Sunday Funday – Celebrating with the best ice cream cake EVER

It’s been a rough morning at ALU Headquarters. Last night we celebrated the boyfriend’s birthday in a most intoxicating way. A small party at home to welcome him to a new decade.

One of the first things I learned about him, over fourteen years ago, is that the man loves ice cream. More specifically, ice cream cake. He used to buy ice cream cakes from Dairy Queen for no special occasion. Just to have them.

So when his big 4-0 rolled around, I knew he needed a special cake. And thankfully we have an amazing artisinal ice cream shop nearby that specializes in just that. Sweetie Fry in Cleveland Heights is known for their unique, handmade ice cream flavors and entree french fries. My personal faves, Maple Bacon and Goat Cheese with nuts and honey.

In addition to traditional potato fries, they make funnel cake fries that become the base of the Sweetie Fry Ice Cream Cake. Topped with a layer of French Toast ice cream (one of the bf’s faves), it’s one ridiculously decadent treat.

We served this to a group of about 20 last night and every.single.one of them RAVED about it. It’s truly phenom and takes ice cream cake to a whole new level. If you live in the Cleveland area or come for a visit, I highly recommend an ice cream pit stop at Sweetie Fry.

What is your favorite flavor of ice cream? Do you like the more unique flavors or the old standards? If  you’re from the area, have you been to Sweetie Fry?

I live in the Cleveland area but have never heard of Sweetie Fries. I feel like I am missing out on something great. I’ll definitely check it out sometime soon.

I usually end up with the same old thing, chocolate peanut butter ice cream, but I have been known to try new flavors like salted caramel now and then. I might try the maple bacon ice cream when I go there, though

Hi fellow Clevelander! Definitely give the place a try. It’s a cute little shop and you can see them making the ingredients for the ice cream.

Ordering ice cream cake just because is totally something I would do. My bday is in October so people usually think its too cold for ice cream cake then.
I haven’t been to Sweetie Fry yet but keep hearing good things.

Oh you must go! It’s really good. He made an ice cream with Left Hand Milk Stout last year and it was delicious.

  3. Omg, that place sounds amazing! And that cake, wow!! I think I gained 5lbs just from this post, haha! Happy Birthday to your sweetie!
