Jelly polishes are fan faves, not just for their lucite looks and build-able coverage but also for their usefulness in layering and nail art. I had a great time experimenting with different syrup gradient combinations and glitter jelly sandwich looks. Keep reading to see what I came up with.

As much as I love loud, “notice me” nail color, I have moments where I just want something neutral, effortless and clean. This past weekend, I had one of those moments. It was a lazy, no plans kind of weekend. The boyfriend has been working like a dog throughout tax season (which is almost over, yay!) so we kept it low key.

Even though no one would see it, I still wanted something new on my nails so I turned to my current neutral nail look of choice, which I call the “Subtle Sparkle.” I’ve been living for China Glaze Champagne Kisses for months now but it can be a bit much on its own. Paired with my perfect not-quite-naked nail color, L’Oreal Paris Colour Riche So Chic!, it makes for one stunning manicure.

Okay, so I’ve never been one of those people who tears pages from magazines or uses the clever reminder tabs that come with Lucky when I see something I like. Instead, I’m the one who saves decades of magazines and then has to ransack them looking for that one thing, I saw that one time, that I now want, but can’t remember the name of. Brilliant system, eh?
Fortunately, there’s Pinterest and it’s been a revelation, and a giant time suck, for me. I credit Pinterest with changing my mind about nail art. Not gonna lie, I’d been drinking the nail art hatorade. When nail art took off, a lot of what I saw was too over-the-top for my taste. Seeing tons of it roll by on Pinterest has warmed my heart, though I prefer the simpler, more geometric designs. It also helped me find amazing nail art bloggers like Chalkboard Nails and Lucy’s Stash.

Over the past year I’ve been collecting nail art designs on Pinterest that I want to try someday. Well, today is that someday. I’m going to attempt to recreate my fave nail art looks in this new series PinspiratioNAIL. I’ll put my spin on an image I find on Pinterest. My first look is a Fishtail Manicure using the new L’Oréal Paris Versailles Romance nail polish collection.

*tap tap tap* Is this thing on??
Hey kids! I’m back from my way-too-long hiatus. Did you miss me? Because I really missed you. Like really really missed you! I know my absence has upset some of you and, believe me, that wasn’t my intent. Just know that it was necessary. To those of you who have sent emails, tweets and comments sharing your love and support, I can’t thank you enough. You are THE BEST!
As this post goes live I’m actually en route to NYC for New York Fashion Week. I’ll be reporting from backstage on all the fun nail happenings at the Spring 2013 shows. But don’t worry my pets, I have posts lined up so you’ll get your dose of new nail polish reviews in addition to NYFW updates.
While I was on break, L’Oréal Paris asked me to be a part of an ambassador program for their Colour Riche Nail line and guest blog for La Sélection, a digital magazine. One of the posts is a tutorial for a sponged ombré manicure. Ombré hair is so big right now, why not take the look to your nails? It’s so easy and fun.
I chose a summery, sunset inspired color palette for my tutorial but with Fall quickly approaching gray and purple felt more appropriate for NYFW. Starting with a base of Essie Pilates Hottie from the Yogaga collection, I sponged L’Oréal Paris Colour Riche Nail in Greycian Goddess and Paprazzi Pleaser on top to create this look. For the full tutorial visit La Sélection.
L’Oreal Paris Colour Riche Nail is available at mass retailers nationwide and retails for $5.99/ea for a .39oz bottle.
So are you into this ombre look? Have you tried this technique before? What colors, nail styles, trends are you loving right now? What is the one shade for fall you are obsessed with?
Disclosure: As part of the L’Oreal Paris ambassador program I received samples of Colour Riche Nail products. All opinions and statements are my own.

365 of Untrieds is my personal challenge to weed through the polishes in the ALU stash that I’ve been wanting to try but just haven’t gotten around to.
I only own one bottle of L’Oreal Paris nail polish and it didn’t come in to my collection until this past spring. Why is that? For starters, their core lineup of colors are so the opposite of me (pinks, reds, neutrals) that I never give it a second glance. Second, when I do happen to see some more fun colors, they usually resemble something I’ve seen somewhere else. I’m looking at you Passport to Paradise, aka Essie North Fork dupes.
However, L’Oreal Blue Marine caught my eye on the seasonal makeup display shelf because of the duo-chrome promise made by a flash of blue-violet in the bottle. Let’s see if it delivered on that promise, shall we? |
