L’Oreal Punchy Lychee and Rimmel BritPop

This bright dotticure was inspired by the little girls who live on my street. A couple of them like to pop by when the boyfriend and I are dining on our deck and they’ve become fascinated with my nail polish room and constantly changing manicures. In fact, one held her arms out wide and declared, “Your obsession is this big,” when looking into my office. She’s totally right, ha!

Anyway, last night they came over and I invited them in to see all the Helmer drawers of color, swatch wheels and random nonsense in my room. And together, they decided that my nails needed polka dots in these two colors so I went with it. The 4-year-old who LOVES pink, as most little girls do, was adamant that this new L’Oreal Colour Riche shade go on my nails.

I used the L’Oreal Neons shade, Punchy Lychee, with Rimmel LONDON Salon Pro shade, BritPop, for the dots. And even though Punchy Lychee is more orange-coral than pink-coral, as the bottle color inferred, I love this combo and may need to consult with them from now on. I mean, I have the same taste in music as the 10-year-old, so, why not?

What’s on your nails today? Have you tried the L’Oreal Neons or new Rimmel Salon Pro formula?

I grew up spending many a night in car lots with my parents on our way home from eating out. My dad loved wandering through the rows of cars, with no pressure from salesmen, to check out the latest releases. And even though he has to own a van for work, the man loves American muscle cars. He used to fix up and drag race them before I was born.

I guess it’s no surprise that my first serious boyfriend was also into muscle cars, specifically the Ford Mustang (he owned a ’87 Fastback). Thanks to him and my dad, I know way more about the car than I should. For that reason, I was excited to see what the OPI Mustang collaboration, celebrating the Mustang’s 50th Anniversary, would bring us.

I heard rumblings a while back about a Christian Louboutin nail polish and considering the popularity of the Louboutin Manicure back in 2007, I’m amazed it didn’t happen earlier. Well, last week the news finally broke of the Christian Louboutin Beauté brand and its first signature nail color, Christian Louboutin Rouge Louboutin, with its hefty $50 price tag.

At $50, Rouge Louboutin, with its claim of superior pigmentation and hand crafted bottles, certainly isn’t the most expensive luxury lacquer we’ve seen. Azature’s one-of-a-kind Black Diamond was valued at $250,000. More recently, Mine Lacquer, made from real raw materials, like 24k gold, silver and graphite, retails for anywhere between $100-$500/bottle. Not to mention other luxury fashion brands, like Louis Vuitton, who have released LE polishes with high end price tags.

Now, I’m the last person to judge how you spend your money. We all have different budgets and outlooks on what is worth our dollar. That’s the reason I cover brands in a range of price points.

But, is there a limit where the price becomes too high? Are there really enough people paying $50, $250 or more for a bottle of nail polish to sustain a brand? I’d love to hear your thoughts on this.

And, if you want to get in on the Louboutin Rouge craze and add that fine looking bottle to your vanity, it’s available for pre-order at Nordstrom.com, Saks.com and NeimanMarcus.com. Releasing on August 6th it will be at Sephora.com as well, with 30 additional shades launching August 30th.

Too Faced Cat Eyes Palette Tutorial

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, I love, love, love palettes. They’re probably my favorite makeup item to buy as I appreciate when brands take the guesswork out of creating a great eye look. The new Too Faced Cat Eyes Palette is an excellent example. Bringing together six silky shadows and three wet/dry shadows that can be used as liners, Too Faced combined three of my fave eye shades, purple, brown and navy, with mint and jet black to create one extremely versatile palette. In this week’s Makeup Wars, we are taking on the Cat Eyes Palette, with each member creating their own signature look. When I put together my list of current Favorite Top Coats, many of you requested to hear about the Best Base Coats in my arsenal. I actually have more top coats than base coats and that’s because I tend to stick with my tried and true faves.
