butter LONDON Fall 2014 – Brick Lane

Inspired by the street art and ethnic influence of London’s Brick Lane market area, the butter LONDON Fall 2014 color range is filled with a diverse range of shades and textures. Everything from creme to shimmer to foil and texture all brought together in one melting pot of a collection.

Formula & Application

butter LONDON nail polish is 5-Free (Formaldehyde, Toluene, DBP, Formaldehyde Resin, Camphor). The square glass bottles are topped with a chunky, square plastic outer cap that easily slides off to reveal a ribbed, round inner cap used for polishing. The brush is thin and round with flexible bristles that easily fan out to cover the nail.

I received the Brick Lane set which includes “Fashion Size” bottles that are half the size of the standard bL bottle. While they are smaller in size, the brush is not, which is great for application.

In spite of the collection being comprised of a range of finishes, they are all smooth and well pigmented, which is a treat. The yellow is the only three coat color in the bunch but that’s to be expected of yellows. On the plus side, it’s not streaky and self leveling. The rest of the shades are all shown with two coats.

butter LONDON Bric-A-Brac is a warm, red, jelly-based sparkler packed with golden foil flecks. It has that lit from within or fireflies type look and reminds me of a OPI holiday shade, though the name is escaping me at the moment. Thoughts?

butter LONDON Brick Lane is burnished orange creme with just the slightest hint of pearl shimmer. It’s still essentially a creme as the shimmer only shows up in direct light.

butter LONDON Chocka (set exclusive) is a bruised, purple-tinged inky charcoal shimmer. It’s moody and hard to describe. The bottle alludes to it being more purple than it dries on the nail. It’s pretty dark, bordering on “almost-black” territory.

butter LONDON Cor Blimey is a vivid grape with reddish, glowing shimmer. It dries with a satin finish, as you can see here, but comes alive with top coat.

butter LONDON Dubs is a rosy nude sparkling texture with chunky hex glitter. It looks like crushed rose diamonds on the nail and, even though my love of texture is fading, this type of twinkling sand still grabs my attention.

butter LONDON East End (set exclusive) is a mustard yellow creme. As I mentioned above, the application is solid, for a yellow. Always have to qualify that with yellows.

Bottom Line: As I mentioned in my post about the semi-annual ULTA bL sale, Bric-A-Brac, Cor Blimey and Dubs are my faves from this collection. Thankfully, they are sold separately so you have the option to pick up just one or get them as part of the collection Fashion Size set. If all the colors appeal to you, I suggest getting the set as you get six shades for the price of 3 full-size polishes, and it’s the same amount of lacquer.

butter LONDON Fall 2014 Brick Lane collection is available now at Nordstrom and ULTA stores nationwide and online at butterLONDON.com, Nordstrom.com, and Sephora.com. butter LONDON nail polish retails for $15/ea for a .4oz bottle and the Brick Lane set retails for $45 for six .2oz “Fashion Size” polishes.

Which of the Brick Lane colors are calling your name? Do you prefer the full-size or “fashion size” bL polishes?

Some nice colors and finishes in this collection.

  2. Melissa says:

How does “Dubs” compare to OPI “Silent Stars Go By”? I’m trying to figure out if I can justify owning both. ;)

  3. Jammies says:

I love Bric-a-Brac, but I’m glad I got the Steampunk Ball set instead of this one, because that orange would be very unkind to my skin tone! :)

  4. Phyrra says:

Cor Blimey is a must have purple!

  5. Rach says:

After seeing this post, I am soooooooo glad I sprung for the full 6-pc set when bL had a 30% online code last month! TOTALLY WORTH IT. :D The only one I’m not wild about is Chocka, but I do wish East End would become a core shade. It’s an amazing yellow.

  6. kel says:

    i like that east end!

  7. POW Nails says:

I genuinely love all of these, especially the orange and the purple! What a fab collection

  8. GORGEOUS!!! Dubs grabs my attention at first. Your description is perfect – crushed rose gold diamonds! Brick Lane is also eye-catching. Such a unique color. Love these! Thanks for sharing. Your swatches are impeccable.

  9. Hannah says:

I think the red is a little like OPI Smitten with Mittens?

  10. Al says:

Bric-A-Brac kind of reminds me of OPI The Spy Who Loved Me. I believe that was a holiday LE shade.

  11. Bailey says:

I like the idea of Fashion Size since I have so many polishes (wait, is that even possible?) but, Dubs is the only shade I love here, so I’m going to need to full size!

  12. Lesley says:

Brick Lane has my eye there, for sure. That’s a great shade of orange. Cor Blimey is the other one I’d be likely to pick up. I really like your swatch of Chocka, but it might be just a little too dark in regular circumstances.

  13. Sarah says:

I know it’s a year later…but I just found this entire set at Marshall’s for $7.99!! What an amazing value. Thanks to your wonderful swatches I knew they were clear winners.
