Go Red For Women – #GoRedChallenge Manicure

By on February 7, 2014
in Essie, Maybelline, Red

This fact has been shared in every mention of American Heart Month and it bears repeating, Heart Disease is the #1 killer of women.

That’s why, today, I painted my nails red in support of Go Red For Women’s 10th annual Wear Red Day. As part of the #GoRedChallenge, I’m wearing Essie Lacquered Up with an accent nail of Essie Blanc and Maybelline Color Show Wild At Heart (apropos, no?) from the Street Art collection.

The pin I’m holding is from the Hearth Truth Red Dress NYFW show a few years back. The annual event took place last night at Lincoln Center. You can get this year’s version from Shop.Heart.Org.

In addition to wearing red today, let’s all make a promise to become better educated about heart disease and get a blood pressure check. It’s one simple step towards a heart healthier you. Learn more at GoRedForWomen.org.

    Pretty manicure!

  2. Elisa says:

I can’t believe nobody commented on this! I still have my red polish on myself. :) It is a shame there isn’t more awareness like there is for breast cancer each October. The only thing I’d add to your post would be the importance of annual wellness checks – much of heart disease is contributed by cholesterol, which does require bloodwork to know, but it is SO important to take care of your heart. Unlike breasts, we cannot cut it out or put in a faux version when things go wrong. You only have one and you must take care of it and yourself, ladies!

  3. Great photo for an even greater cause. Such a simple and fun way to promote awareness of Heart Disease.

  4. I’m sooooo in! I actually need to do my nails today anyway, so they will be red! :D

Yay for the SITS Girls for organizing an event which helped me to discover your blog!

  5. Nicki says:

I seldom wear nail polish as I really abuse my hands with outdoor activities but I do love this red. May have to pick some up. (oh, yeah, here from the SITS Girls comment love)

    • Michelle Mismas says:

Hi Nicki! So glad you stopped by. Even if just for a night out, it’s always good to have a sexy red on hand.

  6. I am in desperate need of a manicure right now! This is a great color, and it’s good to hear more about awareness about heart disease. I did not know it was the #1 killer for women. I’m going in for my annual (which isn’t quite so annual) check up later this week and I have some questions about heart health. My dad had a pacemaker because he had such a low heart rate and I’m wondering if the condition is hereditary. His father also had a low heart rate. Visiting from #SITSBlogging – glad to connect!

    • Michelle Mismas says:

Hi Michelle! It’s great to connect with you as well. My father has heart issues as well, which is what made me more aware. I’m glad you are going to ask your doctor about it. The more education, the better.

Wearing my red polish today too!!

  8. It is so important to be heart-healthy! I have red nails right now too! I was wearing the french manicure and decided I needed some color. Essie products are awesome.

  9. #GoRedChallenge Great cause! I think the “red” should happen ALL month, kind of like American Heart Month. Red is such a power color, that reminds us to walk proud. :)

    • Michelle Mismas says:

I agree Pam! Even though I normally don’t wear red polish, if it help raise awareness, I’m all for it.

  10. It’s great to see initiatives like this for heart disease as like Elisa says above there isn’t enough awareness about it. I love the white dotty nail amongst the red, very effective. I’m popping by from the SITS commenting challenge.

  11. Regina says:

I love the fact that you are spreading the word in your post. I’m one that kinda drives my friends a bit batty in telling them to make sure they get their annual check ups. (especially at our age..I’m one of the ancient ones..hehe) We all have to look out for one another!! I love your polish and so wish I could wear it. I’m one of those that will peel it off within 5 minutes of painting them BUT I did paint my toes!!! ^_^

    • Michelle Mismas says:

Hi Regina! At least you acknowledge that you’re a nail polish peeler and avoid wearing it. It’s much healthier for your nails. :)

  12. Raven says:

It is so important to bring attention to this. I know I’m slowly working on having a overall healthy lifestyle. It’s hard to change bad habits but it’s definitely worth it.

    • Michelle Mismas says:

Hi Raven! It is really hard to make a change. Especially if you were raised with bad habits. I, too, struggle with making good choices but as long as we keep trying.

  13. Oh I never knew about this. Thanks for letting me know.

  14. Hey there! Love the red nails and your blog! Found you from the SITS Girls love challenge. Hope you have a beautiful day!

Love a red set of nails. They look wonderful and what a great cause. I look at my own nails and now desperately want a manicure. Stopping by from SITS Comment Love Tribe. xo

  17. Nolie says:

Day late for SITS comment love but I made it. I am not a nail polish kind of girl but what a great cause.

oh sweet, I will have to go do this, when I get my nails done next.. I can’t paint my own to save my life, haha.. I don’t usually do red, but this is special.
