FingerPaints A Grape Catch & Sage It Ain’t So from “A Pair Affair” by All Lacquered Up

In case you missed it, I have had the privilege of working with the people at Sally Beauty to create a six piece capsule collection for their FingerPaints nail polish brand. A collection of three on-trend duos, FingerPaints “A Pair Affair” by All Lacquered Up will launch in Sally Beauty stores, nationwide, this September.

FingerPaints A Grape Catch and Sage It Ain't So

Today I have the first duo to share with you, A Grape Catch and Sage It Ain’t So. Green and purple are my two favorite shades, in nail polish and life, so pairing them together just makes sense. And they make for a fabulous gradient manicure, if I do say so myself!

Formula & Application: FingerPaints is 5-Free and produced exclusively for Sally Beauty. The FingerPaints bottle is unique in that it’s kind of an oblong shape (remember The Oblongs) with a long, slender, slightly taped cap. The brush is long, thin and flexible. It reminds me of the old OPI brush which is probably why so many of us speculated that OPI made FingerPaints back in the day.

Both polishes have a smooth flow to them and dry with a glossy finish though the pigmentation varies. A Grape Catch gets it done in a solid two coats while Sage It Ain’t So is a bit more sheer, to suspend the glass flecks, so it requires three coats.

FingerPaints A Grape Catch is kind of my Mismas 2.0 only this time I was longing for an indigo-leaning purple with a high sparkle factor. The base color is kind of smoky with a silvery shimmer and it’s packed with blue and silver glitter with some glass flecks mixed in. It dries with a bit of texture but nothing a top coat won’t camouflage.

FingerPaints Sage It Ain’t So is a silvery verdant green filled with smooth crystal glass flecks that give it an almost metallic look. The underside of a leaf bathed in moonlight served as inspiration for this color.

Being that these shades were designed to be worn together, an accent nail is an easy way to don the duo. They make for a fab mani-pedi combo as well.

However, when I really started playing with the colors, a gradient nail art manicure came to mind. A Grape Catch sponges really well over Sage It Ain’t So, quickly adding opacity to the look.

What do you think of my first duo? Do you plan to pick up either of these shades? What kind of nail art would you create with this pair?

How do you do the ombre look? I’ve been trying to figure it out but I can’t get it right. Love the color combo…very fun for fall!

    • Michelle Mismas says:

Hi Regina! I use a makeup sponge to apply the purple over the green. Wait until the base color is completely dry, then swipe polish on the sponge and dab it on the nail. If you dampen the sponge slightly, it will help prevent it from absorbing all the polish before it hits the nail.

  2. aaminahs mom/pamela greenlee says:

I cannot wait for this to drop! they are so pretty and ready for fall colors

  3. Kb says:

Oh boy! I’m in trouble. Love that purple. And the gradient with the green? Swoon!

  4. Carissa H. says:

Love both, I just hope I grab them at my Sally’s before they’re all gone! My Sally’s has a habit of putting polish out before they’re supposed to and I always seem to miss out! I’m already planning manis with this! I’m thinking some charcoal grey stamping over the purple and a funky French with silver tips for the green.

    • Michelle Mismas says:

Good point Carissa! They do tend to pop up early in some parts. It all depends on the store. I love your stamping idea. I’d love to see it if you try.

  5. Beauty By Krystal says:

I love this duo! So properly named too ;) I truly cannot wait to buy them all oxo

  6. Hi Michelle, these colors are so you! I mean, just look at your page header hehe. Great job!

Thanks Amy! I really wanted this collection to be a reflection of me so that’s an amazing compliment.

  7. Chris says:

*dies* They are both gorgeous! Now I have to add A Grape Catch to my list.

  8. moeysullivan says:

Wow. Just wow. I am 50 and not in a nail-art-loving profession, but that gradient is elegant and badass at the same time.

  9. moeysullivan says:

PS I am still all about the glass fleck finish–the sparkle you can wear to court (though maybe not during jury trial). Glad you are too.

    • Michelle Mismas says:

Yes! I have always loved the China Glaze glass flecks so that type of finish just resonates with me

  10. Holly Nelson says:

Whilst I am not bothered by either polish individually, I love when they have been put together like that!

    • Michelle Mismas says:

Thanks Holly! While the purple works well with some of the other shades in the collection, I like it best with Sage It Ain’t So.

  11. Diane says:

Those are wonderful colors and they have great depth. I’ll have to look for those at Sally’s.

    • Michelle Mismas says:

Thanks Diane! I feel like the purple is more vivacious in person so definitely check them out.

  12. Slick says:

Purple and green are my 2 fave colors in polish and life as well and these are both stunning! Thank you for this, I will definitely get both, can’t wait!

  13. Jenna says:

I love the purple. So pretty!

  14. leejing says:

this first duo looks great, especially the gradient mani look! didnt expect purple and green to go well together. the green looks a tad sheer though!

    • Michelle Mismas says:

Hi Leejing! As I mentioned in the post, it is a bit sheer to suspend the glass flecks. That’s just the nature of that kind of finish. But it’s totally buildable.

  15. elizabeth says:

I love these! I’m so glad you got another chance to create nail polish colors, I have almost all of the Barielles you designed and I love them all. I’ll be stalking Sally’s come September!

Thank you Elizabeth. I’m very fortunate to be able to do this again. It’s been a great experience.
