Essie Spring 2015 – Flowerista

I couldn’t be more thrilled to see one of my favorite accessory designers, Rebecca Minkoff, working with one of my favorite nail polish brands. The Essie Spring 2015 Flowerista collection is the first one Minkoff had a hand in, and I’m already loving this partnership. Bright saturated shades are mixed with more neutral hues for a nice juxtaposition between bold and subdued.

Formula & Application

Essie nail polish is 3-Free (Formaldehyde, Toluene, DBP). The square bottles are embossed with the Essie logo and the smooth plastic caps include an embossed ‘e’ on top. Bottles at mass retailers have stickers rather than embossing on the bottle. The brushes are thin, round and shorter than most. The bristles are very flexible, allowing you to easily fan out the brush to cover your nail width.

This collection has that typical Essie formulation; watery, thin, easy to manipulate. The pigmentation is better in some colors than other,s with the three darker shades becoming opaque in two coats, and the rest getting it done in three. They all self-level and dry with a glossy finish.

Essie Blossom Dandy is a minty aqua creme. It leans more blue than green, as evidenced below when compared to Essie Mint Candy Apple.

Essie Flowerista is a rich reddish plum creme. It’s so pigmented you can almost get away with one coat. I didn’t have much to compare Flowerista with as I own nothing quite like it.

Essie Garden Variety is a vivid blue/teal. It has an undercurrent of green but not enough to enter seawater territory. I love how vibrant it is and that, bonus, it doesn’t stain! As you can see, it has a similar depth of color as China Glaze Wait N Sea, except Garden Variety is slightly more green.

Essie Perennial Chic is a peachy nude creme. I like how smooth and pigmented it is, being such a light color. There’s no chalkiness here. The other polishes I have in this range are more pink (Essie Spin The Bottle) and more greyed (JINsoon Nostalgia) in comparison.

Essie Petal Pushers is a described by Essie as a smoky stone rose and I get that looking at this color. It’s a grey creme, but with strong blue/purple undertones that set it apart. It’s totally original.

Essie Picked Perfect is a warm tan creme. It has a nutty feel with a bit of pink. It’s a lighter, creamier Essie Cocoa Karma.

Bottom Line: I’ve been so excited for this collection and it did not disappoint. Normally, a floral theme would have me yawning, but I’m into the mix of colors, especially Flowerista and Garden Variety. The will look amazing paired together. And since my love of grey knows no bounds, I’m geeked to have a new variation in my collection. If you adore grey too, do not miss out on Petal Pushers. Finally, as a pale girl, I have trouble finding flattering nudes but Perennial Chic is a good one. I really have no complaints with any of these polishes.

The Essie Spring 2015 Flowerista collection is available now at salons and mass retailers nationwide. You can find it online at Nordstrom.com, Target.com and ULTA.com. Essie nail polish retails for $8.50/ea. For more info, visit Essie.com.
