Chanel Summer 2015

When I caught a glimpse of the Chanel Summer 2015 nail polish colors, I couldn’t wait to get my hands on them to share with you all. It’s common knowledge that I can’t resist a blue or purple, and will never have enough (hoarder!), so my friends at Chanel obliged my need. The Mediterranean-inspired collection includes four new shades of Chanel Le Vernis in bold bright hues and a shimmering, bronzed chocolate.

Formula & Application

Chanel Le Vernis is 5-Free (free of DBP, Toluene, Formaldehyde, Formaldehyde Resin and Camphor). The signature square glass bottles are topped with a black square outer cap that is removed to reveal a stubby, round, ribbed inner cap. The brush is round, medium in length and width and reminds me of the old OPI brushes. It is very flexible, giving the ability to get at every corner of the nail.

The three brights in this collection have a squishy, jelly-ish texture that self-levels. The pigmentation is on point, delivering full coverage in two coats, with Méditerranée closing in on one-coat wonder territory. The lone shimmer, Terrana, is thin and not as pigmented as the others. I needed three coats to achieve bottle color, and due to the pearly shimmer it can suffer from a slight case of brush stroke-itis.

Swatches

Chanel Coquelicot is a tomato red creme. It dries a little darker than I expected. In the bottle, it looks a lot like OPI Fashion A Bow, which is now my least favorite polish in the world because I accidentally dropped it and caused a crime scene splatter under my desk. #nailbloggerfail However, Fashion A Bow is more cherry and such a thinly pigmented jelly that it needs 4-5 coats to even come close to Coquelicot.

Chanel Lavanda is a vivid, red-tinged violet creme, like a violet on steroids. It’s not that Lavanda is super bright, it’s more intense, though not quite as intense as OPI Do You Have This Color In Stock-holm. Lavanda is definitely more saturated than Orly Charged Up and SpaRitual Illume, which are similar in tone, but not opacity.

Chanel Méditerranée is described as an “ocean blue” which is a pretty accurate depiction. It’s decidedly blue, but with a hint of teal.  What’s interesting is that it dries a bit muted, like murky seawater. Sally Hansen New Wave Blue has a similar feel, only much more teal in hue. I really have nothing like this, and I’ve been wearing it for a few days and getting compliments from everyone who has seen it.

Chanel Terrana is a milk chocolate shimmer that has a bronze-y undertone. However, unlike most browns in this range, the silvery pearl keeps it from being too warm. In the bottle, it looks like a fine satin fabric. Next to Essie Sable Collar and Dior Lemon Balm, it appears more brown. Plus, both have a greyed cast that dulls the finish. Chanel Haute Chocolate is really nothing like Terrana, I just threw it in for those that might be curious.

Bottom Line: Every single one of these brights is a winner. The formula is fantastic, the color pops. I can’t pick a favorite, they’re all that good. Just kidding, Méditerranée gets my vote, duh. Terrana is pretty, but the pigmentation isn’t the best, and for $27, it should be. I know Chanel is not in everyone’s budget, but if it’s in yours, you won’t regret indulging in this collection.

The Chanel Summer 2015 nail polish colors officially launch in May 2015 but, if your counter is anything like mine, it will be out before then. You can find Chanel Makeup at Chanel Boutiques and counters nationwide and online at Chanel.com, Nordstrom.com, and SaksFifthAvenue.com. Chanel Le Vernis retails for $27/ea for a .4oz bottle.

***Edited to Add: Thanks to Johanna for pointing out that Macys.com already has the collection online. Woot!

What do you think of these new colors from Chanel? Which ones will you add to your collection? What would you like to see next from the brand?

They look nice and its always so helpful to see comparisons to other colors too.

  2. Lou says:

Is it wrong that I want all of them? Gah. Hurry up and get into my local store!

  3. Viktoria says:

I’m in love with this. This is the first Chanel collection in 2 years that makes me so thrilled!

  4. Jessica says:

Is Lavanda similar to OPI I Carol About You but without the shimmer?

  5. Cat says:

Hi Michelle, thanks so much for doing these comparison posts where you show your readers the polishes side by side on the nail sticks! They are so helpful. By the way, I also once dropped a black and white matte glitter polish on my tile floor — of course it shattered and glitter was splattered everywhere. And, you KNOW these polishes dry quickly, so there was no cleaning it up. If you think glitter removal is difficult from the nail, just wait until it is spread out over a 3-foot area on the floor! I call that polish my $150 bottle of polish because that’s how much it cost to professionally clean and re-finish my floor (the actual polish was a Maybelline Color Show for about $2 or $3. Yes, I replaced it!!!)

  6. Grace says:

Hi Michelle! I was wondering if Lavanda might be very similar to China Glaze Grape Pop? I know that CG GP is similar to Orly Charged Up but with better opacity – but I didn’t know if that was too many degrees removed to consider CG GP or OPI Funkey Dunkey as similar to Lavanda. My best guess is that both of those might be slightly darker than Lavanda, but I wanted to know what you think.

  7. Deanna says:

These colors are beautiful. I so enjoy your blog, thanks

  8. Alyson says:

Pretty, but for my money, none of these colors are unique or special enough to warrant the $27 price tag.

  9. Lorraine says:

Coquelicot is reminding me of Deborah Lippmann Footloose. I don’t have many tomato reds, maybe I will go for it. I think Terrana and Mediterranee are lovely, as well. Is Terrana buttery smooth? I don’t see even a trace of a brushstroke there, and that is good news!

  10. These are all pretty gorgeous. I like how Coquelicot is a tomato creme but still cooler than the other brands. Cool reds are my fave, but every time I go for one that looks true red it appears as oxblood on my nail. Lavanda is calling my name!

  11. Ann says:

I was wondering but how close is Coquelicot to Chanel’s Phenix and Rouge Rubis? Also Lavanda to Opi’s Lost My Bikini in Molokini? Thank you so much!

  12. I love Coquelicot, but I’m a sucker for reds. I still don’t own a Chanel polish. Should this be my first one? what was your first Chanel and what color do you recommend? Thanks for sharing this review Michelle!

  13. I totally thought I could pass on these until I saw your swatches! *shakes fist*

  14. Beady says:

Lovely swatches! I wonder how Terrana comparisons to Dior 886 (New World Violet/Aztec Chocolate). One of my all time favourites.

  15. Michelle says:

THANK YOU for the comparisons, they’re the best! I’m the kind of person who keeps buying the same color over and over (well, at least I’m consistent?), so these are hugely helpful.

  16. Elizabeth says:

I haven’t gotten excited about a Chanel collection in several years. This doesn’t look like something I’d get excited over, but I am.

  17. Carol says:

is Lavanda similar to Dior’s Ultraviolet? thanks in advance!

  18. Vera says:

I was meandering around Macy’s during my lunch break and came upon Mediterrane’ and had, I mean, HAD to have it. The CHANEL sales clerk said that they were only give 3-bottles, and history shows that they’ll be gone soon. Can’t wait to put it on!

  19. Karo says:

    I love your swatches <3

  20. Rose says:

Is Zoya Talia a dupe for Chanel Mediterranee? I love your swatches! You are the best! Thanks!
