ALU’s 365 of Untrieds – Nails Inc Warwick Way & Sloane Square 3D Glitter

nails inc warwick way sloane square 3d glitter special effects nail polish 365 of Untrieds is my personal challenge to weed through the polishes in the ALU stash that I’ve been wanting to try but just haven’t gotten around to.

Happy Hump Day Fanatics!  My nails were dying for a break and in need of some major TLC so while I am apologizing for the delay in posts my nails aren’t. I made the switch to non-acetone remover a few months ago to help prevent drying and I obsessively apply cuticle oil but sometimes my little buddies just need a rest. btw, Nubar’s Cucumber remover is the business.

So getting back to my untrieds, we’re on Day #119 and I’m digging into my Nails Inc stash. I wanted something bright and fun but I was also curious about the 3D Glitters so I paired the creamy Warwick Way with Special Effects Sloane Square. Let’s see how it turned out.

Formula & Application: The Nails Inc formula varies in terms of ingredients.Warwick Way is 3-Free and Sloane Square is 4-Free (including formaldehyde resin) and free of camphor, which can be an irritant. The round glass bottles are topped with a thick, round, smooth cap of the same width.  The brush is round and pretty thick with bristles that give some resistance when you try to fan it out.

Warwick Way was a dream to apply. The formula is thin and easy to control yet rich with pigment. It flows on the nail effortlessly and levels out nice and even, drying with a high gloss shine. Two coats delivered perfect coverage. Since Sloane Square is a semi-sheer glitter and I used one coat of it to add some glitz to my manicure.

Nails Inc Warwick Way is a BRIGHT, almost neon, teal creme. It’s one baby step away from neon, that’s how bright it is. What’s interesting is that indoors, it looks really green but in sunlight it looks more aqua, though not as blue as China Glaze Aqua Baby. I photographed it in the sun because capturing this color in anything but direct sunlight is a CHALLENGE. That’s why I’m not showing a comparison, it’s too hard to translate this color’s vibrancy to a screen. Though if you’re looking for a color reference, Hard Candy Frenzy has the same base color. It’s just a lighter version.

I thought adding a coat of Nails Inc Sloane Square would make for a fun combo but I’m not sold on it as a pair. Sloane Square has a smoky grey semi-sheer base that is filled with graphite micro-glitter and holographic sequins. The base color darkens Warwick Way, making it a murkier and the sequins look out of place. Indoors it looks really sea-green.

Bottom Line: This is one manicure where the whole is not greater than the sum of its parts. I love how bold and vivid Warwick Way is and that I don’t have any almost-neons quite like it. I really dig the gunmetal glitter party that is Sloane Square but together, I’m not feeling it. I think Warwick Way would look much better under a Nfu Oh flakie and Sloane Square would be phenom over one of the sapphire blues or concrete greys that will be making waves this fall.

365 of Untrieds Stash/Share Verdict: I’m STASHing them both but making a mental note not to wear them together again.

Nails Inc Warwick Way and Special Effects Sloan Square 3D Glitter are available exclusively in the US at select Sephora stores (see full list) and online at Sephora.com. Nails Inc nail polishes retail for $9.50/ea for a .33oz bottle.

Thoughts on these colors? What do you think of them layered together? What would you put Sloane Square over? Have you discovered a new Nails Inc fave since the line launched at Sephora?

You’re right; they’re both gorgeous but together something is missing. I live them both though, and can’t wait to check out Nails, Inc at Sephora! Now I just have to psyche myself up for a trip to the mall…

  2. Louise says:

I love the 3D glitters, maybe Fitzroy Square would have gone better?

