I stood up on Sunday, literally after writing my last post, and felt a shooting pain in my back. This happened to me one before in my mid-20s with no explanation and again i have no clue what triggered it. Since Sunday I have been flat on my back, moving only out off extreme necessity. Happy Anniversary to me!

I had planned to finish editing my NYE manni pics after having a drink. Clearly that didn’t happen so i wanted to update you all so you don’t think I disappeared. Btw, I’m typing this on my tablet so please excuse any errors. I have appointments with a doctor and chiropractor tomorrow so let’s hope I can get some relief asap. Yes, I’m going to both because I want to cover my bets.

In the meantime I’ve been tearing through my Kindle library and if you’re at all interested in celebrity or Hollywood I suggest you check out Rob Lowe’s autobiography. It’s smart, interesting and seems unreal. The man gives new meaning to destiny and chance encounter. It doesn’t hurt that he’s one of my longest-running celebs crushes, aside from Christian Bale.

I’ll keep you posted on how it ask goes. Keep you fingers crossed.

I do hope they can fix you up quick, and that it isn’t anything serious! I’m sorry you haven’t been well. I’m looking forward to your return!

Hope you get well soon! :)

  3. flipflopgal says:

You poor thing! I am unfortunately a member of the “bad back” club, so I can sympathize. When you are feeling up to it, I recommend the Thermophore heating pad. It is a little pricey, but works wonders! I hope you feel better soon!

    • All Lacquered Up says:

Thanks for the suggestion. My doc told me to use ice. He even had me sleeping on an ice pack. Real comfortable! But it must have helped.

      • flipflopgal says:

Sorry, should have clarified…yes, ice for when you are in acute pain. Heat for when the pain has subsided & you are just kind of “ache-y” or stiff.

  4. Cherry says:

Love this blog, but more importantly feel better soon, take care of that back!! I’ve had serious back pain over time and in July 2010 had excruciating pain with 2 herniated discs in lower back. I had the best success in reducing pain and increasing flexibility (which apparently I needed) by getting physical therapy under watchful eye of a Ph.D. in physical therapy at a sports therapy office. It’s been extremely helpful.

    • All Lacquered Up says:

Unfortunately this isn’t my first time at this rodeo. Last time I was out for almost a month. I think because I’m exercising, losing weight & doing yoga it helped me get better faster this time around.

  5. Kelly says:

Awww… That sucks! But, life is life. Take time to heal and we will still be here when you return! Sounds like a stiff neck; those are horrible!

  6. Lydia says:

  14. Eunice says:

Oh my goodness! Take it easy and hopefully the doc and chiropractor will have a solution for you. Get well soon! :)

  15. Tina says:

Acupuncture. Acupuncture. Acupuncture. Took away 10 yrs of chronic back pain caused by accident — it’s only been back very briefly a couple of times in 5 years.

    • All Lacquered Up says:

Thanks for the suggestion Tina! If I can’t get back to 100% with meds & stretches I’ll look into it.

  16. Oh, poor you, nothing makes you quite as tired as severe back pains.
I hope the doctor can help you, I keep my fingers crossed…

  17. I hope you get relief soon! I’m also having back trouble. I’m doing as little as possible, mostly resting. I’ve taken Aleve & using ice packs & it only gives partial relief. If it doesn’t get better soon, I’m going for medical help.

I enjoy reading your blog posts so much!

  18. Sophie says:

Oh noes! Back pains really suck! Hope they figure it out sooner than later. :-)

Christian Bale, though? Really? He kind of scares me. I can’t get American Psycho out of my head when I see him: I’ve kind of turned him into that character. :/

    • All Lacquered Up says:

I can’t help myself. I’ve been crushing on him since Newsies. And his body in AP was sick so even though the character was a nutjob, Christian looked hot.

  19. J says:

Hope you get better soon and that the pain goes away :)

  20. feel better michelle…my money is on the chiropractor!

