Makeup Wars – My Beauty Resolutions for 2014

My theme for 2014 is all about getting back on track. 2013 was kind of crazy for me. There were some major highs and devastating lows that threw things out of whack. And while one of the high points was getting back into the game with my blog, which quietly turned 7 last week, I want to take things to the next level in 2014.

I have set some attainable and logical goals for myself in the beauty, blogging and health realm, which fits in with this week’s Makeup Wars theme, 2014 Resolutions. Previously, I gave you some ideas for Nail Resolutions, now it’s time to share what my goals are for the coming year.

Actually use my Weight Watchers app – Beauty comes from within and I feel my most beautiful when I’m healthy. I’ve been a WW Online member for over 2 years and it helped me shed 55 pounds. But in the past six months, I’ve slacked off, hardcore, and it shows. It’s time to cut the crap and count EVERY.SINGLE.POINT! Even if I go over my daily/weekly allotment, I need to be accountable. No excuses!

Get my money’s worth out of my Gym Membership – Eating habits and fitness go hand in hand towards a healthy body. I tried giving C25k another go but my knees and shins were not playing that game so it’s back to the gym. Thankfully, I have a makeup artist as my gym buddy. She helps keep me motivated. Plus, knowing there will be talk of nail polish and beauty products while I sweat, makes it much more appealing.

Take better care of my skin – I’ve been bad about washing my face every night, you guys. Even though I stash packs of cleansing wipes in my nightstand, I still pass out with a full face of makeup some nights. Shame me, I deserve it! The result is regular breakouts, IN MY LATE 30s! Unacceptable. Especially considering how long it takes me to heal. We’re talking red marks for months, no joke. I vow to make regular use of my fave Kiehl’s face wash and Clarisonic.

Finally make an appointment with a Dermatologist - Piggybacking off my last goal, I am way overdue for a visit with a derm. It’s been over 10 years and given the fear that I’m developing rosacea, it’s about time I see a pro and stop self medicating.

To not ignore my feet in winter – All summer long, I am on my foot exfoliating game like no other. My nail tech always compliments my soft skin. But in the winter, it’s like I forget what a foot file is. I get regular pedicures but, in between, I am laaaaaaazy. I need to make use of my Feet by OPI Callus Therapy lotion and Gena Pedi-Pro File even when they won’t see the light of day. Maybe I should look into the Clarisonic Pedi.

To master Contouring and Highlighting – I can watch YouTube gurus teach me about highlighting and contouring all day long. It’s one of my biggest time sucks. And I constantly contemplate the em by Michelle Phan Chiaroscuro stick. The thing is, when I try to replicate it, I look like a hot mess. Either I don’t have the right products or technique so this is the year I make it my bish!

I will attempt Water Marbling once more – When I originally posted about my water marbling experience, declaring it my last, lots of you gave advice in the comments. Fabulous advice. And since the scars from that PITA incident have healed, I will heed your tips and tricks and give it a go. Giving up after one try was kind of pathetic.

Finally, I want to up my blogging consistency and deliver more unique content outside of my standard product reviews. I have a lot of ideas, including the revival of some older series that you all enjoyed, so stay tuned! Let’s make 2014 our best year yet!

Do you make resolutions or goals at the start of a new year? What are some things you want to accomplish in 2014?

Water marbling is so much fun, but so messy! Mine never turned out like that photo, but it wasn’t bad.

  2. Congrats on 7 years! WOW! I’ve never tried a water marble. I’ve already decided it’ll be a fail for me lol

  3. Pink Sith says:

You are braver than me when it comes to water marbeling. I can’t bring myself to do it. I’m too worried I’ll have PTSD from all the polish left in my cuticles. I can’t wait to see your results!

  4. I have two of the same resolutions – foot care and seeing a dermatologist. Both are ones I am going to work hard to keep too. Weight Watchers is in my future too.

  5. Phyrra says:

I love the em Cosmetics Chiaroscuro stick! you can do it!

  6. JDV says:

I definitely share some of these goals! Right now my feet could use a once-over from a belt sander……..

    • Michelle Mismas says:

Ha! Mine aren’t quite that rough but they’re not great. I’m getting a pedicure next week and I’m promising myself I’ll maintain.

  7. Pammy says:

That is an impressive list of goals. Good for you with WW! I used WW to lose my baby weight from my first baby. With baby #2 due in 2 weeks…I am likely to be back on WW again soon. Making a Derm appointment sounds like a good idea, too. Your Dr. might have a simple and easy solution for your rosacea! :)

    • Michelle Mismas says:

I hope so. I just need to find someone good to go to. My derm moved out of state which is why I haven’t been in over 10 years. I hate looking for new doctors.

  8. Eileen says:

I absolutely love your blog! So I am glad you are posting often! Love it! I am curious-do you do your own pedicures? I have such a hard time getting my toenails to look nice, although I think I do a decent job at at-home manis. If you have any tips for at-home pedicures, that would be an awesome post!!

    • Michelle Mismas says:

Hi Eileen! I will do my own pedicure if I’m desperate and can’t squeeze in an appointment but I avoid it at all costs. I’m terrible at polishing my toes. I can never contort myself into a position that allows me to make smooth brush strokes so regular pedis are my one necessary treat to myself.

  9. jbrobeck says:

I am the same with my feet! It the summer I go crazy and in the winter I ignore them. My heels are cracked right now… I hate the way they feel against the sheets when I get into bed!

  10. My watermarbles always turn out looking weird. I need to watch someone do it in front of me and then maybe I can!

  11. I need to start back with WW too–it’s the only thing that has really worked for me. Somehow water marbeling sounds like torture!

  12. leejing says:

yes, please update more regularly. i love your posts =)

  13. Brittany says:

Fantastic list, lovely! Congrats on 7 years! I remember stumbling across your blog many years ago and being amazed that someone blogged about nail polish. Fell in love with ALU on the spot. And yay for WW! It really does work and I plan on giving it a try myself. Good luuuuck!

  14. Christa says:

I’ve been shamefully neglecting my feet this winter too! Added to my list!

  15. Jenni says:

Congrats on the 7 year anniversary!!! I also have tried water marbling, and as a Nail Tech found it to be a PITA! I even took a hands on class, but the teacher was horrible in my opinion. Maybe I should give it another try too, because I liked the picture you posted above! ;)

  16. Raging Rouge says:

The first time I tried water marbling, it looked fab. Turns out it was beginners luck, and every attempt since then has looked awful! I’m looking forward to reading about your fresh attempt at this process.

  17. Leissa says:

I’ve only water marbled once, and it turned out ok for a first attempt. I definitely would like to try it again. A tip that I tried that really helped a beginner like me was to use a shot glass (I have a China Glaze one from a holiday pack I got on clearance at Sally’s last year, score!) I also want to try the “dry” water marble thing & see if that’s any easier/less messy ;)