  3. Becky says:

I love Warwick Way! It is definitely on my lemming list! I like Sloane Square too. I think maybe over a grey would be nice. Most of my lemmings are not on the Sephora site but the Nails inc site and can not be gotten over here. I guess I will either need to go to London to get these or send to my brother’s house and have him send to me. Either way spending a load of money :(

  4. Mimi says:

I agree with you on the combo not be an awesome mix and that they are much more awesome separate….. It looks like I’m going to be making a large order from sephora real soon lol ;)

  5. vunfung says:

don’t like this combo either. it changes the colour

  6. Rosemary says:

I tried using non-acetone remover for a while and it absolutely destroyed my nails — it made my nails really weak and caused flaking which made my nail polish chip horribly! Since I switched back to regular, it doesn’t seem to happen. Did I just do something wrong?!

    • All Lacquered Up says:

No, not at all. Products work differently on everyone. I’ve tried some non-acetone removers and hated them. I’ve just had good luck with Nubar’s so I’m sticking with it. I know a lot of people rave about soy based removers because they are so gentle. I just haven’t found one that is effective. Though if you’re looking for a more natural solution, No Miss makes a remover that smells a little plastic-y but works http://www.alllacqueredup.com/2008/04/go-green-with-no-miss.html

    I love this look!

  8. JoAnne says:

I agree with you, no so great together, but will be interesting to see another combo. They are very cool polishes though (and your nails look stellar). BTW, you’ve really got me thinking of buying my first Nails Inc, there are some super colors. Never heard of it until reading this blog. I must live under a rock. Bah! :)

  9. Jennifer says:

You mean the whole is not greater than the sum of its parts? ;p Either way, I agree. Those two just aren’t made for each other.

    • All Lacquered Up says:

In my head that’s what I typed and clearly it didn’t come out right on the page. Funny, that I re-read the post at least three times and didn’t catch it. Oh how the mind plays tricks.

  10. Priscilla says:

The glitter would have been nice with a dark purple!! I love the glitter I’m a fan!!

  11. Maddie says:

What is the difference between a 3-d glitter and a regular glitter polish?

    • All Lacquered Up says:

I think it’s just a marketing term. They probably dubbed it that because of the multi-shaped glitter. Thinking that pairing small traditional glitter particles with larger holo sequins would make it appear to have more depth. Kind of like when Sally Hansen came out with a line of HD polishes.

  12. meme says:

OOOOweee. I think these are super together. Great shade to keep out and close by for Teal Toes Days all through Sept for Ovarian Cancer Awareness days. I am so lemming some of the Nails Inc. I have not been into a Sephora since they landed.

    • meme says:

Really love the gray glitter – something I don’t have in my stash and need – the slight color accents in it are perfect.

  13. meme says:

Glad you took a break for yourself on your 365 as well as on your fingernails. I have to do the latter all the time or I would have no nails at all. They spend more time without then with but I like them healthy and natural. Gobs of cuticle oil as you say – I also use Barielle Strengthening Treatment with their Intensive Renewal Nail Oil about 35 seconds after the cream. It’s an amazing duo. Tried tons of stuff and nothing works like this does. Then all through the day I have a variety of things I grab for all around the house and always in my purse. HYDRATE – nails – Hydrate down my mouth into me – tons and tons of water for me and it helps my skin soooo much.

  14. Fingers says:

I agree, these two should not be paired together. Because of your raves about Nails Inc, I tried it and am addicted! I have already bought 20 bottles of the stuff! Its really a great polish!

  15. Suzanne says:

That color you had on was a teal?! I swear it was kelly green. I like it a lot more in the photos.

    • All Lacquered Up says:

I know, right? It was pretty shady when we got there and in the shade or indoors, it looks really green.

  16. Nicole says:

they’re both beautoful, jsut not together…

  17. Susan says:

I actually ordered Warwick Way from a UK site weeks ago, but it seems to have gotten lost in the post. I’m still hoping it’ll manage to find its way here, especially after reading your post. I can’t think of an Nfu Oh flakie that will go with the teal though. The most likely ones might be either too blue or too green…

  18. Ollie says:

Are you rocking a slightly different nail shape? Your nails look great!

    • All Lacquered Up says:

They may be a bit more rounded than usual. My nails are kind of bell shaped, meaning they are wider at the tips, so rocking a round nail is harder for me but I try.

