7 Marsala Nail Polishes You Can Get Right Now!

Marsala Nail Polish

A browned wine shade, Pantone’s Color of the Year for 2015 is Marsala. It’s so 90s, like Brenda Walsh’s lipstick on 90210. And given that we have similar coloring, I wore the heck out of it myself. In fact, I recently discovered an old tube of Estee Lauder marsala-colored lipstick at the bottom of backpack purse, buried in a trunk with some things from college. Yes, I said backpack purse. It was green suede and I wore it everywhere!

Longtime readers know that I host a March Madness-style nail polish battle for the Color of the Year, last year it was Radiant Orchid Madness. I will be doing that again with Marsala but if you just can’t wait to get this color on your digits, I have seven permanent nail polish colors you can get right now!

  1. Fifth Avenue is gorgeousssssss. I love that these are all still available!

  2. I had I Knead Sour-Dough in my post too! Great shade.

  3. Jessica says:

Free Form Fawn is my favorite, that is just so creamy and gorgeous!

  4. Amber says:

Thanks for the great options! I adore that OPI shade.

  5. Chrissy says:

I JUST got I Knead Sour-Dough last week, thanks to reading the archives here on your site. I am so addicted to nail polish now and you have definitely helped with my new-found obsession! Thank you, I love seeing the swatches and I’ve picked up lots of tricks from you. People think I’ve had my nails done and are shocked when I tell them I did them myself! Thank you for this blog, I love it!

  6. Lisa N. says:

    There all so nice!

  7. Retrodiva says:

I love that OPI – is that a micro glitter?

  8. Eugenia says:

I need some of those Zoya ones!

  9. Debbie says:

I have OPI I knead sourdough and Zoya Kate, and both are very flattering on my pale skin. Marsala lipstick is so 90s but on nails I think it is classic.

  10. Ashley Clevenger says:

    Hi Michelle,
I am having the hsrd ed t time actually determining what is Marsala and what is not. I’m probably over thinking it. Are you familiar with Haze of Love by Wet and Wild? Would you consider this Marsala? Thanks for the post. It is very helpful.

    • Hi Ashley! Everyone’s interpretation of Marsala will be different. I’ve seen some sites show examples of Marsala polish that look much darker, more red/berry, etc. I think any browned red will work and while I don’t have Haze of Love, swatch pics I’ve seen look pretty Marsala to me.

    • Claire says:

Ashley, I own Haze of Love, and IMO, it definitely has enough brown tones to consider it a “marsala”-esque shade. Like Michelle said, it’s really all up to an individual’s perception of the color :)

  11. MarciaF says:

I LOVE that CND polish. I think I need this. They wear so well and that color is special.

  12. Samantha Bradley says:

I have ChGl Hey Doll, but that’s it for the ones you posted. OPI I Knead Sour Dough is one I’ve been eyeing for awhile now so I will get that. That said, I have another Marsala for you: Zoya Pepper. And thanks to your post, I will now put on a marsala polish.

  13. Phyrra says:

Personally I’m not a marsala fan but I love seeing your swatches :)

  14. Bailey says:

Those cream finishes are calling my name!

  15. So many beautiful shades, I can’t decide which I want more!

  16. I have a couple in my arsenal (not listed here) to rock. What jumps to mind is OPI Bogota Blackberry or OPI NYPD Beet.

  17. kel says:

i am apparently not into this color at all, at least for my nails. i think its the brown undertones, which don’t appeal to me.

  18. DEBBIE BELL says:

Michelle…I love the color of the year..so different from last year..& I love you have for us some right now!!! All are gorgeous…but the OPI I knead sour dough just made me swoon & I ordered so fast..lol…Thank you for free shipping code too! Hugs..Deb:) xox

  19. mjo says:

What about KB Shimmer “Men are from Mars-ala”? :)

  20. Haha! Brenda Walsh. That must be what’s holding me back from loving this shade. I’m not ready for the 90′s rewind yet, but I guess the rest of the world is?

  21. Sue Berg says:

I nipped right out and bought “Fifth Avenue.” Haven’t done the mani yet, but in the sunlight it looks almost like a terracotta shade. More orange-y than I expected, but still pretty. Thanks for the recommendations!

  22. Delphi says:

Funny. I just finished polishing my nails with China Glaze’s Seduce Me. After two shiny coats, I realized I was wearing the color of the year!

  23. Just scored OPI Color to Diner For for $3.00 at TJ Maxx in NYC, and I think this is closer to the Marsala trend. I really have no idea but it seems like a brown-toned red. I’m going for it!

  24. Claire says:

I’m still on the fence about this color, too, but your swatches are gorgeous! Personally, I have WetnWild Megalast “Undercover” in my untrieds, and it’s a bit more pinky/mauve, but close enough for me LOL

  25. Icy says:

I really like I Knead Sourdough. I feel like that’s the best shade of this color but that’s me.

  26. lori dee says:

Hi Michelle..I am new to your site. You do a beautiful job o your nails! Can you help me locate OPI NYPD Beet..or My Auntie Drinks Chianti? Appreciate your help !..Lori

    • Hi Lori! I’m so glad you found me. Welcome! I wish I could be of more help but I think you best bet is going to be eBay. They’re such old colors, that the only other place that might have them is an older nail salon. I found a rare color on a wall and asked if they’d sell the used bottle. Got it for $3!
