New COVERGIRL Outlast Nail Gloss

Unless you are living under a rock, you’ve seen the new COVERGIRL ads with Katy Perry for the COVERGIRL Full Lash Bloom Mascara. Between the television commercials, magazine placements and drugstore displays you can’t miss it. On a recent trip to Bed, Bath and Beyond I spotted a display with three new COVERGIRL Outlast nail polish shades. The duo-chrome pigments immediately caught my eye so, of course, they all came home with me.

Formula & Application

COVERGIRL Outlast Nail Gloss is 5-Free (Formaldehyde, Toluene, DBP, Formaldehyde Resin, Camphor). The square glass bottle resemble Chanel and while older bottles include a removable cap, it is stationary on these three. I don’t know if that’s a change in general or specific to this set. The brush is round, short and medium in width with flexible bristles that easily fan out.

The lacquer consistency with all three is watery and lacking in pigmentation. I ended up using three thin coats with each color. I found that, when I tried a heavier hand, the polish would pool at the tips. That being said, the polish was easy to manipulate on the nail, creating a clean line at the cuticle.

COVERGIRL Emerald Blaze is a black-based, moss green shimmer with a burnished red flash. The dark base makes the color a bit muddled yet it adds dimension, as though there is a film masking the hue.

COVERGIRL Fuchsia Flame is a hot purple-pink shimmer with bright pink and red micro-flecks. It’s the most vibrant shade of the set and has that lit-from-within quality. This one has the least duo-chrome look of the three, though you can see the burgundy flash in the bottle.

COVERGIRL Teal On Fire is similar to Emerald Blaze in that is has a blackened base but this teal shimmer with violet flash doesn’t feel as muted. The duo-chrome effect is more visible on the nail than with the other shades and you can really see it in the bottle.

Bottom Line: I’ve been wearing Teal on Fire quite a bit lately, in spite of any application challenges. It’s really gorgeous and my fave of the three colors. Fuchsia Flame is fun and vivid and a total mood-lifter. Though, as much as I love greens, Emerald Blaze falls a bit flat.

These new COVERGIRL Outlast Nail Gloss shades can be found on seasonal displays in drugstores and mass retailers nationwide and online at Drugstore.com. They retail for $5.99 on Drugstore.com but I picked them up for $4.79 in store.

Have you spotted these new COVERGIRL colors in store? Are you tempted to try any of them?

Nice swatches of these new colors!

Hi Michelle! Oh, thanks so much for doing this review. I pass by the Cover Girl displays a couple times a week when I’m grocery shopping, and I always think I should try their nail polish. I’ve been using various CG makeup products since I was a teen and first began wearing makeup (… a long time ago!!!), but after your review, I think I’ll save my money for other drugstore brands whose quality seems a little better. But I still love my CG products — does anyone else miss Marathon Mascara like I do????

  3. Lisa says:

This shades are amazing, don’t know which one I would choose. ♡

  4. KarenD says:

I bought them all but haven’t tried them yet. I’ve seen these three in a couple different displays, as well as in a big display with three other new colors (not as eye catching as these three).

  5. All the COVERGIRL Outlast bottles I have (Mint Mojito, Go-Go Mango, Eternal Oceans) are the kind where the large square cap is the only cap. They don’t have a smaller round cap inside. I have enough colors that look like Fuchsia Flame, but I don’t have any that look like Emerald Blaze or Teal on Fire. Nevertheless I am not excited enough to give them a try unless I see them for a deep discount.

  6. Deanna says:

Oh my gosh , you have the most beautiful nails and hands. All of the polishes are beautiful on you. Love your blogs.

  7. Tanyatopia says:

I nearly grabbed the green one but it looked like the poor man’s OPI Green on the Runway so I passed. Could you do a comparison or are they not even close?

  8. Sue Berg says:

Your description and those pics of Emerald Blaze – well, I must have it!

  9. riley says:

I did not have good luck with this polish. I had tip wear within three HOURS of my manicure. Love the color, but not the wear.

  10. Misty says:

I have to admit, I was very disappointed with Teal on Fire on my nails. In the bottle, it looks amazing but none of that transferred to my nails. :( It looks a lot like several other watery blackish “duochromes” that I own (I’m thinking a couple by Sally Hansen and maybe an Essie one, can’t think of the name).

i have been waiting to see swatches of these. i spotted these a few weeks ago (on display with lip lavas), and wanted all three!! i rarely like CG, the hunger games polish was the first thing i’ve ever purchased from them, except a clear mascara in high school. i love pinks and teals, but i’m sure i don’t need them. the emerald one i’m really loving; i don’t have too many colors like it. the only thing that stopped me from purchasing them immediately was the duochrome finish. i wasn’t sure if it was visible, and if the formula was good. the colors are so brilliant in person, i might have to get them all anyway!! :D
