ALU NYFW NOTD Challenge – FW 2010 Day 2

Day 2 of my NYFW experience started relatively late (noon). Knowing my usual travel patterns, I purposely left Saturday morning free so I could sleep in and catch up on the rest I missed while packing for NYC.

Since I had time for a full manicure (no matte polish needed today), I opted for NARS Purple Rain from the Spring collection that is inspired by Catherine Deneuve’s role as Lucille in La Chamade.  You know how I love a purple and I have to say this is one of the best colors NARS has put out in a while.

When I first saw the promo pic I thought there was no way this polish could live up to it.  We all know the story, vibrant under flash, almost black everywhere else.  I’m happy to say that Purple Rain surpassed my expectations.  Is it the blue-based purple we were teased with on their site?  No, it’s more of a red-grape but the metallic shimmer really gives it something special.  Literally everyone who looked at my nails that day asked about the polish and when I say everyone I mean other brands too.

FYI, being in NYC is so outside my normal swatching element that it’s throwing me off my game in terms of photography so know that this pic was taken in my hotel bathroom meaning it’s not 100% accurate.

NARS Purple Rain retails for $16/ea and is currently out of stock on the NARS website but I found it online at Bloomingdales.com and Sephora.com.  You can also check with your local NARS counters and Sephora stores.

What’s on your nails today?  Have you checked out Purple Rain yet?  Is purple still in fashion or totally out?

My Addition to OPI Alice In Wonderland – A Cheshire Cat Franken

opi alice wonderland cheshire cat franken My Addition to OPI Alice In Wonderland A Cheshire Cat FrankenAfter I posted my swatches of the OPI Alice in Wonderland collection, I couldn’t get the thought of a Cheshire Cat inspired polish out of my head.

You may have missed that in the comments section but I suggested a pink and purple glitter to represent the Cheshire Cat.  I know in the upcoming film the cat won’t be colored like the Disney animated version but it still sounded like a fun concept.  So over the weekend I dug through my stash and came up with my Cheshire Cat franken to accompany the collection.  Check it out!

China Glaze Up & Away Swatches, Review & Comparisons – Part 1

china glaze up and away collection spring 2010 202x300 China Glaze Up & Away Swatches, Review & Comparisons Part 1I don’t know about you but after this train wreck of a year, I could use some mood lifters to kick off 2010 and the Up & Away collection from China Glaze fits the bill.

I try to keep ALU positive so I haven’t really shared the disaster that was 2009 for me.  Professionally it’s been a dream year, personally a train wreck. I really won’t get into the deets but can we all hope for a happy 2010??  I’m gearing up wearing the fun, uplifting shades from Up & Away, a collection of creamy pastels and bright pops of color.

I’m breaking the collection up into three parts so I can show you color comparisons for each shade.  With 12 colors, that would be one LONG post so I broke it up to make it easier to digest.  Let’s kick this party off with the purples and yellows.  Check them out!

China Glaze Wizard of Ooh Ahz Swatches, Comparisons & Review

china-glaze-wizard-of-ooh-ahz-dorothy-whoThe highly anticipated Wizard of Ooh Ahz collection is finally here.  After a lot of nail board begging, petitions and pleas the people at China Glaze listened and brought back the famed 2001 collection including the much talked about but rarely seen Dorothy Who?, Good Witch? and C-C-Courage.I’ve been fortunate to have owned, or seen in person, all the original WOOA polishes but most have not been as lucky, even the people AT China Glaze.  Thanks to the help of original WOOA owners, like myself, the brand attempted to re-create the collection and they’ve come pretty close for what they had to work with.  Check out the 2009 version of these beauties and see how they stack up against the originals (that I still own), after the jump!