  21. Jennifer says:

Oh no! I feel your pain. I did something to my back a couple weeks before Christmas and it is still giving me trouble. No idea what I did to it. If it’s not better by next week I’m letting the hubby drag me to the doctor. Hope your back gets better asap!

  22. Jen says:

Sorry to hear this. When I moved houses I thought I was Supergirl and carried some very heavy boxes, but my back completely disagreed and something similar to what you’re saying happened to me. For a couple of days that seemed like an eternity I was flat on my back and trying to get some movement –nothing like a doctor’s advice to “give those muscles some action.” It hurt like hell. But hang in there! The Doc/Chiro combo is sure to sort you out and you’ll be back on your feet in no time.

  23. Pam Whitehead says:

The best person for backs is Sarah Key – take a look at her website, there is some great information and advice on there. I don’t know if there are any Sarah Key-trained physios in the USA but I’d advise you to buy a copy of her book, the Back Sufferer’s Bible, which is available on Amazon. Watch all the videos on her website – they will show you the exercises she uses, as well as the theory behind them. I was in a lot of pain and her exercises have made a lot of difference to me, and to other people I know.

  24. Kristen says:

I went through the same thing a week before Christmas — sounds like one of your disks is pressing on a nerve in your spine. Get yourself to the doctor ASAP; they can give you strong anti-inflammatories and steroids (in pill form) to get the swelling down quickly so you can be mobile again. I haven’t gone to a chiropracter yet because I am skeptical, but I’m considering it as I am still healing and still prone to some pain. Good luck!

  25. Heather says:

Shooting pain sounds like a disc, especially if it’s down the leg. It’s not as scary as it sounds, or doesn’t have to be, since there are all kinds of treatments for it. Hope you find out whats going on and get relief quickly.

I hope you feel better. I live in the east side of Cleveland, so I guess I am close to you. I know what back pain can be like, believe me. Could you possibly review the new LA Girl Glitter addict nail polilsh when you get better? Thanks. Also, what kind of nail polish should I be wearing now, since it’s the dead of winter now. Just regular dark colors?

    • All Lacquered Up says:

I don’t have any immediate plans to review LA Girl Glitter Addict, sorry. And I say, wear what makes you happy. While there are always trends, and I like to wear them, ultimately I still wear what I want.

So sorry to hear this; I am in a similar situation. I have degenerative disc disease & am looking at surgery number four. ( I’m 51 & this started when I was 22). Maybe a dose of muscle relaxers will help. Love you blog! Keeping my Zoya Ilsa polished fingers crossed for you!

  50. beachgal says:

Oh, not good news to hear. I am glad you are getting out to see 2 care givers tomorrow. Odd if it turns out to be exactly what it was years ago, that is if you ever got a diagnosis back then for what caused it. Fibromyalgia can do that. Also, be sure to think and tell the docs you see if you recently had a flu shot. Hopefully it’s only a pulled something that heals FAST!

I have read the Rob Lowe bio…I got into a binge of reading a bunch of celebrity bios since last fall on my Nook Color however – not a Kindal. if you like mysteries, have not see the movie, read The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo…it’s great and best to read before you see the movie. It’s a fast read. I also read the bio Keith Richard’s put out last fall. He has lived a life that should have killed him – kind of reminded me of the autobiography David Crosby (Crosby, Stills, Nash) wrote years ago. He had to ask others to help fill in his missing years in his life. Unbroken by the same author who wrote Seabiscut is fab and got #1 on the 2011 best seller list for most sold/longest on the NYT top 10. Get well fast but take care of anything that hurts.

    • All Lacquered Up says:

Wow! I have trouble with my back too – I know what you’re feeling. I hope you feel better soon!

I just wanted to mention also, that in honor (?) of the Election season, ManGlaze has launched a new nail polish color. It’s a “frothy” matte brown called “Santorum”, a tribute more to advice columnist Dan Savage than to the GOP candidate… it may be discontinued after Santorum drops out, but until then it’s available thru MG’s Facebook marketplace

  58. Megan says:
