Happy Mani Monday/St. Patrick’s Day! I don’t know about you guys but my weekend was made a whole lot better by the release of the Veronica Mars movie.

As a Kickstarter backer of the film, I’ve been not-so-patiently waiting for the return of this modern day Nancy Drew since last March. Though really, since it went off the air in 2007.

On Friday, I received my digital download of the movie and hosted a watch party with my fellow Marshmallows. I may or may not have watched it four times since then.

To celebrate the release of the film and in hopes that it does well enough to spawn sequels, I have a VMars-inspired manicure that, naturally, incorporates Essie Marshmallow. I mean, how could it not??

Watch Party

Watching the movie at my house meant we wouldn’t annoy anyone with our reactions. And while I normally want to throat punch anyone who dares to whisper in a theater, I made an exception since I could re-watch any dialogue missed.

Now what’s a movie night without snacks? And there had to be Veronica Mars themed snacks, of course. From #TeamPiz Pizzelles (I’m actually #TeamLoPiz because I can’t choose), to sundaes with #Marshmallow fluff and Spirit Box Snickerdoodles we had more than enough sugar to keep us up for back-to-back viewings.

And since I promised no spoilers, I’ll just say that the movie really delivered. Rob Thomas clearly wrote this movie for the fans with little nods to the 4th Season that never came, the Kickstarter campaign, etc. But he also made sure to include just enough back story to allow VMars newbies to feel included.

ps. If, like me, you loved Logan’s voicemail greetings, watch all the credits. I missed it the first two times.

Also, while I’m not even close to being on #TeamDick, Ryan Hansen looks better than ever (so unfair how guys age like that) which puts me firmly on #TeamRyan (sorry Jason and Chris, cuz I know you care).

Anyway, let’s get to the nails. I knew Essie Marshmallow had to be part of the picture but I wasn’t sure how. As a nail art neophyte, I needed something simple to tackle. I looked to the stickers that came with my Kickstarter Backer t-shirt and the Mars Investigations logo seemed easy enough. I decided to mix that in with Spirit Box Snickerdoodle-colored nails.

I started with a base of OPI My Vampire Is Buff ($9, ULTA.com), to represent the sugar cookie, and Essie Marshmallow ($8.50, Nordstrom.com) for my logo background.

To get the right rolled-in-cinnamon-sugar look, I applied a super thin coat of China Glaze I Herd That ($4.55, Amazon.com). The mix of gold, bronze and red micro-glitters give that snickerdoodle feel.

Finally, I used both the Sally Hansen I Heart Nail Art Pen ($5.99, ULTA.com) and Striper Polish ($3.99, ULTA.com) in black to create the logo. Rolling my finger under the brush, made it easier to keep the lines straight. The only downside of the pen is that I had to draw the triangle twice to get it jet black and opaque.

So, Marshmallows, who saw Veronica Mars? Did you watch at home or in the theater? What to you think of my themed nail art? What colors would you use to create a snickerdoodle nail color?

Great to hear that the movie delivered! Nice mani too.

  2. Inka says:

Aaah, totally fangirling! I too am a backer but couldn’t get the digital download as an international backer :-( So jealous! Got the stickers and the t-shirt though! Love the nail art-especially the snickerdoodle one

  3. amanda says:

This is quite amazing. I never would have thought to do the Mars Investigations logo! Job well done.

  4. kirsty says:

Aah, I love this! Saw the movie yesterday, it really did deliver. Most of the boys grew up rather handsome! #teamPercyDaggsIII tbh ;)

  5. Gaming Nails says:

I saw it the second it was available to me;which was during the early morning hours (hello 4AM, we used to be friends…) No mani prepared though, so I went with my go-to dark polish; a-England Lancelot. Super excited about the movie, re-watched it twice since :)

  6. Jay says:

Oh my god! I just watched it last night AND I CANNOT WAIT UNTIL ITS RELEASED ON BLU RAY BECAUSE I WILL BUY ALL THE COPIESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Sorry, had to get that out. It was definitely geared towards marshmallows – the amount of throwback almost made my neck hurt BUT I JUST COULD NOT GET ENOUGH. I also initiated my BFF into the VMars world since she “hates Kristen Bell” – NOT ANYMORE SHE DOESN’T!!!!! Also, I loved all the dark nail polishes she wore in the movie. And I missed the voicemails :(

    • Michelle Mismas says:

Hahaha, I LOVE your enthusiasm. I’m going to buy it on Blu Ray as well. Just because. And how awesome that you turned your friend around on KBell. I think she’s adorable and I love her and Dax together.

