China Glaze Holiday 2014 – Twinkle

This holiday season, China Glaze is having one heck of a glitter party with six of the twelve shades in their Twinkle collection delivering the sparkle. And they are definitely stepping out of the traditional red, green and gold box with unique shades of blue, plum and black in the mix.

Formula & Application

China Glaze nail polish is 3-Free (Formaldehyde, Toluene, DBP). The tapered cylindrical bottle has a similarly tapered cap made of textured plastic that is comfortable to hold though not easy to grip if your cap gets stuck. If that happens, grab a rubber band.

The thin, round brush is both medium in length and firmness with enough give to allow for ease of control. Given my love of thin brushes, it’s no wonder China Glaze is on my list of Top 10 Nail Polish Brushes.

Given the variety of finishes and degrees of opacity in this collection, I will address application in each color review below.

China Glaze Dancing & Prancing is a clear-based multi-colored, multi-sized hex glitter. This one benefits from my Dab, Dip and Glide glitter application technique to get even coverage. This is two coats over I’d Melt For You.

China Glaze December To Remember is a crystal blue filled with light pink shimmer and foil flecks. It has a wintry Northern Lights feel. This one is a bit thin and watery so I needed three coats to get it opaque.

China Glaze Define Good is a rich cranberry shimmer. Like, December To Remember it has a watery feel but the pigmentation is good, requiring just two coats. The only thing you have to be careful of it brush marks.

China Glaze De-Light is a clear-based gold multi-sized hex glitter peppered with holographic bar glitter. It’s best used as a top coat though the dense micro-glitter can be built up with enough layers. This is one heavy-handed coat over Tip Your Hat.

China Glaze Feeling Twinkly is a bright blue micro-glitter with a very slightly tinted base. It’s not tinted enough to build opacity though so even after three coats, it’s relatively sheer.

China Glaze I’d Melt For You is a high shine chrome silver. It is very similar to OPI Push & Shove and, therefore, applies best to a bare nail. Though the pinkie finger is over my go-to Nubar Foundation Base Coat and while it was streaky on the first coat, the second evened it out.

China Glaze Meet Me Under The Stars has a sheer black jelly base filled with graphite and holographic micro-glitter. It builds up relatively fast. You could get away with two generous coats but I used three thin ones.

China Glaze No Peeking is a dusty, mauve-y, plummy shimmer. The pearly finish can lend to brush strokes so careful application is required. The pigmentation is solid so I got away with two coats.

China Glaze Pine-ing For Glitter is an emerald green glitter, though unlike Feeling Twinkly, it has larger hex glitters which makes it harder to build coverage. This is three coats so it’s best used over other colors.

The last three shades, Tip Your Hat (seen above), Out Like A Light (dark grey creme) and Chillin’ With My Snow-mies (white multi-sized glitter) all appeared in my Snowflake Sideways French nail art tutorial.

Bottom Line: The look of the blue and green glitters, in the bottle, had me so excited for full coverage, possibly a glass-fleck finish, that it threw me for a loop with this collection. There was so much potential there. That being said, I’m seriously digging on Meet Me Under The Stars, December To Remember and No Peeking! Also, if you missed out on Push & Shove, I’d Melt For You is fab.

The China Glaze Holiday 2014 Twinkle collection is available at salons and mass retailers nationwide, including ULTA and Sally Beauty and online at ULTA.com and Amazon.com. China Glaze retails for $7.50/ea.

Are we loving Twinkle? Which shades are you drawn to? What’s your all-time fave China Glaze holiday color? Mine… Emerald Sparkle, of course!

Some great colors in this collection. Wonderful swatches of them.

  2. Katie says:

On my screen, December to Remember looks a lot like Butter London’s Victoriana, only with a subtle touch of pink. Nice for Winter.

Thanks for reviewing the whole collection! I’d Melt For You is going on the list, since I did miss out on Push & Shove. How does it wear though? As I recall, P&S started chipping after a few hours, and that was even with using the special base coat. Does I’d Melt For You last longer? Also, would you recommend a top coat on it, or no?

    • Hi Carrie! I haven’t worn it for an extended period time so I can’t really speak to the wear. Though, without base coat or top coat it won’t last as long. You certainly can put a top coat on it. I have and it doesn’t streak or ruin the finish.

I like Meet Me Under the Stars and Feeling Twinkly. Not sure about the rest of the shades. Gorgeous swatches, as always, and now I’m off to check out that tutorial!

  5. Multi-color confetti glitter over silver?! Why have I never thought of this before? Beautiful job.

  6. I love all of them! I’m going to my local beauty supply store and buying all of them. The OPI and essie winter/holiday collections were both kind of blah but this one by China Glaze is gorgeous!!! Thanks for the beautiful swatches and review!

Not gonna lie, classic red always is a fave holiday go to. But one of my all time faves is China Glaze Party Hearty! Sinful came out with a look alike last year, Holiday Rebel, that kicked it up a notch with some holographic glitter added to the mix :) last year I wore Sinful Last Chance, a gorgeous dark green (which unfortunately stained my nails) and China Glaze Winter Holly. Interestingly, in this collection, I’m really digging No Peeking,

Got December to Remember, I love it! It’s a holiday look without being traditional. This is a nice collection.

Meet Me Under The Stars… wowsers! Can’t help myself, it’s definitely heading to join my stash… and No Peeking? Might be worth a sneaky little look! Beautiful ‘durple’(dirty purple!) vibe going on, but I’m a bit concerned that with my not-so-great mani technique it might go a bit stroke-y… The others? A bit disappointing… I agree, if only the look in the bottles had made it to the nails… I already have enough twinkly topcoats, thanks! But Meet Me Under The Stars is a complete standout for me, so thanks – I’m loving your work, babes!
