ALU’s 365 of Untrieds – Confetti Happy Birthday!

confetti-happy-birthday-nail-polish-365-untrieds 365 of Untrieds is my personal challenge to weed through the polishes in the ALU stash that I’ve been wanting to try but just haven’t gotten around to.

May is my favorite month of the year. For one, it’s when we start to get consistently nice weather in the CLE. Finally! Second, it’s my birthday month. My birthday is the last day of the month so it usually coincides with Memorial Day Weekend which I consider the kickoff to the summer season. Third, May’s birthstone is the emerald which is most likely the cause of my green nail polish obsession.

Sometime last summer I noticed the Confetti brand of nail polish popping up at local CVS stores. The range is affordable and filled with a lot of eye catching shades. I’ve had a few of them in my stash for a while now but haven’t used a single one until today. My birthday may be 29 days away but why not start celebrating early by wearing Confetti Happy Birthday!

Formula & Application: Confetti nail polishes are 4-Free (including formaldehyde resin) and free of camphor, which can be an irritant. The glass bottles have a smooth plastic cap that flares out at the top, tapering near the base where you would grip it for polishing. The round brush is average in length and width with flexible bristles that easily spread over the nail.

The lacquer is pretty thin with a jelly-ish, squishy texture that flows nicely on the nail but doesn’t offer a ton of coverage. Considering how dark Happy Birthday! is, you would expect more pigment but I needed three medium coats to get full coverage. Even then I could see lighter areas at the base and tip, characteristics of a typical jelly.

Confetti Happy Birthday! is a rich cool-toned grape hue packed with irregularly shaped hot pink micro-glitter. The glitter gives the promise of duo-chrome in the bottle but on the nail I just see pink with little flecks of blue peeking out from time to time. What I really like is that the glitter doesn’t add texture to the polish so it dries nice and glossy even without top coat.

Bottom Line: I’m a sucker for this type of purple and the pink glitter really pops making this color a standout. Considering the budget friendly price point, I don’t mind the need for three coats especially since I’m giving up two coverage for a smooth formula.

365 of Untrieds Stash/Share Verdict: I see not reason not to STASH it.

I found Confetti nail polishes at my local CVS but other chains may be carrying the brand as well. I read that the owners were sued by Coty (owners of Sally Hansen) and the company was shut down but I still see them so availability may vary. Confetti nail polishes retail for $1.99/ea for a .37oz bottle.

What do you think of Happy Birthday? Would you choose it for your birthday manicure? Have you tried Confetti polishes before? What are your favorite colors from the brand?

Disclosure: I purchased this nail polish. For more info view my Disclosure Policy.

When you run out of untrieds, try Mr. Wrong by Hard Candy at Walmart. Really cool silverish goldish purplish color. Picked it up when I got Beetle.

  3. Tennekka says:

looks pretty nice – I would love this with another color glitter added. Maybe like a hint of gold or green!

  4. I have a few Confetti polishes that I’m happy with but I don’t think I have this one. Arg, I hate that I have so many polishes I can’t remember what I have and what I don’t! Well, I don’t mind having them, just not being able to remember them. :)

    GORGEOUS!!!

Love this so much. I think it may be my favorite of your untrieds so far. Plus we are Gemini sisters! My bday is May 30th and since I was a kid my parents have always allowed us (my identical twin sister and I) to have a birthday day where we can take the day off school (or work) and just have a fun day. I still insist on taking the day off and doing something nice for myself. I think this year that fun day will definitely include a pedicure with a fun colour like this!

I have this in my stash too and haven’t tried it. It looks beautiful! Good to know. Thanks for swatching! I love this series!

  7. Sarah says:

I almost bought this at CVS once, but ended up getting Borghese Plumaggi Purple instead. They looked very similar in the bottle, and I assumed the more expensive polish would have better pigmentation/application. Unfortunately, once applied, you can’t see the glitter in Plumaggi Purple at all and it looks more navy blue than purple. I wish I’d gotten Happy Birthday! instead.

  8. I have this and even though it’s super pretty, I would never wear it for my birthday.
It’s just not ridiculous enough at all.

Also, how do you think it compares to Sinful Colors Daddy’s Girl?

  9. Heather says:

    gorgeous!

  10. Barb says:

I’ve found the confetti brushes to be awful, which is a huge turn off for me. Though I have this polish and love the color, just wish the brush was better.

  11. Melissa says:

I love this color and bought it myself. Too bad the brush was a dud, completely curve making it almost impossible to apply. I’ve been afraid to try them again.

  12. Hannah says:

Today is my birthday! How appropriate to swatch this one :P Love the color sooo much!

  13. Chris says:

I wore this on my birthday! I also posted it on my blog as my birthday manicure. Sadly, this polish was the only highlight of that day. :(

  14. NailPolishFan says:

This color is absolutely beautiful. I don’t own any of these polishes, but I would totally go out and get this one. How does it compare to China Glaze’s Mummy May I?

  15. Tuxie says:

I actually just bought this today at CVS before I even saw this! What are the odds?

  16. Denette says:

I would definately don this color on my birthday! Purple is my favorite color and it is in December which is when I tend to wear darker shades most often. Beautiful color on you!!

  17. Katy says:

Omg fellow late May/Memorial Day weekend baby!!!

What a pretty purple. I’ve had two other Confettis, Moonstruck (my first of the greiurples, and I love it) and Masquerade Ball (almost identical to $OPI I’m With Brad, which I already own, so I sold it to a friend for a dollar).

    • Katy says:

Also, both of the brushes on mine were perfectly fine, but do a store-check before you buy it, etc.

  18. J says:

I’m just curious to how it compares with to OPI’s Ink as the colours kinda look similar, are they dupes? ^_^

  19. Chloe says:

My birthday is May 30th, and I have this little emerald neckalace ! My favourite color has always been green.
Anyway this is a beautiful polish, I hope I’ll find something like it next time I go shopping!

  20. Lissette says:

Pretty color it’s my first time hearing of this polish. Next time I am at CVS definitely going to check them out. Cool idea for a birthday Mani. My birthday is in may too.

  21. I’ve tried a couple of Confetti polishes now and really liked both of them. If you are a fan of taupe at all, you should check out Moonstruck. I posted a swatch of it on my blog.

  22. Linda says:

How funny that I should be reading this post while painting my nails–with Confetti’s Fruit Smoothie! I don’t have many but my favorite by that company is Belle of the Ball. Beautiful lilac cream.

  23. JACQUELYN says:

I have Confetti MY FAVORITE MARTIAN. It is a yellow green with some sparkle;a grassy green.Perfect spring color. It does take 3 coats to get good coverage, but it dries quickly. The brush is good.
MY MFM pedi lasted 2 wks and still looked fabulous.

  24. CupK8 says:

I only own one Confetti polish (Pink Paradise), but it’s one of my favs. There’s no choice in my mind when I’m looking for a good French pink in my stash.

  25. Dana says:

Fell in love with Confetti’s Centerstage last summer. It’s a deep purple shade with tiny red and blue glitter, and with 2 coats, it has a metallic finish.

Confetti’s VaVaVoom is also great! It gives a rich, shiny finish with only one coat, and it’s somewhere between berry and hot pink. =)

  26. Gones says:

I just did my nails with “Belle of the Ball” from Confetti.. just wanted to say that out of the cheapy drugstore brands for under $2 that I have tried, Confetti was the best! I’m glad I got 4 of them before they stopped selling them! Do you ever wear Confetti polishes anymore?