  7. Amy says:

Ahhhh!!! I Love this and am totally in Squee mode! I absolutely love the Mars Investigation logo (and was a little peeved US backers couldn’t get the awesome M.I. t-shirt), so I completely love this! Great color combination too <3

Your watch party sounds fantastic, I so regret putting mine off until next weekend! Is it weird that I'm anticipating seeing Mac's new hair in action the most? Well, that and DaddyMars <3

  8. Raina says:

LOVED the movie, and was always such a big fan of the show! It really did deliver. I’ve watched it a couple of times already too :)

  9. Heather says:

Nice! I wanted to do something VMars-themed for when I went to the theatre on Saturday but couldn’t think of anything. It was super good! And made me actually jump twice, got my heart beating. ;) My theatre wasn’t very full, but there were several showings so hopefully people were just spread out.

Here’s hoping for potentially more…*fingers crossed*

    • Michelle Mismas says:

I’m hoping for that too. I was encouraged when a friend tried to see it on Saturday and all three evening screenings were sold out.

  10. Andrea says:

Just watched the movie with a friend who is also a huge VMars fan. The only way to watch it in Norway is to buy or download, as they don’t show it in theaters. But it was actually a good thing we watched it at home. With that much screaming, laughing and loud omg-moment, we would have been a pain for everybody else.

  11. Tara says:

OMG OMG I loved the movie too!!!! I’ve watched it 5 times so far and have been watching the DVDs since soap net is no longer can’t wait for the DVD to add to my collection movie left me wanting more so happy that I found other marshmallows out there!! Xoxoxo

  12. Amanda says:

I really might hate you right now. LOL

I missed the flipping KickStarter backer by a matter of days and I wanted to beat myself up. I ALSO have NOT seen the movie yet because APPARENTLY Portland, OR metro areas are not worthy of such awesomeness yet! I was all excited and planned the show time we were going to go to based on the BF’s Fandango results… until I found out that he was looking at showtimes in California. Then I wanted to attack HIM. >:-( I have been playing the heck out of my season 1 soundtrack though, let me tell you.

I loved the mani, it is PERFECTLY fitting! I’m sure fellow Marshmallows everywhere would be proud. Also.. #teamLogan all the way, baby!!! Star crossed lovers, indeed. I would join a kickstarter to make just a Logan movie because I seriously can’t get enough of Jason Dohring! The man is aging well!

    • Michelle Mismas says:

No, don’t hate!! Hahaha. I’m sorry you didn’t get a showing in your area though I don’t know how you resisted renting or buying it online. We have a PS3 so I streamed it through the VUDU app and it looked glorious on my tv, in full HD. And yes, I would love a Logan spinoff though I’ll definitely be watching the Ryan Hansen web series he’s doing with Rob Thomas for CW Seed.

      • Amanda says:

WHAT?!?! I CAN GET IT ON LINE?!?!? omg I am a sucky marshmallow for not knowing this. This is a prime example of why I shouldn’t be working. It takes up waaaaaay too much of my time. :P UGH and now after work tonight we are going out of town for 5 days, so it has to wait until we get home…. (falls into a gray pit of dispair) I will have to check out the Ryan Hansen web series too, he is just hilarious as Dick. It’s so strange to think of what the show would have been like had they kept the Dick character limited to what he was originally supposed to be. He is by no means my fave, and he isn’t always around, but man. He gives it that something extra :) Thanks for the info, and I shall now stop being jealous! lol

        • You’re welcome. It’s available on Amazon, iTunes and VUDU/Flixter. And from what I read, the web series will be a mock-umentary about Ryan Hansen trying to get a spin-off series for his character. Should be entertaining.