  19. tata-nadaver says:

    Beautiful glitter 3D

  20. Linda says:

    Hey Michelle, (And other readers)

Speaking of nails needing TLC, I was wondering if anyone else’s nail line has suddenly changed–as in, receded closer towards the finger. I’ve looked up the possibilities and I was just wondering what you or other people had to say. Thanks!

    • All Lacquered Up says:

Mine receded due to my nail biting habit and that’s why my white tips are so thick even when my nails are short.

  21. Joan says:

Where is the Christian Dior addition?

  22. Bunny says:

Great Swatches! I think the combination looks nicer than you do. I’d do it as a “twinkle toes” type of pedi. I actually like the salt and pepper look on the toes.

I’d love to see how Warwick Way would look with a layer of Dior Rock Coat over it — instant winterization. ;) And I’d also love to see Sloan Square compared with another glitter top coat such as OPI Serving Up Sparkle.

  23. Chris says:

I love Warwick Way on its own. I think it would look fab as a pedicure shade.

  24. Kelly says:

Thank you so much for your Nails Inc reviews! As a UK reader it’s nice to read about polish I can get in the local drug store. Much appreciated!

  25. pocketsized says:

Holy baby Jesus!!!! Warwick Way is GORG! Gonna add it to my list of Christmas wants because I’m a broke college student.. but hot damn! I’m always so uncertain when it comes to light/bright blues because I’m tan/olive and to use your term they give me “alien hands”, but this color can not be passed up. Thank you for the swatch, especially since it was dfficult to photograph. :)

  26. Deb says:

LOVE these! I have to check out this brand soon. Sloane Square seems like it’d love fantastic over Zoya Cynthia from the Smoke collection! Almsot wish fall would hurry up and get here so I can wear my fall colors.

  27. Hannah says:

I just Sloan a few weeks ago and it looks great and applies well but I am having the hardest time trying to pair it with another polish color. You think a nude color or a dark blue would look good? And have you noticed how this particular polish reeks???

    • All Lacquered Up says:

I didn’t really smell any different to me but I’m pretty immune to it at this point. Something has to really smell bad for me to notice

    • Leslie says:

I thought it was just me. My bottle of Sloan Square smells “off”.

  28. Paulina says:

How many coats do you think would take for Sloane Square to be opaque?

  29. JACQUELYN says:

I like the combo. I ord Old Park Lane from Sephora. I like Maddox Street too, and wonder if I should hurry and get it in case it gets picked up en masse with Fall coming soon to you North People. :)

  30. Lisa says:

Green glitter dont look bad. It is suitable for example in the party, but I prever classical and elegant nail art designs. What prefer you girls?

Btw dont you know some sites where is nail art e-book? I know only http://designs-nail-art.com/nail-art-designs

  31. Polly says:

Hi Michelle, you mention you’ve switched to a non-acetone remover – I remember you used to recommend Zoya Remove+ as one of your ‘staple’ items, so does this mean that you are less happy with it after longterm use? Would you no longer recommend it? I’ve been aiming to get it on the strength of your recommendation (not that easy in the UK, which is why I haven’t yet) so now I’m wondering whether I should make the effort/expense to do so or whether to look for something different? Thanks for your help!

    • All Lacquered Up says:

I wouldn’t say that I’m less happy with Remove+ it’s just that I use a lot more remover than the average person and I found that my nails were getting drier using a remover with acetone. Most people don’t change their polish multiple times a day so their nails don’t have the same amount of exposure to acetone as I do.

  32. Robin says:

I am going to want to add Warwick Way to my collection of blues! However I am going to hold off til Sept 8th and hopefully get the new Chanel blues that are coming out :)

  33. Jenna says:

I’ve read many reviews on Nails Inc and have wanted to try their polishes forever! Unfortunately the sephora stores near me do not seem to carry Nails Inc and $OPI. Are they only in available in the US?
