Peanuts by OPI for Halloween 2014

Like a lot of kids of the 80s, I grew up watching It’s The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown every year. I’ve always had an affinity for Peanuts, especially Lucy, Shroeder and Snoopy. And if you’re also an Arrested Development fan, you fangirled out when George Michael took his sullen, “Charlie Brown” head-down walks.

Though, truth be told, Halloween is actually my least favorite holiday. For some reason, it has always creeped me out. Which is why I don’t normally post about Halloween collections but I’m making a huge exception because, PEANUTS!! The Peanuts by OPI collection is actually making me excited for Halloween. This set of four nail polish shades pays homage to the classic comic and its most iconic characters.

The Story

Peanuts by OPI brings to life Charles M. Schulz’s comic strip characters for Halloween 2014. Inspired by “It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown,” the four new limited edition nail lacquer shades include seasonal yellow and black crèmes, as well as two black-based glitter hues.

‘It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown’ is a classic, beloved film,” explains Suzi Weiss-Fischmann, OPI Co-Founder & Brand Ambassador. “Peanuts by OPI celebrates the fun, youthful nature of Charlie Brown, Lucy, Linus and Snoopy with four limited edition nail lacquer shades designed to capture the spirit of Halloween. With two crème and two glitter options, you can switch between a cheery yellow or chic black look, or try adding a layer of glitter for a unique finish.”

The Collection

OPI Good Grief! – The sunny yellow of Charlie Brown’s favorite t-shirt.

OPI To Be or Not To Beagle – Snoopy’s happy-dance of colors in a joyful glitter.

OPI Where’s My Blanket??? – Linus awaits the Great Pumpkin in this orange and black glitter.

OPI WHO ARE YOU CALLING BOSSY?!? – This stormy black is no match for Lucy’s raven hair.

Each of the four shades is also available in the Little Peanuts mini pack, which is sold with ten nail decals ranging from popular Peanuts phrases like “Good Grief!” and “Pow!” to sketches of Snoopy and the signature squiggle of Charlie Brown’s shirt.

“These stickers offer a playful, kitschy way to add instant art to nails,” adds Weiss-Fischmann. “My favorite decal pays tribute to Snoopy’s many kisses – ‘Smak!’”

OPI Little Peanuts Minis

I don’t know about you guys, but when I first looked at To Be or Not To Beagle, I thought the glitters were actually printed with the faces of the Peanuts gang. My mind is clearly playing tricks on me but it really looked like Lucy’s face at the bottom.

The cremes may not be the most unique but they fit with the theme and the glitters represent the colors of Peanuts and The Great Pumpkin beautifully. And I will definitely pick up the minis just to get the nail stickers. Commence ULTA stalking!

The Peanuts by OPI collection launches September 2014 at salons nationwide, including ULTA and ULTA.com. OPI nail polish retails for $9.50/ea for a .5oz bottle. The Little Peanuts mini set retails for $13.95. Visit OPI.com for more info.

Are you as excited as I am to see OPI partner with Peanuts? Do you think this means there are more collections to come? Do you plan to pick up any of these polishes?

I have loved Peanuts since I was a little girl, and still do. As has been happening the last couple of years, I was thrilled to see this unique partnership, and wholly disappointed when I saw the collection (as I was with Muppets, Mariah, Alice in Wonderland, Minnie Mouse). So much potential and yet OPI continues to make narrow choices with boring colors and too many glitters. Landing this worldwide famous brand with generations of fans, and they yellow, black and two black-based gilitters? Good Grief!
What about Linus’s blue blanket instead of a glitter? Snoopy’s red doghouse? Sally’s pink dress? Schroeder’s brown piano? Great pumpkin orange? A clever light brown matte with flecks called Pig Pen? Gone are the days when the first thing I look for in my InStyle is the OPI ad. :( Please, please OPI, dig a little deeper and start producing more exciting collections. I miss those days.

    • You were disappointed with Alice and the holiday Muppets?? I loved them both. I mean, Absolutely Alice and Mad As A Hatter are stars.

Though I do agree that the Peanuts collection is not what it could be, it’s also a Halloween collection. They always make Halloween small. I’m hoping that by making this deal, there is a larger, more character driven collection in the future. I also know that the Schultz family is very protective of the brand so who knows how much room OPI was given to play.

  5. Kellie says:

Not really feeling this collection. I don’t see anything special. But, I may change my mind once I see swatches.

    • That’s fair. I just really like it because it’s Peanuts and the glitters are fun. I would love to see a separate Peanuts collection with colors based on all the characters.

  6. allthepretties says:

This collection is so cute! I might have to get the mini pack.

I love Halloween. My birthday is only a few days before it. Plus, it’s kind of the beginning of the “holiday season” if you think about it!

  7. Mallory says:

This is awesome!!! I can’t wait. Though I do agree, it would’ve been cool to see some more colors! No Great Pumpkin references? Boo!

  8. kel says:

  11. Abbi says:

Really hoping Good Grief! Can be added to your list of perfect yellows! I was hoping for a “Lucy with a Blue Dress On”!

  12. Erin says:

Yay! I love the mini pack. “And if you’re also an Arrested Development fan, you fangirled out when George Michael took his sullen, “Charlie Brown” head-down walks.”<—totally me!

  13. Valerie C. says:

Fun collection for Halloween and I really love Peanuts too! I’d love to see Peanuts collections for winter, spring and summer too :)

  14. Bird says:

I will totally get the mini set. I adore Peanuts.

  15. Melanie says:

I love Halloween, but I despise dressing up. I think getting this mani will cure that problem :) Especially because it’s got the decals. I fudge my costume with this unique mani!

  16. Eh, it’s a cute display but none of the colors seem to be that unique. I’m more interested in the decals. I hope they get sold separately.

    • I doubt the decals will be sold on their own. They usually include that info in the press release, if that’s the case, and I haven’t read anything about that.

  17. Medusa says:

Halloween is my absolute favorite holiday! I’m not crazy about “Peanuts” but I would probably buy the mini pack. I’m very curious to see how “To Be Or Not To Beagle” looks over “WHO ARE YOU CALLING BOSSY?!?” I hope you can swatch that look! P.S. Great comment from SusyS!

  18. Kelley Staunton says:

Is this collection sold out already? I know this launched in September but I am not able to find it anywhere on Ulta.com and this makes me sad!
