Choose Your Own Style Adventure with the Revlon + ELLE Personal Style Experience

Were you a fan of Choose Your Own Adventure books as a child? Last winter, I went on a scavenger hunt in my parents’ basement and dug up my beloved Sweet Valley High books and some of my fave CYOA books. One was an off brand version about an aspiring model who, at one point, had to choose between a job in Europe and staying with her boyfriend. What’s a girl to do?

If you were the kind of CYOA reader I was, you re-read the book until you discovered every possible option so you could create your perfect story. Well, Revlon and ELLE have teamed up to create a grown-up fashion and beauty version of CYOA with The Personal Style Experience.

The Personal Style Experience on Revlon’s Facebook page is an interactive video that asks you to make beauty, fashion and lifestyle choices to help select your “Style Personality.” I’m not gonna lie, my overly obsessive self has played this A LOT to see all the different results (though I can’t seem to get Daring). Which is great because I don’t feel like my style falls into one specific category. I consider myself a chameleon and this type of game plays right into that.

For us nail girls, it includes options like “a party nail” or “matching lips & tips” and in the end you get fashion and product recommendations based on your style, like the new Revlon® Brilliant Strength™ Nail Enamel in Mesmerize. It’s no secret that I’m all about bold blues at the moment and this vibrant cyan creme feeds that frenzy. Better yet, the Brilliant Strength formula has base & top coat built in so it dries to a high gloss shine.

Now head on over to The Personal Style Experience for a fun little break in your day and tell me what your current “Style Personality” is. If anyone gets Daring, you NEED to tell me what products were recommended. It’s going to drive me nuts not to know!

Rescue Beauty Lounge “The Real Housewives Of The Tudor Dynasty” Swatches & Review

rescue-beauty-lounge-fall-2010-collection-bottles THE REAL HOUSEWIVES OF THE TUDOR DYNASTY INSPIRE A BROCADE-HUED NAIL POLISH COLLECTION FROM RESCUE BEAUTY.

The opulent fabrics, quiet luxury and return of ladylike fashions brought to mind the British Royal family to Rescue Beauty Lounge’s Ji Baek. No, not the current resident of Buckingham Palace but the colorful (and often short-lived) wives of Henry the VIII.

Known for her flawless, full-coverage cremes, for Fall 2010 Ji Baek infused opulent multi-dimensional shimmer with rich, heavily pigmented hues. The result, a collection worthy of even the most royal of fingertips.

I’m personally not well schooled on the history of The House of Tudor, outside of my love for the Showtime series.  Though given the popularity of The Tudors and recent series finale, this collection, with its strong fashion driven edge, is very timely.

China Glaze Vintage Vixen “Cat’s Meow” Swatches & Review

china glaze Vintage Vixen cat's meow six piece set In spite of the fact that women were called “dames” and “broads” there’s something about the 1940′s that intrigues me.  I wouldn’t want to live in that time but I’m completely fascinated by the style and beauty of that era.  The pin curls, the heavily powdered and made up faces, the structured clothes.  Women put so much work into their look.

Though what the ladies of the 40′s seriously missed out on is nail color.  As we all know, there is more to life than blood red talons. Thankfully when China Glaze looked to the 40s for inspiration, they pulled shades from all aspects of that decade to bring us the colorful Cat’s Meow set from the Vintage Vixen collection.

Deborah Lippmann Fall 2010 – Across The Universe & Bad Romance Swatches & Review

deborah-lippmann-across-the-universe-bad-romance-nordstrom There ain’t no party like a glitter party cuz a glitter party don’t stop!

Are you ready to kick off the holiday weekend with a blingasm?  I know I am!!  I told you back in February that for the second half of 2010 Deborah Lippmann is hosting a glitter spectacular and it all starts with her Fall 2010 collection.

I’ve always been a lukewarm Beatles fan.  I own a few albums but I don’t live and die for them.  Then the movie musical Across The Universe came out and I was smitten.  Who knew Jim Sturgess could belt it out?

The dreamy, mermaid-esque blue glitter baring the same name is a perfect fit for the trippy, lullaby sounding tune and the whimsical film.  Meanwhile the black-based magenta glitter, Bad Romance, is both hard-edge and feminine much like Lady Gaga.

CND Monday – Experimenting With Girlie Pink

alu-cnd-monday-girlie-pink-lavender-pearl Welcome to CND Monday, a regular series here on ALU. On each CND Monday I’ll be sharing a new layering combination from CND Colour & Effects to show you the versatility and creativity of the line.

Recently a reader emailed me asking about some of the lighter shades in the CND Colour range.  After seeing my comparison of China Glaze Something Sweet & CND Tutu she was interested in finding additional opaque, cool-toned pinks in the CND lineup.

Even though pinks aren’t necessarily my bag I’m happy to oblige reader requests when I can.  Though unfortunately for this particular reader there aren’t any colors lighter than Tutu that are cool and opaque.  Instead I went one step darker and pulled out Girlie Pink and some coordinating Effects to play with.
