Sally Hansen is launching a slew of new products this year. From a full suite of I Heart Nail Art tools, polishes and accessories to Sugar Shimmer glittering textures there is a lot to look forward to. Today, I have their new Satin Glam shades that combine sparkle with a satin finish for an understated glamorous look.

Formula & Application

Sally Hansen Satin Glam is 5-Free (Formaldehyde, Toluene, DBP, Formaldehyde Resin, Camphor). The tapered bottles are similar to the Sally Hansen Lustre Shine bottles except the cap is shiny plastic with a speckled, satin look.

The brush is attached to a long stem that requires a good wipe against the rim to avoid excess polish dripping down. The brush itself is flat, long and medium in width with soft, flexible bristles that are cut straight across. Outside of needing to remember to wipe it off, the brush fans out easily and allows for precise polish placement.

The formula of all the polishes is a bit squishy but smooth. For the most part, they pack enough pigment to give full coverage in two coats with Crystalline and Chic Pink being the exceptions. Because they are satin finish polishes, they dry semi-matte with a wax coat sheen that is intended to be worn without top coat. Of course, due to the metallic shimmer inside, they look gorgeous with a glossy top coat.

Sally Hansen Satin Glam Chic Pink is a bubblegum pink with crystal clear flecks intermixed with the pink sparkle.

Sally Hansen Satin Glam Crystalline is and icy white filled with pink, blue, purple and gold flecks that add a ton of dimension and elevate it from your average white. Even though it’s a bit sheer, it’s truly stunning as is or with top coat (below).

Sally Hansen Satin Glam Go Gold is somewhat of a misnomer. It’s definitely more bronze than gold, thanks to the silver, gold and bronze metallic glitters. It actually looks much better in person than in my shot. I couldn’t quite capture it.

Sally Hansen Satin Glam Metal Iced is a blue-based silver. You could call it an icy blue though it tends to look more blue in indirect lighting and more silver in direct sunlight.

Sally Hansen Satin Glam Silk Onyx is a charcoal shade with flecks that look blue, green and purple, depending on the angle. A glossy top coat really brings that quality out (see below).

Sally Hansen Satin Glam Sun Sheen is a super ripe orange with gold and pink flecks.

Sally Hansen Satin Glam Taffeta is a mid-tone red violet with silver, light purple and blue flecks. It tip toes on Radiant Orchid territory though it’s not quite pink enough for that.

Sally Hansen Satin Glam Teal Tulle is a bright turquoise with light blue and silver flecks. It’s a bit too bright and too blue to be considered a teal.

Bottom Line: I like these type of satin polishes as they have enough sparkle and sheen to make them interesting and not a boring flat, matte. Of course, a satin top coat over your favorite glass fleck polish can achieve the same effect. My faves of the bunch are definitely Crystalline, Silk Onyx due to the multi-colored glitters and Metal Iced for its blue tint. As much as I normally love purple, Taffeta fell flat for me (no pun intended).

Sally Hansen Satin Glam officially launches in March 2014 but it is currently rolling out to mass retailers nationwide. It’s available now online at Target.com and ULTA.com. Satin Glam retails for $5.49-5.99/ea for a .33oz bottle.

Are you liking this new Satin Glam line? Which shades will go on your shopping list? Will you wear them as is or with a shiny top coat?

I have two of these and I love them. I was able to find them at a Harmon’s when I was in NYC. We never get ranges like this in the UK but I really like them

  3. Cathy M says:

Ooh, these are gorgeous! I think I need that teal. <3

  4. Natalie says:

These are truly gorgeous! I really love Crystalline, Go Gold, and Silk Onyx, so I’ll be on the lookout for these.

  5. Curious to see how the silver would look over a dark base! Thanks for sharing!

  7. Abs says:

I want all of them!!!! Thanks for the tip about matte topcoat over glassfleck – I’ll have to try than and hope that satisfies me lemming : )

  8. Christine says:

I need that white one! Do you know if these will be launched worldwide?

    • Michelle Mismas says:

Hi Christine! Unfortunately, I don’t receive information regarding distribution outside the US. I wish I could be of more help.

  9. Genet Gidey says:

    i like satin glam

  10. SusyS says:

I wasn’t familiar with the satin finish. Reminds of a 60′s starlet look. They look perfect for teens for prom season.

  11. kel says:

these are a pass for me. too light and sheer.

  12. Cara says:

Is the brush different from the one in the SH Complete Salon Manicure polishes? Because that brush is way too large, stiff, and clumsy for my tiny, tiny nails.

  13. Casey says:

I have Crystalline and Silk Onyx – none of the others really jumped out at me. Silk Onyx looks like stone when it dries, it’s really neat. Tip wear was a problem, though, because I couldn’t use topcoat.

  14. Elisa says:

I’ve been eyeballing these at my local grocery store for a few weeks now –weird place to have them so early! Like them but haven’t decided if they are “different enough” yet though….maybe if I get a coupon…. I did love the Lustre Shine collection. I REALLY DO WISH Sally Hansen would stick with one bottle though! All the different shapes and sizes wreak havoc on my beautiful shelves, which I organize by brand.

  15. Chris says:

    I love Glam Go Gold!

  16. Phyrra says:

Glam Go Gold looks like a rose gold to me. Pretty!

  17. Nailz Craze says:

Beautiful swatches, I really liked these colors!

  18. steffy says:

Ooooh I need to go back for Crystalline! I have the Onyx, pink, blue and gold and love them. The gold is my fav so far and I think the pink and blue are going to be great for spring. The purple didn’t wow me either but Crystalline looks soooo much better here than in the store lighting, wow! Thank you :)

  19. Debbie Spence says:

    These actually look really pretty.

  20. Marsh says:

I love the satin polishes! I have what is probably the dumbest question ever! If you added a little of the Chic Pink to the Go Gold would it make it kind of a rose gold color?

    • Hmm, good question. I think Go Gold might be too dark for that but maybe SH CSM Wedding Glitters would work. Though you would lose some of the satin finish.

  21. Sue says:

Tried the pink. It was awful. Sally Hansen website says this polish dries to an elegant sheen. It took 4 coats to get moderately decent coverage but no sheen whatsoever. It was totally flat. Because it has the sparkles in it removing 4 coats of this polish was a nightmare. Never again. This polish went right in the trash.

    • I’m so sorry you had a bad experience Sue. I didn’t have any of those issues with Chic Pink.

      • Stephanie says:

I didn’t either, its not my fav of the bunch, that’s still the gold followed by the white, and now I think they dc’d these which is a bummer but that said I did manage to grab some backups on the cheap. Still bummed tthough, the gold made a great undie shade for many of my glitter topcoats, oddly enough, plus they dry fast so I rarely muss them.

  22. Marsh says:

Since you said the Chic Pink was so sheer I put on a coral pink cr

  23. Tisha says:

I took a polish semi-break after my daughter was born on 2013 and am just now finding myself with enough time to do my nails regularly again. I got a bottle of Silk Onyx on clearance for $1.25 yesterday and used it for the first time just now. I’m really liking it with a shiny top coat. Oh, I also finally got my first Helmer (for mothers day!) and am havin a ball playing with my polishes again. Thanks for the continued awesomeness of your blog. :-)

    • Yay! I’m so glad you have time to get back into polish. Great score on Silk Onyx. I love diving into the clearance bins. And what a great Mother’s Day gift. Enjoy your Helmer!
