3BsortProperties%3D%26amp%3BnavCount%3D5%26amp%3BnavAction%3Dpoppushpush%26amp%3BfromCategoryPage%3Dtrue%26amp%3BselectedProductSize%3D%26amp%3BselectedProductSize1%3D%26amp%3Bcolor%3D060&sref=rss">Anthropologie.com</a> and in stores at <span style="font-weight: bold;">ULTA</span>.</p>
<p>Have any of you tried these polishes yet? What has your experience been? Have you tried other peel off polishes?<br /></span></p>

<p><span id="fullpost"><br />As I&#8217;ve come to expect from bL&#8217;s 3 Free formula, the consistency is on the medium-to-thick side yet the polishes apply very smooth and even, with one noted exception (Muggins). The lacquer dries fast and glossy and even though pulling off the outer square cap can be a struggle, it does make application much easier using just the round inner cap.</p>
<p>You saw <span style="font-size:130%;"><span style="font-weight: bold;">Artful Dodger</span></span> on me when I discussed <a style="font-weight: bold;" href="http://www.alllacqueredup.com/2009/06/get-look-miley-cyrus-nails-at-mtv-movie.html">Miley Cyrus&#8217; nails</a>. She went on to rave about its amazingness so of course I had to get my hands on it.</p>
<p>Because I do so much swatching for ALU I only have time to do a full manicure about once a week and it&#8217;s usually on the weekends. So this past weekend I decided to give Berry Blue and go and Elle was right, it&#8217;s incredibly gorg.</p>
<p>Check it out along with its China Glaze cousin, after the jump!</td>

<p><span style="font-size:130%;"><span style="font-weight: bold;">Berry Blue</span></span> is a smooth as butter navy creme. On the first coat you can see a bit of OPI Glacier Bay Blues tealishness but after the second coat it&#8217;s a deep and pure blue. It does lean towards that blue-black territory when you&#8217;re not in day/sunlight but for the most part you can always tells it&#8217;s blue.<br /><span id="fullpost"><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://redirectingat.com?id=3232X603698&xs=1&url=http%3A%2F%2F3.bp.blogspot.com%2F_8D5qVf5VMxs%2FSi_RN5aqAzI%2FAAAAAAAAHEE%2FvHQWDhlguX4%2Fs1600-h%2Fbarielle-berry-blue-shades-nail-polish.jpg&sref=rss"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 370px; height: 400px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_8D5qVf5VMxs/Si_RN5aqAzI/AAAAAAAAHEE/vHQWDhlguX4/s400/barielle-berry-blue-shades-nail-polish.jpg" alt="barielle berry blue shades nail polish NOTD Barielle Berry Blue" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5345721319393198898" border="0" title="NOTD Barielle Berry Blue" /></a>China Glaze Calypso Blue from the Bahama Blues collection is Berry Blues closest living relative. The main difference is that CB dries a bit darker. It would take a fanatic to tell the difference so if you already own CB you probably don&#8217;t need Berry Blue but I&#8217;m not giving away my bottle any time soon!<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://redirectingat.com?id=3232X603698&xs=1&url=http%3A%2F%2F2.bp.blogspot.com%2F_8D5qVf5VMxs%2FSi_U-Z0zYUI%2FAAAAAAAAHEM%2F567Q28eGryg%2Fs1600-h%2Fbarielle-berry-blue-china-glaze-calypso-blue.jpg&sref=rss"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 348px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_8D5qVf5VMxs/Si_U-Z0zYUI/AAAAAAAAHEM/567Q28eGryg/s400/barielle-berry-blue-china-glaze-calypso-blue.jpg" alt="barielle berry blue china glaze calypso blue NOTD Barielle Berry Blue" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5345725451261403458" border="0" title="NOTD Barielle Berry Blue" /></a><br /><span style="font-weight: bold;">Berry Blue</span> retails for <span style="font-weight: bold;">$8</span> on <a style="font-weight: bold;" href="http://redirectingat.com?id=3232X603698&xs=1&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.shareasale.com%2Fr.cfm%3FB%3D151066%26amp%3BU%3D369041%26amp%3BM%3D19933&sref=rss">Barielle.com</a> and their ongoing <span style="font-weight: bold;">Buy Two Get One Free</span> promotion means you can get three polishes for a little over $5/ea.
